This study aimed to examine the mediating effect of social media addiction on the relationship between leisure boredom and loneliness. A total of 330 high school students in Istanbul, 212 male (64.2%) and 118 female (35.8%), participated in the study voluntarily. In the study, the "Leisure Boredom Scale" developed by Iso-Ahola and Weissinger (1990) to measure participants' perceptions of boredom in their leisure, the "UCLA Loneliness Scale" developed by Peplau and Cutrona (1980) to measure loneliness level, and the "Social Media Addiction scale for Adolescents" developed by Eijnden, Lemmens and Valkenburg (2016) to measure the social media addiction level, were used as data collection tools. The convenience sampling method, which is one of the random sampling methods, was used in the sample selection and the face-to-face survey technique was preferred. In the analysis of the obtained data, descriptive statistics via the SPSS package program, Pearson Correlation, and regression analysis of the indirect impact approach based on the Bootstrap method via PROCESS v3.5 macro were performed. As a result, it was observed that leisure boredom had statistically significant effects on social media addiction and loneliness, and social media addiction on loneliness. Besides, regarding the main aim of the research, it was determined that social media addiction had a mediating effect on the relationship between leisure boredom and loneliness. Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of children’s yoga practices on attention levels and frontal EEG theta/beta power ratios in young athletes. Methods: This research was conducted using a triple regulation design from mixed research methods. The participants were 20 female midi volleyball players (Mean = 11.45; SD = 0.49) with 3 years of volleyball experience from Düzce Volleyball Sports Club. They were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in 24 sessions of children’s yoga, each lasting 40 minutes, at least 3 days per week for 8 weeks, including asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing) techniques designed for children. The control group did not receive any intervention. Quantitative data were collected using the d2 attention test and Nexus 10 Mk II EEG device, while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. Two-way repeated measures ANOVA was applied to the quantitative data, and thematic analysis was used for the qualitative data. Results: The d2 attention test results indicated significant improvements in TN-E scores for the experimental group compared to the control group (Wilks’ λ = 0.226, F(1,18) = 61.74, p < 0.05). EEG analysis showed significant effects of yoga on frontal theta/beta power ratios: Fz (Wilks’ λ = 0.987, F(1,18) = 19.32, p < 0.05, η2 = 0.518), F7 (Wilks’ λ = 0.692, F(1,18) = 8.01, p < 0.05, η2 = 0.308), and F8 (Wilks’ λ = 0.605, F(1,18) = 11.74, p < 0.05, η2 = 0.395). Qualitative findings indicated that coaches observed higher focus and better responses to strategies among athletes in the yoga group.Discussion: These findings suggest that children’s yoga practices have a significant impact on improving attention levels and frontal EEG theta/beta ratios, contributing to enhanced neurophysiological indicators of attention. Coaches also reported improvements in concentration and performance-related behaviors. Therefore, children’s yoga practices may be considered as a supportive training tool to enhance young athletes’ performance.

Although cognitive and social processes influencing students' scientific thinking skills have been extensively studied in recent years, the interplay between these processes remains insufficiently understood. This study examines the mediating role of research collaboration in the relationship between epistemic curiosity and critical thinking, as well as the moderating role of students’ scientific inquiry skills in shaping these dynamics. Adopting a pragmatist paradigm, this research employs a mixed-methods research design, specifically an exploratory sequential design with a scale development component. The qualitative phase utilizes a case study design, incorporating in-depth interviews with teachers from science upper secondary in Mersin, Türkiye, to inform the theoretical framework for scale development. The quantitative phase applies a causal-comparative design, analyzing data from 371 teachers to test a moderated mediation model. The psychometric properties of the developed scale were rigorously assessed through content validity, construct validity, and reliability analyses, confirming its validity and reliability. Findings indicate that scientific collaboration significantly enhances the effect of scientific curiosity on critical thinking. However, the magnitude of this effect varies depending on students' scientific inquiry skills. Qualitative insights reveal that while teachers endorse student-centered approaches, they encounter challenges in implementing these methods effectively in classroom settings. Keywords: critical thinking, scientific collaboration, scientific curiosity, scientific inquiry
