A new algorithm called maximum correntropy unscented Kalman filter (MCUKF) is proposed and applied to relative state estimation in space communication networks. As is well known, the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) provides an efficient tool to solve the non-linear state estimate problem. However, the UKF usually plays well in Gaussian noises. Its performance may deteriorate substantially in the presence of non-Gaussian noises, especially when the measurements are disturbed by some heavy-tailed impulsive noises. By making use of the maximum correntropy criterion (MCC), the proposed algorithm can enhance the robustness of UKF against impulsive noises. In the MCUKF, the unscented transformation (UT) is applied to obtain a predicted state estimation and covariance matrix, and a nonlinear regression method with the MCC cost is then used to reformulate the measurement information. Finally, the UT is adopted to the measurement equation to obtain the filter state and covariance matrix. Illustrative examples demonstrate the superior performance of the new algorithm.
Correntropy has been proved to be effective in eliminating the adverse effects of impulsive noises in adaptive filtering. However, correntropy is not desirable when the error between the two random variables is asymmetrically distributed around zero. To address this problem, asymmetric correntropy using an asymmetric Gaussian function as the kernel function was proposed. However, an asymmetric Gaussian function is not always the best choice and can be further expanded. In this paper, we propose a robust adaptive filtering based on a more flexible definition of asymmetric correntropy, which is called generalized asymmetric correntropy that adopts a generalized asymmetric Gaussian density (GAGD) function as the kernel. With the shape parameter properly selected, the generalized asymmetric correntropy may get better performance than the original asymmetric correntropy. The steady-state performance of the adaptive filter based on the generalized maximum asymmetric correntropy criterion (GMACC) is theoretically studied and verified by simulation experiments. The asymmetric characteristics of queue delay in satellite networks is analyzed and described, and the proposed algorithm is used to predict network delay, which is essential in space telemetry. Simulation results demonstrate the desirable performance of the new algorithm.
This paper provides a novel Newtonian-type optimization method for robust adaptive filtering inspired by information theory learning. With the traditional minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion replaced by criteria like the maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) or generalized maximum correntropy criterion (GMCC), adaptive filters assign less emphasis on the outlier data, thus become more robust against impulsive noises. The optimization methods adopted in current MCC-based LMS-type and RLS-type adaptive filters are gradient descent method and fixed point iteration, respectively. However, in this paper, a Newtonian-type method is introduced as a novel method for enhancing the existing body of knowledge of MCC-based adaptive filtering and providing a fast convergence rate. Theoretical analysis of the steady-state performance of the algorithm is carried out and verified by simulations. The experimental results show that, compared to the conventional MCC adaptive filter, the MCC-based Newtonian-type method converges faster and still maintains a good steady-state performance under impulsive noise. The practicability of the algorithm is also verified in the experiment of acoustic echo cancellation.
Spectrum sensing is the most important task in cognitive radio (CR). In this paper, a new robust distributed spectrum sensing approach, called diffusion maximum correntropy criterion (DMCC)-based robust spectrum sensing, is proposed for CR in the presence of non-Gaussian noise or impulsive noise. The proposed distributed scheme, which does not need any central processing unit, is characterized by an adaptive diffusion model. The maximum correntropy criterion, which is insensitive to impulsive interference, is introduced to deal with the effect of non-Gaussian noise. Simulation results show that the DMCC-based spectrum sensing algorithm has an excellent robust property with respect to non-Gaussian noise. It is also observed that the new method displays a considerably better detection performance than its predecessor (i.e., diffusion least mean square (DLMS)) in impulsive noise. Moreover, the mean and variance convergence analysis of the proposed algorithm are also carried out.

By introducing the concept of dual connectivity (DC), joint user association and resource allocation for heterogeneous networks (HetNets) with backhaul constraint have been investigated. However, co-channel scenario is rarely considered in DC-enabled HetNets due to inter-tier interference. To solve this issue, enhanced intercell interference coordination (eICIC) via almost blank subframe (ABS) is introduced into DC-enabled HetNets with backhaul constraint. The objective is to improve overall system throughout while providing quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees on user’s rate. First, the joint DC-enabled user association and resource allocation problem is formulated as an mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem. Then, by linearizing the products of the variables, the original problem is reformulated into a linear problem. Last, a low-complexity heuristic method to achieve the near-optimal solution is proposed. Also, the numerical results show the superiority of our algorithm.
The energy consumption management of small base stations (SBSs) in wireless caching networks with dense deployment of SBSs is an urgent problem to be solved. This paper jointly optimizes the SBS state control and user association problems in caching networks to reduce network energy consumption while taking into account the average service latency of the network to ensure user experience. First, a new definition of three-state SBSs in caching networks is proposed based on their ability to keep content cache updated. Then, a relaxed threshold setting method is designed and the SBS traffic prediction is used to obtain the initial state information of SBSs in the next period. In order to eliminate the impact on the accessing users when the switched-off base station (BS) wakes up, a SBS state asynchronous switching mechanism is proposed to ensure that the users who switch to the waking SBS can carry out communication services normally, and a user association strategy is constructed with the SBS load as the optimization target. Finally, a joint optimization model of user association and SBS state control (SSC-UA) is constructed to admit and correct the initial state of SBSs to maximize the system gain and obtain the final state strategy for each SBS in the next period. The simulation results show that the proposed SSC-UA algorithm can effectively improve the energy efficiency and reduce the network service delay at the same time.
