In this study, we explore and assess the nature of the double guests and host roles of tourism migrant workers (TMWs), and their effects on the TWSs' adjusted person-place relationships and local identities by employing a systematic modeling approach in the context of the TMWs working in the intangible cultural tourism (ICH) businesses. The research site is fittingly set in Suzhou of east China, a destination whose rich historical and cultural heritages are now co-expressed and co-presented by a migrant workforce that has already outsized the locals. Research findings have shown that the socio-cultural adjustments availed by working in the ICH tourism businesses positively influence the local identities of TMWs, as mediated by their place attachment. This study advances a theoretical understanding of the mechanism of migrant integration in the particular context of cultural tourism development, and shows how tourism can contribute towards healthy, rather than stigmatizing, dialogues pertaining to migrant integration in the society at large.

While brand extensions have been widely practiced in contemporary business marketing and management, empirical rather than hypothetical examinations of extended branding in the hospitality sector are still scant. This study responds to current research gap by comprehensively modeling and assessing the effectiveness of brand extensions of a high-end automobile brand into full scale restaurant services. Brand fit is constructed as the mediator between the extended brand and the high-end parent brand. Data were gathered from 258 patrons at one ‘Mercedes me’ restaurant in east China. Research findings from Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) showed that brand quality, brand fit, brand satisfaction and brand loyalty were positively related to each other for the restaurant brand of the high-end auto maker. The interrelationship between brand quality and brand satisfaction of the extended brand was significantly mediated by its brand fit with the parent high-end auto brand modeling. This study contributes to knowledge enrichment on the mechanism of brand extensions and their effects on the equities of both the extended brand and the parent brand in the hospitality sector.

Compulsory waste sorting has been in practice in pilot cities in China and is expected to be fully implemented in urban areas of the country by 2025. However, the learning of compulsory waste sorting by non-local festival attendees in a semi-free choice festival context and the roles of the relevant factors require further investigation. In particular, for the non-local attendees, the festival context avails both the opportunity and occasion for effective learning of compulsory waste sorting, a unique research window worth further exploration. Employing a systematic modeling approach to comprehensively investigate the interrelationships among the identified significant factors, this study explores and examines the mechanism of this learning process with a hierarchy of positive relationships between the host communications, learning outcomes and behavioral intentions of the festival attendees concerning compulsory waste sorting. The research subject of this study was a branded forest music festival held in a waste-sorting pilot city in East China, which has long been pivoting to the promotion of environmental-friendly values. The objective measurement of the learning outcomes integrated by this study accentuate the effectiveness of the proposed structural model. Our research findings confirmed all of the hypothesized relationships and established positive learning outcomes for the festival attendees on waste sorting as instructed by the festival hosts. The role of the festival attendees’ environmental attitudes in mediating their learning outcomes was corroborated. This study advances the understanding of the experiential learning processes of pro-environment and sustainability knowledge and behavior in festival contexts, areas that require future research attention with growing reflections on and awareness of environmental protection and sustainable development.

![][1] Giant panda Bei Bei spends a final day in Washington, D.C., before departing for China. PHOTO: XINHUA/ALAMY STOCK PHOTO In November, 2019, 4-year-old panda Bei Bei, born on American soil to parents on loan from China, departed the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. ([ 1 ][2]). China's loan arrangements specify that all panda cubs born abroad are the property of China and must be sent back to China for scientific and reproduction purposes ([ 2 ][3]). The 10-year loan agreements, which cost the host country a rental fee of US$1 million, have been in place since the mid-1980s and currently cover about 50 pandas in captivity outside China ([ 3 ][4]). However, the current terms of the agreements are not in the best interests of the pandas or panda research. When the loans were originally created in 1982, China's panda population, then at about 1100 individuals ([ 4 ][5]), was dwindling. At that time, it was important to augment the population with new panda cubs. However, the population has since grown, recently reaching 2300 individuals ([ 5 ][6]). Because the local panda gene pool is now large enough to enable breeding, it is no longer necessary to send all panda cubs back to China. If returned panda cubs were released to their original wild habitat in China and scientifically monitored remotely, then their ecological value might justify uprooting them from their place of birth. However, upon their return to China, the cubs remain in captivity ([ 6 ][7]). Given the challenges that the repatriated cubs face, including difficult adjustments to a new climate, feeding regimen, and breeding culture ([ 7 ][8]–[ 9 ][9]), returning them to China may not be to their benefit. The current loan arrangements should be updated to ensure that they are furthering the goals of species protection, scientific research, and cultural exchanges. The length of the loan period should be more flexible, with extensions available. Cubs should be returned to China only if it is in their best interest. Overseas hosts should have the opportunity to conduct observation and breeding projects for cubs born on their soil. This would require effective cooperation between Chinese panda researchers and their overseas counterparts at the host zoos. The financial revenue collected through the loans—which sometimes seems to serve as a commercial benefit for Chinese zoo and attractions developers ([ 10 ][10]) rather than a self-sustaining investment in species conservation—should be better monitored and allocated instead to support and research programs for the returned pandas. Finally, China's wildlife authorities should develop a more supportive regulatory framework of panda protection and research at a global scale, as well as promote international cooperation and long-term eco-cultural exchanges through the loan arrangements. 1. This letter is a response to the article in this journal by Huang et al. (2016), which examined the carbon emission flow from self-driving tours and how it is spatially related with scenic spots. Huang et al. used spatial distribution and flow models and a carbon coefficient taken from the existing literature to investigate the extent and intensity of carbon emissions of self-driving tours in a Chinese province, with results revealing considerable regional imbalances in carbon emissions overall but little discrepancy among different scenic spots. This study had clear research significance in employing spatial-based models to analyze carbon footprints of an important sector of the service industry; however, the current letter raises some concerns over potential flaws in the certain simplified proxies employed in the spatial formulas by Huang et al., which, if unaddressed, may greatly compromise the validity and reliability of the study’s findings. Some alternative cross-sectional models are also suggested to better identify, capture and evaluate the essential variables integral to the research objectives of this paper.

This research note examines the factors driving the phenomenon of the ‘jobbymoon’, the practice of undertaking travel between jobs, which has become increasingly popular in recent years. Spawned by the growing transience of job stability, particularly among the millennium generation, the jobbymoon pertinently embodies the blurred if not entangled lines between work and leisure, and therefore is rich in its research implications. Focus group interviews were conducted to identify and evaluate the factors motivating peoples to take jobbymoons. Interviews from focus groups yielded six main categories of motivators, thereby preliminarily revealing the unique relationship between work and leisure as embodied in the jobbymoon. This note claims its research significance in identifying and investigating a special emerging byproduct of work-leisure interactions in the contemporary society, and its findings of the key motivators of the jobbymoon can serve as practical references for product development and marketing efforts for this niche leisure segment.

This study employed a value engineering approach to identify and evaluate the factors integral to the efficiency of operation and management of the budget hotel sector in China. A combination of qualitative panel judgments and quantitative statistics was applied in the analysis of a Chinese budget brand which is publicly listed in the USA. Findings reveal that out of the six categories of costs identified, the two items of standard room cost and energy & maintenance achieved the ideal value, while lease rental and human resources are overvalued, with franchise fee and refurbishment cost being undervalued. The implication for hotel investors as well as operators is that for the budget sector to fully realize its potential, a delicate balance needs to be obtained so that resources can be more evenly distributed and customer experiences enriched.
