Despite the fact that countless IoT applications are arising frequently in various fields, such as green cities, net-zero decarbonization, healthcare systems, and smart vehicles, the smart grid is considered the most critical cyber–physical IoT application. With emerging technologies supporting the much-anticipated smart energy systems, particularly the smart grid, these smart systems will continue to profoundly transform our way of life and the environment. Energy systems have improved over the past ten years in terms of intelligence, efficiency, decentralization, and ICT usage. On the other hand, cyber threats and attacks against these systems have greatly expanded as a result of the enormous spread of sensors and smart IoT devices inside the energy sector as well as traditional power grids. In order to detect and mitigate these vulnerabilities while increasing the security of energy systems and power grids, a thorough investigation and in-depth research are highly required. This study offers a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art smart grid cybersecurity research. In this work, we primarily concentrate on examining the numerous threats and cyberattacks that have recently invaded the developing smart energy systems in general and smart grids in particular. This study begins by introducing smart grid architecture, it key components, and its security issues. Then, we present the spectrum of cyberattacks against energy systems while highlighting the most significant research studies that have been documented in the literature. The categorization of smart grid cyberattacks, while taking into account key information security characteristics, can help make it possible to provide organized and effective solutions for the present and potential attacks in smart grid applications. This cyberattack classification is covered thoroughly in this paper. This study also discusses the historical incidents against energy systems, which depicts how harsh and disastrous these attacks can go if not detected and mitigated. Finally, we provide a summary of the latest emerging future research trend and open research issues.

Skin cancer is a significant global health concern, and accurate and timely diagnosis is crucial for successful treatment. However, manual diagnosis can be challenging due to the subtle visual differences between benign and malignant lesions. This study introduces Skin-DeepNet, a novel deep learning-based framework designed for the automated early diagnosis and classification of skin cancer lesions from dermoscopy images. Skin-DeepNet incorporates a two-step pre-processing stage to enhance image contrast, followed by robust skin lesion segmentation using Mask R-CNN and GrabCut algorithm to achieve near-perfect segmentation accuracy (IOU up to 99.93%). Then a dual-feature extraction strategy is performed using a combination of a pre-trained high-resolution network (HRNet) model and attention block, which serve as feature descriptors. A deep belief networks (DBN) model is then trained on their outputs to capture high-level discriminative features. Finally, robust decision fusion strategies are employed to integrate the predictions of the proposed models using boosting and stacking to enhance overall Skin-DeepNet’s accuracy. The Skin-DeepNet’s performance has been validated on two challenging datasets: ISIC 2019 and HAM1000. The Skin-DeepNet system has outperformed the existing state-of-the-art systems by achieving an accuracy rate of 99.65% Precision of 99.51%, AUC of 99.94% on the ISIC 2019 dataset. Similarly, on the HAM1000 dataset, the Skin-DeepNet system demonstrated an accuracy rate, precision, and AUC of 100%, 99.92%, and 99.97%, respectively. These findings indicate that the developed Skin-DeepNet system can exhibit outstanding proficiency in accurately classifying skin lesions while aiding physicians in early diagnosis and treatment tasks in clinical settings.

Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mental health chatbots have evolved quickly as scalable means for psychological support, bringing novel solutions through natural language processing (NLP), mobile accessibility, and generative AI. This systematic literature review (SLR), following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, collates evidence from 25 published, peer-reviewed studies between 2020 and 2025 and reviews therapeutic techniques, cultural adaptation, technical design, system assessment, and ethics. Studies were extracted from seven academic databases, screened against specific inclusion criteria, and thematically analyzed. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) was the most common therapeutic model, featured in 15 systems, frequently being used jointly with journaling, mindfulness, and behavioral activation, followed by emotion-based approaches, which were featured in seven systems. Innovative techniques like GPT-based emotional processing, multimodal interaction (e.g., AR/VR), and LSTM-SVM classification models (greater than 94% accuracy) showed increased conversation flexibility but missed long-term clinical validation. Cultural adaptability was varied, and effective localization was seen in systems like XiaoE, okBot, and Luda Lee, while Western-oriented systems had restricted contextual adaptability. Accessibility and inclusivity are still major challenges, especially within low-resource settings, since digital literacy, support for multiple languages, and infrastructure deficits are still challenges. Ethical aspects—data privacy, explainability, and crisis plans—were under-evidenced for most deployments. This review is different from previous ones since it focuses on cultural adaptability, ethics, and hybrid public health incorporation and proposes a comprehensive approach for deploying AI mental health chatbots safely, effectively, and inclusively. Central to this review, symmetry is emphasized as a fundamental idea incorporated into frameworks for cultural adaptation, decision-making processes, and therapeutic structures. In particular, symmetry ensures equal cultural responsiveness, balanced user–chatbot interactions, and ethically aligned AI systems, all of which enhance the efficacy and dependability of mental health services. Recognizing these benefits, the review further underscores the necessity for more rigorous academic research into the development, deployment, and evaluation of mental health chatbots and apps, particularly to address cultural sensitivity, ethical accountability, and long-term clinical outcomes.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia, marked by cognitive decline and memory loss. Recently, machine learning and deep learning techniques have introduced promising solutions for improving AD detection through MRI, especially in settings where specialists may not be readily available. These techniques offer the potential to assist general practitioners and non-specialists in busy clinical environments. However, the ‘black box’ nature of many AI techniques makes it challenging for non-expert physicians to fully trust their diagnostic accuracy. In this review, we critically evaluate current explainable AI (XAI) methods applied to AD detection and highlight their limitations. In addition, a new interpretability framework, called “Feature-Augmented”, was theoretically designed to improve model interpretability. This approach remains underexplored, primarily due to the scarcity of explainable AD-specific datasets. Furthermore, we underscore the importance of AI models being accurate and explainable, which enhance diagnostic confidence and patient care outcomes.

Complex networks (CNs) have gained much attention in recent years due to their importance and popularity. The rapid growth in the size of CNs leads to more difficulties in the analysis of CNs tasks. Community Detection (CD) is an important multidisciplinary research area where many machine/deep learning-based methods have been applied to map CNs into a low-dimensional representation for extracting information similarity among members of CNs. Currently, Deep Learning (DL) is one of the promising methods to extract knowledge and learn information from high dimensional space and represent it in low dimensional space. However, designing an accurate and efficient DL-based CD method especially when dealing with large CNs is always an on-going research endeavor to pursue. Meta-Heuristic (MH) algorithms have shown their potentials in improving DL models in terms of solution quality and computational cost. In addition, parallel computing is a feasible solution for building efficient DL models. The algorithmic principle of MH is parallel in nature; however, its computation framework in DL training that is reported in the literature is not really implemented in a parallel computing setup. In this paper, we present a systematic review of CD in CNs from conventional machine learning to DL methods and point out the gap of applying DL-based CD methods in large CNs. In addition, the relevant studies on DL with parallel and MH approaches are reviewed and their implications on DL models are highlighted to prospect effective solutions to overcome the challenges of DL-based CD methods. We also point out research challenges in the field of CD and suggest possible future research directions.
