Image encryption is one of the essential tasks in image security. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that integrates a hyperchaotic system, pixel-level Dynamic Filtering, DNA computing, and operations on 3D Latin Cubes, namely DFDLC, for image encryption. Specifically, the approach consists of five stages: (1) a newly proposed 5D hyperchaotic system with two positive Lyapunov exponents is applied to generate a pseudorandom sequence; (2) for each pixel in an image, a filtering operation with different templates called dynamic filtering is conducted to diffuse the image; (3) DNA encoding is applied to the diffused image and then the DNA-level image is transformed into several 3D DNA-level cubes; (4) Latin cube is operated on each DNA-level cube; and (5) all the DNA cubes are integrated and decoded to a 2D cipher image. Extensive experiments are conducted on public testing images, and the results show that the proposed DFDLC can achieve state-of-the-art results in terms of several evaluation criteria.

As one of the leading types of energy, crude oil plays a crucial role in the global economy. Understanding the movement of crude oil prices is very attractive for producers, consumers and even researchers. However, due to its complex features of nonlinearity and nonstationarity, it is a very challenging task to accurately forecasting crude oil prices. Inspired by the well-known framework “decomposition and ensemble” in signal processing and/or time series forecasting, we propose a new approach that integrates the improved complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (ICEEMDAN), differential evolution (DE) and several types of ridge regression (RR), namely, ICEEMDAN-DE-RR, for more accurate crude oil price forecasting in this paper. The proposed approach consists of three steps. First, we use the ICEEMDAN to decompose the complex daily crude oil price series into several relatively simple components. Second, ridge regression or kernel ridge regression is employed to forecast each decomposed component. To enhance the accuracy of ridge regression, DE is used to jointly optimize the regularization item, the weights and parameters of each single kernel for each component. Finally, the predicted results of all components are aggregated as the final predicted results. The publicly available West Texas Intermediate (WTI) daily crude oil spot prices are used to validate the performance of the proposed approach. The experimental results indicate that the proposed approach can achieve better performance than some state-of-the-art approaches in terms of several evaluation criteria, demonstrating that the proposed ICEEMDAN-DE-RR is very promising for daily crude oil price forecasting.

Degradation of pharmaceuticals in water by TiO2 photocatalysis often suffers from low efficiency due to low activity and mass transfer limitation. In this work, diclofenac removal in tap water was performed by photocatalysis on TiO2 nanotube growth on Ti mesh substrate assisted by ozone (O3), which was generated from a hole-arrayed boron-doped diamond (HABDD) film electrode. The vertically oriented TiO2 nanotubes were used as the heterogeneous photocatalyst. The HABDD, as a self-standing diamond electrode, was designed and custom-made by MWCVD technology. The microstructures and crystalline of the TiO2 nanotubes and HABDD were characterized by a scanning electronic micrograph (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Unlike other ozone generation methods, direct generation of ozone in the flowing water was applied in the photocatalysis process, and its effect was discussed. The diclofenac removal performance of the electrochemical-photocatalytic system was studied depending on O3 generation efficiency, flowing rate, and the initial diclofenac concentration. The enhanced degradation effect from O3 molecules on TiO2 photocatalysis was attributed to the larger active surface area, the increased photo-generated charge separation rate, and the contact area of O3. The degradation efficiency in the combined electrochemical-photocatalytic TiO2/O3/UV system was higher than that of the O3/UV and TiO2/UV routes individually. Furthermore, a theoretical calculation was used to analyze the TiO2/O3 interface in aqueous media in terms of the final energy. This system created an almost in situ feeding channel of oxidants in the TiO2 photocatalysis process, thus increasing photocatalytic efficiency. This synergetic system is promising in the treatment of pharmaceuticals in water.

To reconstruct point geometry from multiple images, computation of the fundamental matrix is always necessary. With a new optimization criterion, i.e., the re-projective 3D metric geometric distance rather than projective space under RANSAC (Random Sample And Consensus) framework, our method can reveal the quality of the fundamental matrix visually through 3D reconstruction. The geometric distance is the projection error of 3D points to the corresponding image pixel coordinates in metric space. The reasonable visual figures of the reconstructed scenes are shown but only some numerical result were compared, as is standard practice. This criterion can lead to a better 3D reconstruction result especially in 3D metric space. Our experiments validate our new error criterion and the quality of fundamental matrix under the new criterion.

Computer image recognition (CIR) on the diffraction patterns of X-ray single crystal diffractometer was used to assist the analysis of the unit cell parameters in terms of lattice volume. This method can improve the prediction accuracy of unit cell parameters in the pre-experiment step since erroneous prediction by the software may occur for 5% tested crystal samples, which may critically affect the complete crystal data quality and cause unnecessary testing time. In the imaging processing, the diffraction pattern images saved as .img format files were firstly batch transferred into .jpg format with high quality for further treatment. Specific features of the crystal diffraction points or zones in the images were extracted for the recognition processing by color mode. The Findcontour algorithm and the Canny algorithm based on Gaussian filtering were used for the diffraction peak points and area detection. The relationship between the distribution of crystal diffraction points (DCDP) and the lattice volumes based on reciprocal lattice theory was established for the users to judge the reasonable location range of the lattice volumes. A Density model was proposed to correlate the dependence of the DCDP and the experimental data. Special crystal samples were chosen to test the CIR performance, and its accuracy for the lattice volume prediction was evaluated. The CIR method can be used for the assistance in the analysis of the lattice volume location range and for crystal structure solving.
