In the current study, new benzimidazole-based 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives have been synthesized and characterized by NMR, IR, MS, and elemental analysis. The final compounds were screened for cytotoxicity against MDA-MB-231, SKOV3, and A549 cell lines and EGFR for inhibitory activities. Compounds 10 and 13 were found to be the most active against all the tested cell lines, comparable to doxorubicin, and exhibited significant inhibition on EGFR kinase, with IC50 0.33 and 0.38 μM, respectively, comparable to erlotinib (IC50 0.39 μM). Furthermore, these two compounds effectively suppressed cell cycle progression and induced cell apoptosis in MDA-MB-231, SKOV3, and A549 cell lines. The docking studies revealed that these compounds showed interactions similar to erlotinib at the EGFR site. It can be concluded that the synthesized molecules effectively inhibit EGFR, can arrest the cell cycle, and may trigger apoptosis and therefore, could be used as lead molecules in the development of new anticancer agents targeting EGFR kinase.

In this article, series of semicarbazide, thiosemicarbazide, urea and thiourea derivatives have been successfully prepared via an easy synthetic strategy. The chemical structure of the prepared compounds have been confirmed based upon spectral and elemental data. The compounds showed excellent insecticidal activity against Spodoptera littoralis which causes a harmful damage to the cotton crop which represent a principal figure in economics of North Africa countries. Among all the prepared compounds, methyl-4-{[(4-chlorobenzoyl)carbamothioyl] amino}benzoate 7 showed the highest insecticidal activity against S. littoralis, with LC50 values of 9.882 for 2nd instar larvae & 102.66 for 4th instar larvae, respectively. An environmentally friendly non-thermal DC plasma reduction route was adopted to reduce Ag+ ions at the plasma–liquid interface into silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) under statistically optimized conditions for biological and photocatalytic applications. The efficiency and reactivity of AgNPs were improved by statistically optimizing the reaction parameters with a Box–Behnken Design (BBD). The size of the AgNPs was chosen as a statistical response parameter, while the concentration of the stabilizer, the concentration of the silver salt, and the plasma reaction time were chosen as independent factors. The optimized parameters for the plasma production of AgNPs were estimated using a response surface methodology and a significant model p < 0.05. The AgNPs, prepared under optimized conditions, were characterized and then tested for their antibacterial, antioxidant, and photocatalytic potentials. The optimal conditions for these three activities were 3 mM of stabilizing agent, 5 mM of AgNO3, and 30 min of reaction time. Having particles size of 19 to 37 nm under optimized conditions, the AgNPs revealed a 82.3% degradation of methyl orange dye under UV light irradiation. The antibacterial response of the optimized AgNPs against S. aureus and E. coli strains revealed inhabitation zones of 15 mm and 12 mm, respectively, which demonstrate an antioxidant activity of 81.2%.

Polymers synthesized with end-of-life consideration allow for recovery and reprocessing. “Living-anionic polymerization (LAP)” and hydrosilylation reaction were utilized to synthesize hair-end furan functionalized hairy nanoparticles (HNPs) with a hard polystyrene (PS) core and soft polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) hairs via a one-pot approach. The synthesis was carried out by first preparing the living core through crosslinking styrene with divinylbenzene using sec-butyl lithium, followed by the addition of the hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane (D3) monomer to the living core. The living polymer was terminated by dimethylchlorosilane to obtain the HNPs with Si-H functional end groups. The furan functionalization was carried out by the hydrosilylation reaction between the Si-H of the functionalized HNP and 2-vinyl furan. Additionally, furan functionalized polystyrene (PS) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) were also synthesized by LAP. 1H NMR and ATR-IR spectra confirmed the successful synthesis of the target polymers. Differential scanning calorimetry showed two glass transition temperatures indicative of a polydimethylsiloxane soft phase and a polystyrene hard phase, suggesting that the HNPs are microphase separated. The furan functionalized HNPs form thermo-reversible networks upon crosslinking with bismaleimide (BMI) via a Diels−Alder coupling reaction. The kinetics of the forward Diels–Alder reaction between the functionalized polymer and BMI were studied at three different temperatures: 50 °C, 60 °C, and 70 °C by UV–Vis spectroscopy. The activation energy for the furan functionalized HNPs reaction with the bismaleimide was lower compared to the furan functionalized polystyrene and polydimethylsiloxane linear polymers. The crosslinked polymer network formed from the Diels−Alder forward reaction dissociates at around 140–154 °C, and the HNPs are recovered. The recovered HNPs can be re-crosslinked at 50 °C. The results suggest that furan functionalized HNPs are promising building blocks for preparing thermo-reversible elastomeric networks.
