It is well documented that whole body-vibration training has effects on muscle strength and flexibility, blood circulation, decreases pain perception and strengthens bone and tendon. Although whole body-vibration has benefits in athletes’ flexibility, we are not sure what its actual effects are in artistic gymnastics (since they already have stunning flexibility). Hence, the aim of this study was to analyse the studies on whole-body vibration in artistic gymnastics and to present the effects on flexibility. The search and analysis were carried out in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. The databases search (PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, EBSCOhost and Science Direct) yielded 18,057 potential studies. By the given inclusion criteria (studies from 2005 to 2022; full-text published in English; the study included male and female gymnasts as samples, and that participants were tested for evaluation of flexibility by whole-body vibration method), a total of 9 full-text studies were included, with a total of 210 participants, both male and female. As far as the measured flexibility tests conducted, front split, sit and reach and bridge were evaluated, while obtained results were 9.1–39.1%, 2.79–6.7%, 6.43–7.45%, respectively. All studies have conducted same vibration frequency (30 Hz) with same amplitude of displacements (2 mm), except for the one study who did not show the information of implemented amplitude. After analysing the obtained results, it can be concluded that the usage of whole-body vibration platform shows flexibility improvements in artistic gymnasts, both male and female. In addition, a combination of whole-body vibration and traditional static stretching may enhance the flexibility in artistic gymnasts. However, these results should be taken with caution. Since this review did not reveal the optimal vibrational protocol, it is necessary to invest time during the implementation of various vibrational experimental protocols, so future research is required.

Background and Objectives: The use of wearable fitness technology is a trend nowadays and has significant potential in promoting an active lifestyle among long-term care (LTC) residents. The objectives of this observational study were to examine the use of fitness trackers and smartwatches for monitoring physical activity and to analyze the relationship between the use of these technological solutions and the sociodemographic characteristics of LTC residents during the COVID-19 lockdown. Materials and Methods: Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 198 LTC residents stationed in eleven organizational units that provide long-term accommodation services for older adults in the city of Zagreb in Croatia. LTC residents aged 65 and older who receive the 1st level of accommodation services in the social care system according to their functional ability and health status were included in this study. Results: During the COVID-19 lockdown, 19.19% of LTC residents used wearable activity trackers. Gender (p = 0.0411) and education level (p = 0.0485) were recognized as significant sociodemographic predictors regarding the use of fitness trackers and smartwatches for monitoring physical activity. An odds ratio for gender of 0.454 (95% CI: 0.213–0.969) indicates that women have a 54.6% lower chance of using fitness trackers and smartwatches then men. The odds ratio for the education effects of 0.050 (95% CI: 0.003–0.980) demonstrates that there is a 95% lower chance of using fitness trackers and smartwatches for individuals with only elementary education as opposed to university graduates. Conclusions: The sociodemographic differences of LTC residents regarding the use of fitness trackers and smartwatches require further research, but they are also an incentive for the implementation of these technological solutions to protect the health of older adults.

Introduction: Non-unions are fractures that do not heal properly, resulting in a false joint formation at the fracture site. This condition leads to major health issues and imposes a burden on national healthcare systems. The etiology of non-unions is still not fully understood; therefore, we aimed to identify potential systemic factors that may contribute to their formation. Materials and methods: We conducted a cross-sectional concomitant proteomic and metabolomic pilot study of blood plasma in patients with non-unions (N = 11) and compared them with patients with bone fracture in the normal active healing phase (N = 12). Results: We found five significantly upregulated proteins in the non-union group: immunoglobulin heavy variable 3–74, immunoglobulin lambda variable 2–18, low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 4, zinc-alpha-2-glycoprotein, and serum amyloid A-1 protein; and we found one downregulated protein: cystatin-C. The metabolomic study found differences in alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism pathways between two groups. Conclusions: The combined results of proteomic and metabolomic analyses suggest that the dysregulation of lipid metabolism may contribute to non-union formation.

Background and Study Aim. Since its inception in 1988, the EUROFIT database network has expanded significantly. This expansion has facilitated the use of standardized test batteries to evaluate physical fitness across diverse groups. This study therefore aimed to determine possible differences in EUROFIT scores between rural and urban male children in Kosovo aged 7 to 11 years and to suggest the underlying factors besides the differences. Material and Methods. The study involved 500 schoolchildren from Kosovo, both rural and urban, aged between 7 and 11 years. They were equally distributed within the total sample. Measurements were conducted using EUROFIT and anthropometric tests. The results were subsequently analyzed and compared using a Student's t-test. Results. The data revealed that urban children have a better starting point, benefiting from greater access to organized physical activities. Their diets, while less healthy, may enhance physical power. The rural environment fosters healthier growth and skill development in boys, particularly before and during the onset of puberty. Conclusions. Urban children should maintain their regular organized physical activities throughout the school period. This will help them match their rural peers in terms of motor and functional abilities. However, morphological traits are becoming more similar between these groups as they enter the prepubertal stage. Future studies should investigate potential differences in female samples. They should also extend to other countries and regions to provide a broader perspective.
