Adjunct Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Lisbon Superior Institute of Engineering, 2016 and at Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, 1996. PhD in Mechanical Energy from the Instituto Superior Técnico at the Technical University of Lisbon, 2015. Also completed his MSc at IST in 2001 and Mechanical Engineering degree from IST in 1990. With expertise in Refrigeration, HVAC systems, and Energy Efficiency, he served as a Technical Director Assistant at ARNEG PORTUGUESA (1990-1993) and as Technical Director at ATECNIC (1994-1996). He worked for a decade as a designer and consultant for Refrigeration and HVAC systems. For over 20 years, has been involved in international and national R&D projects, focusing on HVAC systems, Refrigeration, Energy Efficiency, Geothermal Energy, Food Processing, and air quality. From 2007-2010, he provided technical consultancy for Energy Agency for the Portuguese Energy Certification Sysrem. Also holds the title of Specialist in Refrigeration, conferred by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, 2012. Since March 2012, President of the "Standardization Technical Subcommittee" CT56 Refrigeration Plants and Equipment, CEN/TC 89. João Garcia published more than 50 articles in scientific journals and conferences. His research areas encompass food science, refrigeration, air conditioning, air quality, pollutant dispersion, energy efficiency, and sustainability. He also organized numerous international conferences in these fields.
