In the field of remote sensing (RS), change detection (CD) methods are critical for analyzing the quality of images shot over various geographical areas, particularly for high-resolution images. However, there are some shortcomings of the widely used Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Transformers-based CD methods. The former is limited by its insufficient long-range modeling capabilities, while the latter is hampered by its computational complexity. Additionally, the commonly used information-fusion methods for pre- and post-change images often lead to information loss or redundancy, resulting in inaccurate edge detection. To address these issues, we propose an Iterative Mamba Diffusion Change Detection (IMDCD) approach to iteratively integrate various pieces of information and efficiently produce fine-grained CD maps. Specifically, the Swin-Mamba-Encoder (SME) within Mamba-CD (MCD) is employed as a semantic feature extractor, capable of modeling long-range relationships with linear computability. Moreover, we introduce the Variable State Space CD (VSS-CD) module, which extracts abundant CD features by training the matrix parameters within the designed State Space Change Detection (SS-CD). The computed high-dimensional CD feature is integrated into the noise predictor using a novel Global Hybrid Attention Transformer (GHAT) while low-dimensional CD features are utilized to calibrate prior CD results at each iterative step, progressively refining the generated outcomes. IMDCD exhibits a high performance across multiple datasets such as the CDD, WHU, LEVIR, and OSCD, marking a significant advancement in the methodologies within the CD field of RS. The code for this work is available on GitHub.

Daily behavioral analysis of group-housed pigs provides critical insights into early warning systems for pig health issues and animal welfare in smart pig farming. In this study, our main objective was to develop an automated method for monitoring and analyzing the behavior of group-reared pigs to detect health problems and improve animal welfare promptly. We have developed the method named Pig-ByteTrack. Our approach addresses target detection, Multi-Object Tracking (MOT), and behavioral time computation for each pig. The YOLOX-X detection model is employed for pig detection and behavior recognition, followed by Pig-ByteTrack for tracking behavioral information. In 1 min videos, the Pig-ByteTrack algorithm achieved Higher Order Tracking Accuracy (HOTA) of 72.9%, Multi-Object Tracking Accuracy (MOTA) of 91.7%, identification F1 Score (IDF1) of 89.0%, and ID switches (IDs) of 41. Compared with ByteTrack and TransTrack, the Pig-ByteTrack achieved significant improvements in HOTA, IDF1, MOTA, and IDs. In 10 min videos, the Pig-ByteTrack achieved the results with 59.3% of HOTA, 89.6% of MOTA, 53.0% of IDF1, and 198 of IDs, respectively. Experiments on video datasets demonstrate the method’s efficacy in behavior recognition and tracking, offering technical support for health and welfare monitoring of pig herds.

Accurate and efficient detection and segmentation of the urine formed element plays a vital role in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of many diseases, such as urinary system diseases, kidney diseases, and other diseases. However, artificial microscopy is subjective, and time- consuming. The mainstream detection and instance segmentation algorithms lack adequate accuracy and speed for the urine formed element due to small and dense targets. Therefore, this study proposes a quick one-stage urine formed element instance segmentation model based on YOLOv5n. The approach first employs a backbone architecture to extract features named shallow graphical features and semantic features from urine cells. Next, the neck network combines shallow graphical features with different deep semantic features, obtaining multi-scale, and multi-level features. Finally, according to these multi-level features, the head network of YOLOv5n integrates a small FCN network into the YOLOv5 detector. It obtains the location, classification, and segmentation results of the targets. To validate the superiority of this approach in terms of speed and accuracy, a special urine formed element dataset including 500 images was created. Experimental results show that the YOLOv5n method achieves a Mean Average Precision (mAP) at intersection over the union threshold of 0.5 (mAP50) with 91.8%, and Frames Per Second (FPS) of 63.3. Compared to Mask R-CNN and YOLOv8, its FPS increased by 62.6 and 60.9, respectively, resulting in nearly a hundred-fold speedup, and its mAP50 also increased by 3.6 and 1.4% points in accuracy, respectively. Additionally, the YOLOv5n obtains a superior balance of accuracy and speed in comparisons with SOLOv2, BoxInst, and ConvNeXt V2. This study developed a new automated analysis of urinary particles based on deep learning, and this method is expected to be used for the automated analysis and detection of the urine formed element. The experimental results also demonstrate that YOLOv5n can achieve more accurate and faster instance segmentation of urine formed element, providing technical support for clinical disease diagnosis.

Pig counting is an essential activity in the administration of pig farming. Currently, manual counting is inefficient, costly, and unsuitable for systematic analysis. However, research on dynamic pig counting encounters challenges, including inadequate detection accuracy stemming from crowding, occlusion, deformation, and low-light conditions. Target tracking issues characterized by poor accuracy, frequent identity confusion, and false positive trajectories ultimately lead to diminished accuracy in the final counting outcomes. Given these existing limitations, this paper proposes an enhanced algorithm based on the YOLOv8n+Deep SORT model. The ELA attention mechanism, GSConv, and VoVGSCSP lightweight convolution modules are introduced in YOLOv8n, which improve detection accuracy and speed for pig target recognition. Additionally, Deep SORT is enhanced by integrating the DenseNet feature extraction network and CIoU matching algorithm, improving the accuracy and stability of target tracking. Experimental results indicate that the improved Deep SORT-P pig tracking algorithm attains MOTA and MOTP values of 89.2% and 90.4%, respectively, reflecting improvements of 4.2% and 1.7%, while IDSW is diminished by 25.5%. Finally, counting experiments were performed on videos of pigs traversing the farm passage using both the original and improved algorithms. The improved YOLOv8n-EGV+Deep SORT-P algorithm achieved a counting accuracy of 92.1%, reflecting a 17.5% improvement over the original algorithm. Meanwhile, the improved algorithm presented in this study successfully attained stable dynamic pig counting in practical environments, offering valuable data and references for research on dynamic pig counting.

Automatic detection and tracking of pig behaviors through video surveillance remain challenges due to farm demanding conditions, e.g., illumination conditions and occlusion of one pig from another. The main goal of this study is to develop a deep learning method based on the improved YOLOv5s and DeepSORT to detect and track the behaviors of pigs, which has the advantages of stability and high accuracy. Firstly, YOLOv5s with the attention mechanism is used for pig detection and behavior recognition. To deal with the missed detection and false detection due to occlusion and overlapping between pigs and pigs, the improved YOLOv5s adopts the Shape-IoU to optimize the bounding box regression loss function, which improves the robustness of the model. Then, the improved DeepSORT model is proposed to track each pig behaviors including eat, stand, lie and attack four behavior types. Finally, we conduct a comparison test under different lighting and density conditions for pig detection and behavior tracking on special dataset. Experimental results show that the mAP@0.5% of improved YOLOv5s algorithm increases from 92.7% to 99.3%, which means 6.6% accuracy improvement compared with the YOLOv5s model. In terms of tracking, the values of MOTA and MOTP in all test videos are 94.5% and 94.9% respectively. These experiments demonstrate that the improved YOLOv5s and DeepSORT achieves high accuracy for both pig detection and behavior tracking. The proposed approach provides scalable technical support for contactless automatic pig monitoring.

Cell detection-tracking tasks are vital for biomedical image analysis with potential applications in clinical diagnosis and treatment. However, it poses challenges such as ambiguous boundaries and complex backgrounds in microscopic video sequences, leading to missed detection, false detection, and loss of tracking. Therefore, we propose an enhanced multiple object tracking algorithm IEGS-YOLO + BoT-SORT, named IEGS-BoT, to address these issues. Firstly, the IEGS-YOLO detector is developed for cell detection tasks. It uses the iEMA module, which effectively combines the global information to enhance the local information. Then, we replace the traditional convolutional network in the neck of the YOLO11n with GSConv to reduce the computational complexity while maintaining accuracy. Finally, the BoT-SORT tracker is selected to enhance the accuracy of bounding box positioning through camera motion compensation and Kalman filter. We conduct experiments on the CTMC dataset, and the results show that in the detection phase, the map50 (mean Average Precision) and map50–95 values are 73.2% and 32.6%, outperforming the YOLO11n detector by 1.1% and 0.6%, respectively. In the tracking phase, using the IEGS-BoT method, the multiple objects tracking accuracy (MOTA), higher order tracking accuracy (HOTA), and identification F1 (IDF1) reach 53.97%, 51.30%, and 67.52%, respectively. Compared with the base BoT-SORT, the proposed method achieves improvements of 1.19%, 0.23%, and 1.29% in MOTA, HOTA, and IDF1, respectively. ID switch (IDSW) decreases from 1170 to 894, which demonstrates significant mitigation of identity confusion. This approach effectively addresses the challenges posed by object loss and identity switching in cell tracking, providing a more reliable solution for medical image analysis.
