Assoc. Prof. Dr. YitSiew Chin is the Head of Community Nutrition Unit, Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and was formerly appointed as the head of the Research Centre of Excellence Nutrition and Non-Communicable Chronic Disease (RCOE-NNCD) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Her field of specialization in community nutrition has prompted research interests that include child and adolescent nutrition and body composition, body image, disordered eating and obesity, nutrition education and promotion, behavioral nutrition, as well as early nutrition and allergic diseases. Her research interests are not limited to general population, but also include special groups such as children living in welfare homes, vegetarians, indigenous families, as well as refugee families. To date, she has led 14 research projects with various publications, including more than 50 scientific citation-indexed journal articles, intervention modules and educational materials, research tools, national guidelines, and books. She serves on the Editorial Boards of both BMC Public Health, and Malaysian Journal of Nutrition. She is the Hon. Secretary of both the Malaysian Society of Body Composition (MSBC) and Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM). She is involved in various research-driven, community-based interventions and national guidelines and in policy development.
