Although white lupin is the oldest known legume in the history, it has been forgotten for many years. Now, the interest of food producers concerning white lupin is increased again. The aim of this study was to evaluate the total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant activity (AA), and the content of selected phenolics in 11 white lupin cultivars. The determined TPC was in the interval 42605663mg GAE/kg DM and the values of AA determined using DPPH•, ABTS•+, and FRAP methods were in the ranges 0.9931.878, 5.4967.924, and 1.3281.741μmolTE/g DM, respectively. Individual phenolics content (4-hydroxybenzoic acid, caffeic acid, trans-p-coumaric acid, trans-ferulic acid, myricetin, quercetin, apigenin, and genistein) were determined, too. Caffeic acid (442.9766.2mg/kg DM) and myricetin (11.221.2mg/kg DM) are the dominant phenolics in the investigated lupin cultivars. Statistically significant differences in all investigated variables were observed between the tested cultivars except for quercetin. The obtained results show that the Astra and Nelly cultivars are a rich source of phenolic acids.

White lupin seed is a unique legume rich in protein and fiber contents, as well as phytochemicals with health potential that contributes to a reduced risk of dyslipidemia, obesity and intestinal dysfunction. This study was focused on the effect of the year on the contents of caffeic acid, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, trans-ferulic, trans-p-coumaric, quercetin, myricetin, kaempferol, apigenin and genistein, as well as the antioxidant activity and total polyphenols, of seeds of eleven varieties (Lupine albus). The contents of individual phenolic substances were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography–HPLC. The total content of polyphenols and the antioxidant activity were determined spectrophotometrically. The results show that the lowest contents of phenolic acids were found in the seeds from 2018. The caffeic acid and trans-ferulic acid were the most represented among all phenolic acids, during all 3 monitored years (2017, 2018, and 2019). Our results confirm the significant influence of the year of cultivation on the bioactive substances’ content in the seeds, and this can be potentially useful for the appropriate selection of locations for lupine growers in Slovakia, taking into account the climatic conditions of the given location. This study provides information about a legume that is underutilized in human nutrition, which may be a valuable source of bioactive substances.

This study was aimed at evaluating the genetic diversity and authentication of apricot cultivars from Slovak and Austrian orchards. Eleven highly polymorphic SSR markers were used to analyse 53 apricot genotypes. A high level of genetic diversity was observed, with a mean of 13 alleles per locus and a mean expected heterozygosity of 0.811. The most polymorphic locus, UDP97-402, exhibited a probability of identity of 0.025, indicating a high discriminatory power. Differentiation analyses revealed distinct groupings of cultivars based on geographical origin and pedigree. Central European cultivars, particularly those related to the landrace ‘Hungarian Best’, formed a distinct cluster. Modern Slovakian cultivars, influenced by the genetic background of cultivars from China and Central Asia, showed a higher level of genetic diversity. The Western European and North American cultivars formed a separate cluster. The developed SSR database proved to be effective in identifying apricot cultivars and detecting mislabelled or misidentified samples. A significant proportion (74%) of samples from commercial orchards were properly and correctly labelled, while 26% were mislabelled. Fifty-three per cent of samples from shops without a cultivar name were successfully identified, and their labels were verified. These results highlight the potential of SSR markers for genetic diversity assessment and cultivar identification in apricots. The results contribute to a better understanding of apricot genetic resources and provide valuable information for breeding programmes, germplasm conservation, and cultivar authentication.

A novel high molecular weight glutenin subunit encoded by the Glu-1B locus was identified in the French genotype Bagou, which we named 1B × 6.5. This subunit differed in SDS-PAGE from well-known 1B × 6 and 1B × 7 subunits, which are also encoded at this locus. Subunit 1B × 6.5 has a theoretical molecular weight of 88,322.83 Da, which is more mobile than 1B × 6 subunit, and isoelectric point (pI) of about 8.7, which is lower than that for 1B × 6 subunit. The specific primers were designed to amplify and sequence 2476 bp of the Glu-1B locus from genotype Bagou. A high level of similarity was found between the sequence encoding 1B × 6.5 and other x-type encoding alleles of this locus.

In the study, we focused on the evaluation of the content of biogenic elements inducted by the addition of inoculant in six Slovak chickpea varieties. We analyzed Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, Cr, Ni, Co, K, Na, Ca, Mg and P. We evaluated two variants from each variety control variant (A) and variant with inoculant (B). Seed inoculation was provided by the inoculant Rizobin. We used for analyzed 1 g from dry seeds from each genotype. We mineralized the samples on a MARS X-press. The result was atomic absorption spectrometry using VARIAN DUO 240FS / 240Z. The average Cu content in A control variant was 5.95 mg.kg(-1) was reduced to 5.53 mg.kg(-1) by the addition of inoculant. For Zn, we also recorded a reduction by the addition of inoculant from 25.43 mg.kg(-1) of variant A to 24.95 mg.kg(-1) of B variant. The Mn content was the same in both variants and did not change significantly. We recorded the largest differences in the Fe content. The Fe content was reduced from 50.60 mg.kg-1 variant A to 45.07 mg.kg-1 variant B by adding an inoculant. The content of Cr, Ni and Co did not change significantly with the addition of inoculant. Potassium ranged from 8904.45 mg.kg(-1) variant A to 8720 mg.kg(-1) B variant. Variant A had detected a higher Na content 84.22 mg.kg(-)(1). The average content of Ca and Mg was reduced by adding the inoculant of B variant. The P content of 1400.88 mg.kg-1 variant B was reduced in variant A to 1346.53 mg.kg-(1).
