Introduction: Studying the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and insomnia among medical workers in emergency medical services is a relevant task that will improve our understanding of scope of the problem and develop effective strategies to support and prevent psychological problems among medical staff. Insomnia is closely linked to anxiety and depression, as sleep disturbances can exacerbate emotional distress, while persistent anxiety and depressive symptoms contribute to sleep disruptions. Individuals suffering from insomnia are at a higher risk of developing anxiety and depression, creating a bidirectional relationship that negatively impacts overall mental well-being. This raises a crucial question: “What specific measures and intervention strategies can be implemented to reduce the levels of anxiety, depression, and insomnia among EMS personnel?” Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with the participation of 592 medical workers employed in emergency medical services in the East Kazakhstan and Abay regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This study included questions regarding the socio-demographic data of the respondents, questions assessing the severity of insomnia using the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and questions from the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scale assessing the level of anxiety and depression among the participants. Results: Nearly a third of the EMS personnel reported symptoms of insomnia (28.2% subthreshold, 16.2% insomnia, and 3.0% severe), anxiety (22.1% subclinical, and 13.0% clinical), or depression (20.4% subclinical, and 9.8% clinical). Feldshers (nursing staff) and those with higher education had elevated levels of these conditions. The insomnia was strongly correlated with anxiety (r = 0.539, p < 0.001) and depression (r = 0.415, p < 0.001), emphasizing the need for targeted mental health interventions. Conclusions: This study found elevated levels of insomnia, anxiety, and depression among emergency medical service (EMS) personnel—especially nursing staff and those with higher education. We recommend comprehensive mental health support, routine screenings, stress management training, and integrating sleep hygiene into wellness programs.

Стратегия поиска: Проведен поиск научных работ в поисковых системах Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, MedLine, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholarв электронной научной библиотеке e-Library.ru, CyberLeninka. Introduction. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is an ongoing and devastating threat to the lives of people around the world. Healthcare professionals are at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic, making them the most vulnerable occupational group in terms of the risk of developing COVID-19. According to the World Health Organization, many healthcare professionals have been infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and more than 3,600 healthcare professionals have died, most of whom died before age 60 during the pandemic. Additionally, more than 182 healthcare professionals have died in the Republic of Kazakhstan since the beginning of the pandemic. In this regard, as the escalation in the number of infected among healthcare professionals continues to increase, further study is needed on the challenges faced by healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 period. Objective: To analyze the literature data on ensuring health safety among healthcare professionals in the provision of specialized health care during the period of COVID-19. Search strategy: The search for sources was carried out in the following bases: Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, MedLine, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar in the electronic scientific library e-Library.ru, CyberLeninka. Introduction. Medical workers need to cope with a number of serious problems, ranging from an increased risk of death in medical institutions and at home, an increase in working hours and physical and psychological stress at work, as well as solving difficult situations arising from contact with members of the public and social isolation from colleagues and loved ones. The physical and psychological impact of working during the COVID-19 pandemic was significant: thousands of medical workers worldwide died from SARSCoV-2 infection, and some even committed suicide. It is important to note that healthcare professionals are crucial to any healthcare system. In addition, the negative impact of COVID-19 on global mental health is obviously increasing. From a social perspective, the emerging mental health burden on health care workers and other workers raises serious concerns about the sustainability of health services. Aim: To analyze the literature data on the psycho-emotional state of medical workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Search strategy: The search for sources was carried out in the following bases: Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, MedLine, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar in the electronic scientific library e-Library.ru, CyberLeninka. Inclusion criteria: the depth of the literature search was 3 years (2019-2021), original articles, literature reviews, meta-analyzes, regulatory documents in English and Russian. Exclusion criteria: publications of low methodological quality, which did not reflect the main importance, with unclear and ambiguous conclusions, repeated publications, conference proceedings and clinical cases. As a result of the search, we identified only 215 foreign and domestic publications, of which 74 publications were included in this review. Results and conclusions: According to the results of our study, numerous publications show that during the COVID-19 pandemic, at least one symptom of emotional burnout and distress was detected in medical workers. Проведен поиск научных работ в поисковых системах Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, MedLine, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar в электронной научной библиотеке e-Library.ru, CyberLeninka. Introduction. The psychoemotional state of health among medical workers is a serious problem all over the world. Ambulance doctors are particularly affected, which can affect the quality of medical care and the outflow of specialists. Medicine recognizes emotional burnout as a threat to the quality of patient care and the quality of life of doctors. This problem exists throughout medicine, but is especially common in emergency medicine. Objective: To analyze anxiety and depression among medical workers of the ambulance station of the East Kazakhstan region. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted among medical workers of the ambulance station of the East Kazakhstan region. The study was attended by doctors of the ambulance station of the East Kazakhstan region. To assess and analyze anxiety and depression, we used online and offline questionnaires using an adapted hospital scale of anxiety and depression among emergency medical station doctors. The age profile of the participants was generalized by calculating the average age and interquartile range in years. Categorical variables, including general characteristics of participants (gender, marital status, level of education, employment), knowledge about the level of anxiety and depression among AS medical workers, were summarized using frequencies and percentages. P<0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: In total, 320 medical workers of the AS of the East Kazakhstan region were included in the study. Medical workers noted that during the current pandemic and outbreaks of diseases, they experience external and internal tension, accompanied by a sense of sudden panic, the presence of slowness in work and lack of a sense of cheerfulness, some even stop paying attention to their external working appearance. Only a small number of medical workers are satisfied with their work, attributing this to the fact that their affairs (occupations, hobbies) bring them a sense of satisfaction no longer to the same extent as before. Conclusion: The state of anxiety and depression among medical professionals and its subsequent detrimental impact on individuals (psychological, physiological and social), patients and organizations remain a global problem that requires immediate attention.

Introduction. Numerous studies of mental health symptoms among the population during disease outbreaks demonstrate scientific evidence of depression, anxiety, stress, as well as other mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder, distress, fear, guilt, anger and indirect trauma, conditions that can exacerbate panic or hysterical reactions. Unfortunately, during outbreaks of diseases and other crises, there are almost always not enough adequate resources to minimize negative psychological effects. From a social perspective, the emerging mental health burden on health care workers and other workers raises serious concerns about the sustainability of health services. Objective: To conduct an analysis of anxiety and depression among medical workers of the ambulance station of the Abai region. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted among medical workers of the ambulance station (AS) of the Abai region. The study was attended by doctors of the ambulance station of the Abai region. To assess and analyze anxiety and depression, we used online and offline questionnaires using an adapted hospital scale of anxiety and depression among emergency medical station doctors. The age profile of the participants was generalized by calculating the average age and interquartile range in years. Categorical variables, including the general characteristics of participants (gender, marital status, level of education, employment), knowledge about the level of anxiety and depression among AS medical workers, were summarized using frequencies and percentages. P<0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: In total, 272 medical workers of the AS of the Abai region were included in the study. Only a small number of medical workers are satisfied with their work, attributing this to the fact that their affairs (occupations, hobbies) bring them a sense of satisfaction no longer to the same extent as before. Conclusion: Special attention should be paid to the mental health of emergency medical workers with the involvement of psychological support services at the place of residence, online mental health services and telemedicine, as well as possible psychological relief in the workplace.
