Maria Francesca Piacentini, a Professor at the University of Rome “Foro Italico”, received a PhD in Human Physiology from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium and a Master’s degree from the University of California Berkeley in the USA. Her main research domain is endurance and ultra-endurance sports, in particular, monitoring training in the prevention of overtraining or non-functional overreaching, pacing strategies, and central fatigue. She collaborates with the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, with which she developed an online monitoring system to prevent overtraining in athletes, and she is also Chair of the Scientific Board of the European College of Sports Science and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Swimming Federation.
