Dr. Azlan Abas is a Senior Lecturer of Environmental Management at the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, UKM. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Microbiology) from Universiti Kebangsaan, Malaysia (UKM), and a Master's in Environmental Management from the same university. He completed his PhD in the Environmental Management Program from UKM. His main research includes ecological indicators, which mainly focus on lichen as the biological indicator. He also works on lichen ecology in Malaysia and the development of the Ecosystem Services Index. At the national level, his research group has worked closely with government agencies, such as the Department of Environment, Malaysia, and he has collaborated internationally with many institutions, such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, and the Australian National Botanic Gardens.
