Production of highly solidifying abnormal oils (with a paraffin content of over 30 % by mass) in the Far North is complicated by the intensive formation of asphalt-resin-paraffin deposits ( ARPD) in the bottomhole zone of the productive formation, well and surface equipment. Existing methods and technologies for countering the formation of organic deposits in well equipment have many advantages. However, their application in the production of highly paraffinic oil does not fully prevent the formation of ARPD in the tubing string. This leads to a significant reduction in oil production, reduction of turnaround and intertreatment periods of production wells operation, an increase in specific operating expenses for paraffin removal. Results of theoretical and laboratory investigations presented in the article show that one of the promising ways to improve the operational efficiency of wells equipped with electric submersible pumps during extraction of highly paraffinic oil from multiformation deposits is the application of a new integrated technology based on the joint production of highly solidifying abnormal oil with oil, characterized by a lower paraffin content and manifestation of structural and mechanical properties, in conjunction with the regulation of the parameters for the electric submersible pump. Results of numerical modeling using the PIPESIM steady-state multiphase flow simulator, physical, chemical and rheological investigations show that with a decrease of highly paraffinic oil from the productive formation D2ef in a blend with Stary Oskol oil from the Kyrtaelskoye field, a decrease in the mass content of paraffin in the blend and the temperature of its saturation with paraffin, depth and intensity of the organic deposits formation in the tubing string, pour point, as well as the improvement of the rheological properties of the investigated structured dispersed systems is observed. Article describes a promising assembly of well equipment for the single tubing separate production of highly paraffinic oil from multiformation deposits of the Timan-Pechora province, providing separation of the perforation zones in two productive formations using a packer-anchor system at simultaneous-separate operation of the formations by a double electric submersible pump unit.

The article is devoted to the issue of a low sweep efficiency in the heterogeneous terrigenous reservoirs containing remaining oil. Water plugging operations that redirect the injection fluid flows into unswept zones, are one approach to enhancing the oil recovery in these reservoirs. The commonly used chemical reagents in these treatments are acrylate polymer solutions. The polymer solutions must reach the target water-saturated zones and form a strong gel barrier there. Furthermore, the polymer compositions should have a low initial viscosity to provide a good injectivity and penetration ability. Therefore, the methods of adjusting the gelation time are necessary. There are numerous studies in modern scientific society devoted to the study of water-plugging polymer compositions. However, aspects, such as the effect of the hydrogen index on gelation, have received insufficient attention. In this paper, we describe the features of the developed polymer composition, based on a hydrolyzed polymer of acrylonitrile with a controlled gelation time for the chemically enhanced oil recovery. The component composition and the concentration levels were selected, based on the alterations in the hydrogen index of the polymer solution. It was scientifically proven that by adhering to a neutral hydrogen index, it is possible to improve the properties of the polymer composition. Moreover, using a model of a heterogeneous reservoir, it was confirmed that the proposed polymer composition achieves selective plugging. As a result of the polymer gel treatment, the water cut decreased by 4% and the displacement coefficient of oil increased by 20%, in comparison with the effect of the original composition without a gel-time modifier.

The objective of this research is to estimate individual effect of various external parameters such as pressure, cooling rate, watercut and addition of mechanical impurities on change in wax appearance temperature (WAT) in oil. In this paper, complex multicomponent system like oil is replaced to simplified model solution, presented by wax in kerosene solution. Research methods in the study were visual method at high-pressure/high-temperature conditions and rheological method under ambient pressure. Experimental results shown that WAT grows with increase in concentration of wax in solution, increase in pressure, watercut, shear rate, addition of mechanical impurities and decrease in gap size of the measuring system (for rheological method). Numerical dependences of WAT in solution on the listed factors are received. Research data are explained by the thermodynamic processes proceeding in model solution. Influence of wax inhibitors addition on process of the crystal structure formation in model solutions and effective wax inhibitors is defined.

Within the past few decades, the production of high-wax oils at offshore fields in Vietnam has been fraught with severe problems due to the intense formation of asphalt-resin-paraffin deposits (ARPD) in the downhole oil and gas equipment. The formation of organic wax deposits in the tubing string led to a significant decrease in gas-lift wells production, efficiency of compressor units, transport capacity of the piping systems, along with an increase in equipment failure. Subsequently, the efficiency of gas-lift wells dramatically decreased to less than 40% as a whole. The existing methods and technologies for combating organic wax deposit formation in downhole equipment have many advantages. However, their use in producing high-wax anomalous oil does not entirely prevent the wax formation in the tubing string and leads to a significant reduction in oil production, transport capacity, and treatment intervals. The results of theoretical and experimental studies presented in this article demonstrate that a promising approach to improve the efficiency of gas-lift wells during the production of high-wax oil is to use the technology of periodic injection of hot associated petroleum gas (APG) into the annulus of an oil-producing well. The effectiveness of the proposed method of combating wax formation in gas-lift wells highly depends on the combination of a few factors: the determination of wax deposit formation intensity in the well and the implementation of a set of preparatory measures to determine the optimal injection mode of hot APG (flow rate and injection depth) into the annulus between tubing strings and technological pipes. The injection depth of the hot APG should not be less than the depth of wax formation in the tubing string. The optimal injection rate of hot APG is determined by analyzing and mathematically modeling the APG injection system based on well-known thermodynamic laws.

Well killing is an important technological stage before conducting workover operation, one of the tasks of which is to preserve and restore the natural filtration characteristics of the bottomhole formation zone (BFZ). Special attention should be paid to the choice of well killing technologies and development of wells in complicated conditions, which include abnormally low reservoir pressure, high oil-gas ratio and carbonate reservoir type. To preserve the filtration characteristics of the productive formation and prevent fluid losses in producing wells during well killing operation, blocking compositions are used. At the same time, an informed choice of the most effective well killing technologies is required. Consequently, there is a need to conduct laboratory physicochemical and coreflood experiments simulating geological, physical, and technological conditions of field development, as similar as possible to actual reservoir conditions. The article presents the results of experimental studies on the development well killing technologies of producing wells during workover operation in various geological, physical, and technological conditions of oil field development. Physicochemical and coreflood laboratory experiments were carried out with the simulation of the processes of well killing and development of wells in reservoir conditions with the use of modern high-technology equipment in the Enhanced Oil Recovery Laboratory of the Department of Development and Operation of Oil and Gas Fields at St. Petersburg Mining University. As a result of the experimental studies, new compositions of well killing and stimulation fluids were developed, which ensure to prevent fluid loss, gas breakthrough, as well as the preservation, restoration and improvement of the filtration characteristics of the BFZ in the conditions of terrigenous and carbonate reservoirs at different stages of oil field development. It is determined that the developed process fluids, which include surfactants (YALAN-E2 and NG-1), have a hydrophobic effect on the porous medium of reservoir rocks, which ultimately contributes to the preservation, restoration and improvement of the filtration characteristics of the BFZ. The value of the presented research results is relevant for practice and confirmed by the fact that, as a result of field tests of the technology for blocking the BFZ with the composition of inverse water–oil emulsion during well killing before workover operation, an improvement in the efficiency of wells operation was obtained in the form of an increase in their oil production rate by an average of 5–10 m3/day, reducing the time required for the well to start operating up to 1–3 days and reducing the water cut of formation fluid by 20–30%.
