Numerous contributions of small business performance to economic development have been recognised since many years ago. However, many businesses are unable to sustain due to various factors including lack of entrepreneurial orientation practices, insufficient financial resources and no competitive advantage. The main aim of this paper is to analyse the impact of entrepreneurial orientation practices and access to external finance on small business performance. This research has introduced serial mediating effects of access to external finance and competitive advantages toward the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and small business performance. A sample of 280 small businesses in the East Coast Region of Malaysia, which has utilised the proportionate stratified random sampling, was selected to construct a structural model. The structural model has confirmed that entrepreneurial orientation practices are significantly related to small business performance. The study has verified that access to external finance has partially mediated the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation practices and small business performance. In extending existing literature, this study has underlined entrepreneurial orientation practices and small business performance as partially serial mediated by the access to finance and competitive advantage. Besides consolidating the Resource-based View theory, this research is also significant to government bodies, NGOs, private bodies, policymakers and small entrepreneurs. The research highlights the importance of entrepreneurial orientation practices and sufficient access to finance on generating competitive advantages, ultimately increasing business performance variation.

In order to address the issues of climate change through wise management of resources and environmental conservation, this study examined the intention and behavior towards green consumption among low-income households. This study was a cross-sectional that relied on 380 low-income household respondents who lived in coastal areas of Peninsular Malaysia. The findings revealed a positive effect of eco-literacy and self-efficacy on attitude towards green products. Subsequently, the findings also ascertained a positive effect of attitude and perceived behavioral control on intention and consumption of green products. In addition, both scholars and policymakers can rely on these findings to increase the intention and behavior towards the consumption of green products in order to reduce the environmental vulnerability to the coastal communities. Therefore, responsible organizations should implement programs and policies that minimize the adverse effects of climate change through resource management and environmental conservation by promoting the use of green products among Malaysians.

In an attempt to promote the mass consumption of environmentally friendly products in Malaysia, this study presents an investigation of the effects of several selected factors upon willingness to pay and purchase behavior of environmental-friendly products. This study employed a cross-sectional design, in which quantitative data were gathered from a total of 380 low-income household heads from 38 coastal districts in Peninsular Malaysia. The outcomes of this study revealed the positively significant effects of eco-literacy and environmental concern upon attitudes towards environmental-friendly products; normative beliefs and perceived behavioral control on willingness to pay for environmental-friendly products; as well as willingness to pay for environmental-friendly products and perceived behavioral control on payment behavior for environmental-friendly products, among low-income households in coastal Peninsular Malaysia. Programs and policies should therefore focus on promoting environmental awareness and knowledge concerning the relative advantages that are expected to improve willingness among consumers to pay for environmentally friendly products.

This study examines the influence of social media, socio-cultural and political-legal factors on leadership participation among Malaysian Youths. Using a conceptual framework, the study aims at investigating the possible reasons why most Malaysian youths at secondary and tertiary educational institutions have low participation in leadership activities in their communities. The study adopts a survey and proportionate stratified random sampling method to collect data. Data analysis method is hierarchical regression. The results of this study would help Malaysian Government in proper social and leadership policy decisions that could engender greater leadership participation among Malaysian youths.

The study seeks to investigate the possible reasons why most Malaysian youths have low participation in leadership activities in their communities. Could it be socio-cultural influence or political-legal factors? In doing this, the study aims to extend the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to accommodate these factors noticed in Malaysian context. To seek answers to the above question, this study intends to adopt a survey (questionnaire) and a proportionate stratified random sampling method to collect data from youths in universities, polytechnics, secondary (cluster/special) schools in Malaysia peninsula. Data would be analyzed using descriptive statistics, multiple and hierarchical regression methods. Conclusion and recommendation are to be drawn from the findings for use by policy-makers and the various stakeholders in youth development in order to engender greater leadership participation among Malaysian youths. The objective of this study is to determine the distribution of social capital across industries and states in Peninsular Malaysia, since social capital is considered one of the key factors that contribute to the performance of micro-enterprises. This study employs the cross-sectional approach and quantitative data were collected through structured interviews from 417 women micro-entrepreneurs in Peninsular Malaysia. It was found that the distribution of social capital is the same across industries except for ‘shared meaning and interpretation’ and ‘cognitive social capital’. However, findings reported a significant difference in items of social capital among the states, except for ‘network density’. Policy makers should therefore focus on interactive programs in order to increase the social capital of the states with a low level of social capital as social capital is linked to enterprise performance and economic development. Social capital and its dimensions are highly interrelated, and the outcome of social capital provides entrepreneurs with resources and knowledge that are not available in the first place. The objective of this study is to examine the effect of relational and cognitive social capital on structural social capital and the effect of structural social capital on the performance of micro-enterprises owned and managed by women in Peninsular Malaysia. This study uses a cross-sectional approach, and quantitative data are collected through structured interviews. It was found that cognitive social capital has a significant positive effect on structural social capital, and structural social capital has a significant positive effect on micro-enterprise performance. It was found that relational social capital has a positive but insignificant effect on structural social capital. Therefore, women entrepreneurs should emphasize on making the communication process easier and on ensuring that their business values, norms, interpretation, and meaning are shared and communicated to relevant parties to improve network ties and to build a dense network, which is essential in providing access to resources and knowledge. This, in return, is expected to improve the micro-enterprise performance in Malaysia.
