Scorzonera species exhibit various biological activities largely dependent on their chemical composition. While numerous studies have investigated these species’ secondary volatile metabolite content, to our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive study focused on Scorzonera pseudolanata. The present study aimed to identify and analyze the secondary volatile metabolites in different parts of S. pseudolanata. The composition of these metabolites was determined using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The resulting data were further analyzed through biplot analysis to differentiate among the plant parts. A total of 46 secondary volatile compounds were identified across all examined tissues. Hexadecane (13.6%) was the dominant compound in the roots, phytone (16.36%) in the leaves, and nonadecane (56.45%) in the seeds. The secondary volatile metabolite profile of S. pseudolanata differs markedly from that of other Scorzonera species, a distinction effectively visualized using a biplot diagram. This study represents the first detailed investigation into the secondary volatile metabolite composition of S. pseudolanata. It offers foundational data that may inform future in-depth research, thereby contributing to a broader understanding of the phytochemistry of this species.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different fertilizer doses and drying methods on total phenolic contents and antioxidant activity of organic white tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze) obtained from Hemşin Valley, region of Rize/Turkey. The determination of phenolic constituents was done by the Folin-Ciocalteau method and the determination of antioxidant activity by the FRAP method. The results showed that the phenolic content of white tea was as follows: 443,7- 506,2 µg GAE/g DW in the drying oven, 421,4- 473,6 µg GAE/g DW in shadow and 434,4- 485,2 µg GAE/g DW in the liofilizator. According to the FRAP method the antioxidant activity was as follows: 1130,1-1176,9 mg FeSO4/gr DW in drying oven, 1141,2-1157,1 mg FeSO4/gr DW in shadow and 1005,3-1183,2 mg FeSO4/gr DW in lyophylizator. The results revealed that different fertilizer doses and drying methods had important effects on the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of white tea.

En tr This study was carried out to determine tea (Camellia sinensis L. O. Kuntze) genotypes with high antioxidant activity and also high total phenolic content (TPC) in Rize/Turkey conditions in 2017. In the research, the seeds collected from tea plantations located at different five locations of Rize were used. Plants were grown under controlled conditions in pots in greenhouse at first and then transferred to field conditions. Harvest of fresh leaves was realized for 3.5 leaves (three leaves and bud) in August. Ferric-Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) and total phenol content of young leaves of selected 103 genotypes were determined. As a result, FRAP values varied between 638.4 and 1093.0 mg FeSO4 g-1 dw while total phenol content varied from 210.9 to 450.6 mg GAE g-1 dw depending on the genotypes. FRAP values belonging each genotype group representing locations were very close to each other. On the other hand, 87 of a total of 103 genotypes had high antioxidant values. The fact that the genotypes showed a high level of antioxidant activity and total phenol content reveals the presence of evaluable tea genotypes to be used in tea breeding in Rize.

In Vitro Multiplication of Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) Genotypes by Using Different Explants Fatih Seyis 1 , Emine Yurteri 1 , Aysel Özcan 1 1 Recep Tayyip Erdogan University, Faculty of Agronomy and Natural Sciences, Field Crops Department Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni that is a member of the Compositae family is one of the most valuable tropical medicinal plants. The origin of Stevia is South America, where it can be seen as a wild plant. Further it could be found in semi-arid habitat ranging from grassland to scrub forest to mountain terrain. Conventional cultivation or propagation methods of Stevia are as well known for time consuming, unpredictable, unreliable and less productive. Therefore, there is a crucial need to develop methods for rapid multiplication of this valuable plant. Plantlet produced through stem cutting has unstability, however the micropropagation of Stevia which may overcome some limitations associated with conventional method can be used for a rapid multiplication. Accordingly, the study results showed that different explants such as leaf, stem and root transferred to different tissue culture media for in vitro multiplication of two Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) genotypes could be reproduced by using different explants. Key words: Stevia rebaudiana, tissue culture, multiplication, in vitro , genotype, explant Corresponding author: fatih.seyis@erdogan.edu.tr

The genus of Helichrysum comprises many species which have therapeutical effects and used in folk medicine. H. pallasii is one of these species, used in the region for traditional medicine and ornamental purposes. Therefore, optimizing alternative micropropagation protocols of tissue culture conditions and secondary metabolite production for these species needs attention. The effect of Thidiazuran (TDZ) combined with Zeatin (ZEA) on shoot regeneration in H. pallasi was investigated during this study. The leaf, stem and root parts taken from the seedling germinated under in vitro conditions were used as explants. As a result, the root explants were more efficient compared to other explants in inducing plant regeneration using 1 mg L-1 Thidiazuran (TDZ) + 0.1 mg L-1 Zeatin (ZEA) (88.9%) and 1 mg L-1 TDZ treatment (85.7%). The lowest plant regeneration percentage (16.7%) was found in control medium using leaf explants.
