My name is Dr. Kevin Wafula Nyongesa. I have a BSc in Wood Science and Technology from Moi University in Kenya, an MSc degree in Mountain Forestry and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), Austria, which I obtained in 2019. I am currently a part-time lecturer in the Department of Geography at Egerton University, Kenya. I have research interests in applying models to simulate wildfire behavior, spatial software (ArcGIS, QGIS), spatial analysis using GIS and remote sensing data, participatory forest management and Integrated Fire Management (IFM). I worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the FIRE-RES project “Innovative technologies & socio-ecological-economic solutions for fire resilient territories in Europe” from March 2022 to March 2023 in the Forest Research Centre (FRC) of the School of Agriculture in the University of Lisbon, Portugal. In addition, I worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the NOBEL project “Novel business models to sustainably supply forest ecosystem services in Europe” from March 2018 to August 2020 at the Institute of Silviculture (WALDBAU) in BOKU. I also worked as a Project Manager in the FIREMAPS project Developing Fire Danger Maps for Identifying Fire Hot Spots and Improving Fire Management in Mount Kenya Forest from May 2015 to May 2018 in the Department of Natural Resources at Egerton University, Kenya. I am also a registered member of IUFRO.
