Quantifying the progress and interactions of the 11 indicators of Sustainable Development Goal 11 plays a crucial role in improving urban living and promoting urban prosperity. SDG 11, focused on sustainable cities and communities, employs forward-thinking strategies to address challenges arising from urban prosperity and development, such as land scarcity and resource shortages. This paper positions the indicators of SDG 11, analyzing the patterns, trends, dynamics, and issues of urbanization development in Guilin using a combination of geospatial satellite resource data and categorical statistical data. The study introduces a framework and positioning method for assessing sustainable development at the city–county scale, exploring the current state, spatial aggregation, synergies, and trade-offs in the development of Guilin City. The study introduces a framework and positioning method for assessing sustainable development at the city–county scale. Utilizing a localized evaluation system, it explores the developmental status of Guilin City. The application of Moran’s Index observes spatial aggregation among entities. By investigating Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient, it delves into the interplay of synergies and trade-offs within the studied region. Ultimately, it reveals significant disparities in the developmental landscape of the evaluated area, with a comprehensive spatial distribution indicating higher levels of development in the central and western regions and lower levels in the southeastern part. Strengthened cross-leverage and coordination are imperative to address the interconnections and harmonization of the developmental trends of the six synergistic indicators and nine trade-off indicators during the developmental process. The sustainable development of Guilin lays the groundwork for urban planning, construction, conservation, and management, positioning it as a potential model for successful sustainable development practices.

Changes in grassland fractional vegetation coverage (FVC) are important indicators of global climate change. Due to the unique characteristics of the Tibetan Plateau ecosystem, variations in grassland coverage are crucial to its ecological stability. This study utilizes the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform to retrieve long-term MODIS data and analyzes the spatiotemporal distribution of grassland FVC across the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP) over 24 years (2000–2023). The grassland growth index (GI) is used to evaluate the annual grassland growth at the pixel level. GI is an important indicator for measuring grassland growth status, which can effectively measure the changes in grassland growth in each year relative to the base year. FVC trends are monitored using Sen-Mann-Kendall slope estimation, the coefficient of variation, and the Hurst exponent. Geographic detectors and partial correlation analysis are then applied to explore the contribution rates of key driving factors to FVC. The results show: (1) From 2000 to 2023, FVC exhibited an overall upward trend, with an annual growth rate of 0.0881%. The distribution of FVC on the QTP follows a pattern of higher values in the east and lower values in the west; (2) Over the past 24 years, 54.05% of the total grassland area has shown a significant increase, 23.88% has remained stable, and only a small portion has shown a significant decrease. The overall trend is expected to continue with minimal variability, covering 82.36% of the total grassland area. The overall grassland GI suggests a balanced state of growth; (3) precipitation (Pre) and soil moisture (SM) are the main single factors affecting FVC changes in grasslands on the Tibetan Plateau (q = 0.59 and 0.46). In the interaction detection, in addition to the highest interaction between Pre and other factors, the interaction between SM and other factors also showed a significant impact on the changes in FVC of the QTP grassland; partial correlation analysis of hydrothermal factors and FVC of the QTP grassland. It shows that precipitation has a stronger correlation with QTP grassland FVC changes than temperature. This study has enhanced our understanding of grassland vegetation change and its driving factors on the QTP and quantitatively described the relationship between vegetation change and driving factors, which is of great significance for maintaining the sustainable development of grassland ecosystems.

Flooding is among the world’s most destructive natural disasters. From 27 July to 1 August 2023, Zhuozhou City and surrounding areas in Hebei Province experienced extreme rainfall, severely impacting local food security. To swiftly map the spatial and temporal distribution of the floodwaters and assess the damage to major crops, this study proposes a water body identification method with a dual polarization band combination for synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) data to solve the differences in water body feature recognition in SAR due to different polarization modes. Based on the SAR water body extent, the flood inundation extent was mapped with GF-6 optical data. In addition, Landsat-8 data were used to generate information on significant crops in the study area, while Sentinel-2 data and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform were used to classify the extent of crop damage. The results indicate that the flood inundated 700.51 km2, 14.10% of the study area. Approximately 40,700 hectares (ha) or 8.46% of the main crops were affected, including 33,700 ha of maize, 4300 ha of vegetables, and 2800 ha of beans. Moderate crop damage was the most widespread, affecting 37.62% of the crops, while very extreme damage was the least, affecting 5.10%. Zhuozhou City experienced the most significant impact, with 13,700 ha of crop damage, accounting for 33.70% of the total. This study provides a computational framework for rapid flood monitoring using multi-source remote sensing data, which also serves as a reference for post-disaster recovery, agricultural production, and crop risk assessment.

SDG 9.1.1 and SDG 11.2.1 are significant evaluation indicators of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to transportation accessibility and are used to measure the proportion of the population facilitating the use of road services in rural areas and the proportion of the population facilitating the use of public transportation services in urban areas, respectively. However, there are currently challenges related to incomplete data and the inadequate interpretation of the indicators. In this study, we therefore evaluate the spatiotemporal patterns of the indicators and the number of disadvantaged groups in 337 Chinese cities from 2015 to 2022 based on multi-source data, and explore the spatial aggregation of the indicators and the driving factors. The results demonstrate that the indicator values of SDG 9.1.1 and SDG 11.2.1 reached 99.36% and 90.00%, respectively, in 2022, and the number of vulnerable groups decreased to approximately 1.89 million and 2.82 million. The indicator values of SDG 9.1.1 are high in the eastern part of China and low in the western part of the country, whereas the indicator values of SDG 11.2.1 exhibit spatial agglomeration in regions such as the Pearl River Delta. The average rural elevation and the density of urban public transportation stops are the most influential factors for these two indicators, respectively. The insights and data from this study provide support for improving transportation infrastructure and inequality in China, contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
