Major accidents occurred frequently in the road transportation industry, and the resulting harm to drivers, property loss, and traffic interruption are very serious. This study investigated 11 particularly major accidents involving commercial vehicles in China, and performed analysis on accident characteristics regarding the time, location, types of vehicles, and accident causation at different levels based on the 24Model. Large buses and dangerous goods vehicles were involved in 10 accidents and they all occurred on a freeway. The months from May to August, especially during the time periods of 2:00–4:00 and 14:00–16:00 every day, were the most prone to accidents. The driver’s speeding and fatigued driving, and vehicle failure were the direct causes of most of the accidents. The defects in organizational safety management involved 12 system elements, such as safety accountability, education and training, etc. Procedures are of no use if they were not followed, and there was often no effective process to assess the implementation of procedures in many organizations. The weaknesses in organizational safety culture were the source of accidents, which was mainly manifested in members’ inadequate cognition of key elements in the aspects of safety importance, safety commitment, safety management system, etc. Understanding the characteristics and root causes of accidents can help to prevent the recurrence of similar mistakes and strengthen preventative measures in road transportation enterprises.

Coordinated ramp metering (CRM) is one effective measure to alleviate urban expressway congestion. Traditional model-based methods generally concentrate on single-bottleneck scenarios, while ignoring the case of multiple bottlenecks. In addition, the fixed-sensor fails to fully capture the dynamic traffic characteristics. The rapid development of traffic detection technology has made available a large amount of automatic vehicle identification (AVI) data, which can record detailed individual trajectories. Taking advantage of the AVI data, CRM can be improved. Besides, multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL) and game theory have been proven to be effective for traffic signal control. These methods can address the challenges faced by CRM, such as solving nonlinear and high-dimensional optimization problems. This paper proposes a distributed CRM strategy with multi-bottleneck to minimize the total travel time and balance the multiple on-ramps equity, using the individual trajectory information from AVI data. Firstly, the paper defines road segment units, road segment groups, and bottlenecks. Next, the problem is formulated as a potential game that captures the interaction among multiple bottlenecks. The controllers utilize the MADDPG algorithm to determine the green duration of the on-ramps. Finally, the proposed strategy is tested on a real-world urban expressway in a microsimulation platform SUMO. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed strategy performs better than the baseline methods in eliminating mainline congestion and improving the multiple on-ramps equity. Compared to the no-control scenario, the proposed strategy has improved the performance of the system throughput, average travel time, and average mainline speed by 1.31%, 44.36%, and 115.23%.
Nowadays, navigation systems are widely used in public travel because they can instantly offer GPS-based route directions. Following the navigation prompt messages while driving is considered a secondary driving task, while vehicle control is regarded as a primary driving task. Navigation prompt messages with more information can deliver more cues to drivers, but they require a higher cognitive demand and vice versa. To systematically explore the effects of the amount of information from navigation voice prompts and further quantify the utility of voice prompts, four types of prompt messages with increasing amounts of information, denoted as a Single Message, Double Message, Triple Message, and Quadruple Message, were designed. A driving simulation experiment was conducted to obtain driving behavior data under different prompt messages. The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Kruskal–Wallis (KW) test were used to examine the differences in driving performance under the guidance of different prompt messages from multiple perspectives. Then, eight indicators were selected based on the functions of the navigation system and the driver’s response, and the grey near-optimal method was used to determine the utility of the four types of prompt messages. This study found that the four types of navigation prompt messages all began to take effect at about 200 m upstream of the stop bar. The differences between the four types of prompt messages were more significant in the zone from 100 m upstream and ended at 100 m downstream of the stop bar of the intersection. Drivers using Single and Double Messages exhibited more powerful deceleration than those using Triple and Quadruple Messages. The utility values of the four types of prompt messages increased with the increase in the amount of information. This study provides theoretical support for optimizing navigation information and lays a foundation for establishing navigation broadcast guidelines.

To analyze the factors affecting road accidents involving hazardous materials, the Bayesian network (BN) model was used to fit the accident data. However, considering the possible overfitting phenomenon of the BN model, the model was optimised by combining Pearson’s chi‐squared test and Granger causality test (PG) methods. First, the data of hazardous materials accidents were preprocessed, and the index system of factors affecting hazardous materials road transport was constructed from five dimensions of “people, vehicles, hazmat, roads, and environment”; second, Pearson’s chi‐squared test and the Granger causality test were used to screen the factors affecting hazardous materials road transport accidents and to determine the causal relationship between the factors; finally, the BN model was constructed with accident severity and accident processing time as target nodes, and the results were analyzed and validated. The results show that the overall relative error rate of the model is less than 10% and can be used to explore the risk factors of hazardous materials transport accidents; weather, visibility, lighting, intersection type, road condition, road type, driver condition, vehicle type, etc. are all important factors affecting the severity of hazardous materials transport accidents. The study can serve as a reference for the safety supervision and management of hazardous materials transport enterprises and industrial management departments.

As expressway networks expand and road system complexity increases, the demand for accurate traffic assignment results continues to grow. However, traditional models struggle to capture the behavioral inertia of travelers, limiting assignment accuracy. This study proposes a novel traffic assignment model integrating graph convolutional networks (GCNs) with the multicriteria decision‐making method TODIM. Vehicle trajectory data from expressway toll gantries enable GCN to extract route choice inertia, whereas TODIM incorporates travel time, distance, and cost to simulate dynamic path selection. An iterative optimization process achieves traffic flow equilibrium. The model was validated on expressway networks in Jinan, Taian, and Weifang, Shandong Provinces. Results show that during peak hours, the GCN‐TODIM (G‐T) model outperforms stochastic user equilibrium (SUE), bounded rational user equilibrium (BR‐UE), and mean excess travel time (METT), reducing mean absolute error by 36.1%–52.4% and root‐mean‐square error by 27.3%–43.5% and improving R2 by 13.9%–16.6%. Similar improvements were seen off‐peak, confirming strong accuracy and robustness, especially in networks with many segments and ramps. Overall, the G‐T model offers an efficient, practical tool for traffic assignment, supporting more scientific highway planning and management strategies.
The joint optimization of routing and three-dimensional loading is a highly complex NP-hard combinatorial problem, particularly when stringent center-of-gravity (CoG) stability constraints are required for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations. Existing algorithms typically adopt a route-first, load-second evaluation strategy for these interconnected components, often yielding distance-optimal yet physically infeasible solutions. To address this bottleneck, this paper formulates the Three-Dimensional Loading-Constrained UAV Routing Problem (3DLC-UAVRP), integrating unloading sequence consistency, spatial packing feasibility, and CoG deviation control into the routing decision process. A guided collaborative optimization framework, GLS-WSCPA, is proposed, coupling an Improved White Shark Optimization (IWSO) algorithm for global route exploration with a Human-like Divide-and-Conquer Packing Strategy (HLDCPS) for spatial arrangement. Unlike conventional decoupled approaches that treat loading feasibility as a post hoc filter, a Center-of-Gravity-Guided Path Adjustment (CGPA) and Local Loading Repair (LLR) mechanism is introduced to establish a dynamic feedback loop between routing search and loading evaluation, so that CoG violations are actively translated into guided routing perturbations rather than simply triggering solution rejection. Experimental results demonstrate that GLS-WSCPA generally achieves better solutions than the compared algorithms across the tested problem scales, with the performance gap tending to widen as the instance size increases within the tested range. Ablation studies verify the complementary roles of CGPA and LLR, and sensitivity analysis confirms that moderately relaxing payload and CoG constraints reduces routing distance within safety boundaries. Case analysis shows that the proposed method reduces fleet size by 20% and total delivery distance by 6.85% compared to traditional decoupled strategies.
