Parkinson’s disease (PD) is one of the chronic neurological diseases whose progression is slow and symptoms have similarities with other diseases. Early detection and diagnosis of PD is crucial to prescribe proper treatment for patient’s productive and healthy lives. The disease’s symptoms are characterized by tremors, muscle rigidity, slowness in movements, balancing along with other psychiatric symptoms. The dynamics of handwritten records served as one of the dominant mechanisms which support PD detection and assessment. Several machine learning methods have been investigated for the early detection of this disease. But, most of these handcrafted feature extraction techniques predominantly suffer from low performance accuracy issues. This cannot be tolerable for dealing with detection of such a chronic ailment. To this end, an efficient deep learning model is proposed which can assist to have early detection of Parkinson’s disease. The significant contribution of the proposed model is to select the most optimum features which have the effect of getting the high performance accuracies. The feature optimization is done through genetic algorithm wherein K -Nearest Neighbour technique. The proposed novel model results into detection accuracy higher than 95%, precision of 98%, area under curve of 0.90 with a loss of 0.12 only. The performance of proposed model is compared with some state of the art machine learning and deep learning based PD detection approaches to demonstrate the better detection ability of our model.

Symmetric encryption has been considered as one of the essential means of ensuring security of end to end communication. The robustness and strength of modern day block encryption systems are based on the cryptographic features of substitution-boxes which are used to inject confusion ability during substitution-phases. In this paper, as an alternative to random, chaos or algebraic based construction methods, we propose to present an efficient method for the generation of cryptographic highly nonlinear substitution-boxes. The nature-inspired particle swarm optimization is reconnoitered to develop proposed method wherein the initial population is generated through a simple but with rich dynamics chaotic Renyi map. The anticipated method is analyzed for different scenarios such as change in population size, number of iterations, and linear increase in inertial weight. The performance assessment of generated S-boxes under standard criterions corroborate that the proposed method has excellent cryptographic features and found grander than many recent optimization based S-box methods. Moreover, an image encryption application of proposed S-boxes is also suggested to determine their suitability and applicability for image based security applications.

Background: The reproductive age of women is particularly vulnerable to the effects of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). High levels of testosterone and other male hormones are frequent contributors to PCOS. It is believed that miscarriages and ovulation problems are majorly caused by PCOS. A recent study found that 31.3% of Asian women have been afflicted with PCOS. Healing women with life-threatening disorders associated with PCOS requires more research. In prior research, methods have involved autonomously classified PCOS using a number of different machine learning techniques. ML-based approaches involve hand-crafted feature extraction and suffer from low performance issues, which cannot be ignored for the accurate prediction and identification of PCOS. Objective: Hence, predicting PCOS using cutting-edge deep learning methods for automated feature engineering with better performance is the prime focus of this study. Methods: The proposed method suggests three lightweight (LSTM-based, CNN-based, and CNN-LSTM-based) deep learning models, incorporating SMOTE for dataset balancing to obtain a valid performance. Results: The proposed three models tend to offer an accuracy of 92.04%, 96.59%, and 94.31%, an ROC-AUC of 92.0%, 96.6%, and 94.3%, the number of parameters of 6689, 297, and 13285, and a training time of 67.27 s, 10.02 s, and 18.51 s, respectively. In addition, the DeLong test is also performed to compare AUCs to assess the statistical significance of all three models. Among all three models, the SMOTE + CNN models performs better in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, AUC, number of parameters, training time, DeLong’s p-value over the other. Conclusions: Moreover, a performance comparison is also carried out with other state-of-the-art PCOS detection studies and methods, which validates the better performance of the proposed model. Thus, the proposed model provides the greatest performance, which can lead to a reduction in the number of failed pregnancies and help in finding PCOS in the early stages.
