This paper proposes a distributed multi-period multi-energy operational model for the multi-carrier energy system. In this model, energy hubs function as distributed decision-makers and feature the synergistic interactions of generation, delivery, and consumption of coupled electrical, heating, and natural gas energy networks. The multi-period multi-energy scheduling is a challenging optimization problem due to its strong couplings and inherent nonconvexities within the multi-energy networks. The original problem is thus reformulated as a mixed integer second-order cone programming (MISOCP) and subsequently solved with a sequential second-order cone programming (SOCP) approach to guarantee a satisfactory convergence performance. Furthermore, a fully-distributed consensus-based alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) approach with only neighboring information exchange required is developed to optimize the multi-energy flows while considering the local energy-autonomy of heterogeneous energy hubs. The proposed methodology is performed and benchmarked on a four-hub urban multi-energy system over a 24 hourly scheduling periods. Simulation results demonstrated the superiority of the proposed scheme in system operational economy and renewable energy utilization, and also verify the effectiveness of the proposed distributed approach.

Currently, narrowband Power line communication (PLC) is considered an attractive communication system in smart grid environments for applications such as advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). In this paper, we will present a comprehensive comparison and analysis in time and frequency domain of noise measured in China and Italy. In addition, impulsive noise in these two countries are mainly analyzed and modeled using two probability based models, Middleton Class A (MCA) model and α stable distribution model. The results prove that noise measured in China is rich in impulsive noise, and can be modeled well by α stable distribution model, while noise measured in Italy has less impulsive noise, and can be better modeled by the MCA model.

With increasing renewable energy generation capacities connected to the power grid, a number of decision-making problems require some form of consistency in the forecasts that are being used as input. In everyday words, one expects that the sum of the power generation forecasts for a set of wind farms is equal to the forecast made directly for the power generation of that portfolio. This forecast reconciliation problem has attracted increased attention in the energy forecasting literature over the last few years. Here, we review the state of the art and its applicability to day-ahead forecasting of wind power generation, in the context of spatial reconciliation. After gathering some observations on the properties of the game-theoretical optimal projection reconciliation approach, we propose to readily rethink it in a distributed setup by using the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM). Three case studies are considered for illustrating the interest and performance of the approach, based on simulated data, the National Renewable Energy Labaratory (NREL) Wind Toolkit dataset, and a dataset for a number of geographically distributed wind farms in Sardinia, Italy.

In power line communication, impulsive noise (IN) greatly degrades the performance of signal transmission. Generally, an IN model adopts Middleton Class A or Bernoulli Gaussian model with the assumption that IN is sparse and memoryless. However, IN collected in fields appears in bursts. In this paper, interleaving in time domain is applied to create a special structure in frequency domain for IN burst. Based on the special structure, IN support is determined by using multiple signal classification (MUSIC) and its amplitude is estimated by least squares method in frequency domain, exploiting the noise information on null subcarriers in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system. In addition, sparse Bayesian Learning algorithm with IN support based on MUSIC is also investigated. Simulations are conducted to evaluate the proposed IN estimation performance, with varying ratio of IN power to background noise power, and number of null subcarriers.

A data‐based estimation of the wind–power curve in wind turbines may be a challenging task due to the presence of anomalous data, possibly due to wrong sensor reads, operation halts, malfunctions or other. In this study, the authors describe a data‐based procedure to build a robust and accurate estimate of the wind–power curve. In particular, they combine a joint clustering procedure, where both the wind speeds and the power data are clustered, with an Earth Mover Distance‐based Extreme Learning Machine algorithm to filter out data that poorly contribute to explain the unknown curve. After estimating the cut‐in and the rated speed, they use a radial basis function neural network to fit the filtered data and obtain the curve estimate. They extensively compared the proposed procedure against other conventional methodologies over measured data of nine turbines, to assess and discuss its performance.
