Business performance management (BPM) is an instrument that allows the fulfillment of business objectives and the improvement of competitiveness in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). When BPM is implemented and measured, it can improve the sustainability and competitiveness of the enterprise. Despite its potential benefits, the possibilities of BPM in SMEs are often underestimated due to the lack of resources (mainly personal or financial). The goal of this paper is to introduce a framework for the implementation of BPM in Slovak SMEs based on research on transportation SMEs. To this end, certain steps that support the efficient introduction and use of BPM in these SMEs will be proposed. Our proposal regarding the performance of BPM is based on the findings of previous research studies along with the results of own questionnaire surveys and personal meetings/interviews with owners/managers of transportation SMEs. The results of this research shows that SMEs are generally not familiar with BPM and how the system is used. Essential elements to implement BPM are lacking in SMEs, and although the BPM system might help these firms improve their competitiveness, SMEs remain uniformed about the advantages of BPM. The proposed framework of BPM implementation in this paper can be used to inform SMEs and to assist them in their decisionmaking processes regarding the application of this system.
The output of this work is a comprehensive overview of a wide range of key aspects of security and privacy relevant for the development of smart cities in Slovakia. The work incorporates heterogeneous and complex findings into a corpus of simplified evidence. By employing a systematic review method, this study first outlines key characteristics of a smart city, and then proceeds to summarise opportunities and challenges for conceptualising a model of a smart city in Slovakia. The development of a classification with respect to the different smart city domains, systems and potential threats aims to highlight universally applicable aspects. In order to provide an overview, the paper also presents specific requirements, options, problems, and factors taking into account Slovak policies. This work is based on the proposition that a sustainable and prosperous conceptual model of a smart city is not only linked with technological artefacts and communication infrastructure that enable intelligent management of various governance resources, but is especially tied to the norms, policies, and standards that ensure security and privacy for smart city residents, as their presence and trust in the whole ecosystem is essential for the generation, collection, processing, storage, dissemination, and use of data by respectful technologies. A secure smart city is a cross-disciplinary dilemma, a universal technological challenge built upon context-based policies, standards and procedures. The output of this work is an identification of smart city domains that can become subject to attacks and a stipulation of security requirements that are needed to assure domain functionality. Maintaining meaningful human control as a requirement to mitigate influence activities as well as protect and ensure residential engagement in a smart city was identified and added to the results of the review. Simple communication was highlighted as an effective countermeasure. Applicability of the smart city concept in Slovakia is particularly vulnerable due to the slow pace of implementation and fragmentation of relevant legislation, short development cycle of new techniques of attack, and the lack of expertise and low level of user awareness.
This paper focuses on the testing and evaluation of special anti-chemical protective suits. The testing and evaluation focused on the subjective aspect of the protective suits, which is best perceived by their wearers; however, the subjective aspect only accounts for a certain proportion of the overall evaluation. For this reason, the proposed objective evaluation criteria are also presented in the thesis. Four types of anti-chemical protective suits were selected for testing. In this way, it was possible to compare their design specificities. An older type of civil protection suit and three modern types were selected for evaluation. Multi-criteria decision making and the expert method were used to develop the criteria. Mathematical relationships were used to evaluate the test results. A methodological procedure was developed to integrate the established subjective criteria in order to test. The results of the testing confirmed the construction and design advances of the protective suits over the older type of civil protection suit. At the same time, they pointed out possible shortcomings in the work and execution of the movements of the individual selected protective suits. By evaluating the data obtained, the most suitable protective suit was selected that best met the subjective criteria. However, these results need to be supplemented by an assessment of the objective criteria in the final evaluation. This paper also presents the characteristics of the selected protective suits in terms of technical parameters and objective criteria. The results of the study can further serve as a complementary way of evaluating the quality of protective suits. It is the subjective evaluation that is essential in a comprehensive assessment of the quality of protective suits, as the user himself often perceives the quality of the product differently from the manufacturer.
