Underwater target tracking system can be kept covert using the bearing-only or the bearing-Doppler measurements (passive measurements), which will reduce the risk of been detected. According to the characteristics of underwater target tracking, the square root unscented Kalman filter (SRUKF) algorithm, which is based on the Bayesian theory, was applied to the underwater bearing-only and bearing-Doppler non-maneuverable target tracking problem. Aiming at the shortcomings of the unscented Kalman filter (UKF), the SRUKF uses the QR decomposition and the Cholesky factor updating, in order to avoid that the process noise covariance matrix loses its positive definiteness during the target tracking period. The SRUKF uses sigma sampling to avoid the linearization of the nonlinear bearing-only and the bearing-Doppler measurements. To ensure the target state observability in underwater target tracking, the paper uses single maneuvering observer to track the single non-maneuverable target. The simulation results show that the SRUKF has better tracking performance than the extended Kalman filter (EKF) and the UKF in tracking accuracy and stability, and the computational complexity of the SRUKF algorithm is low.
Polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image classification is one of the most important study areas for PolSAR image processing. Many kinds of PolSAR features can be extracted for PolSAR image classification, such as the scattering, polarimetric or image features. However, it is difficult to improve the classification accuracy of PolSAR images by using all these low-level features directly, since they may conflict with each other for classification. Hence, how to joint learn these low-level features to obtain high-level discriminating features is a challenging task. To solve this problem, a novel fast multi-feature joint learning method(fMF-JLC) is proposed for PolSAR image classification. The proposed method extract three kinds of low-level features of PolSAR data at first. Then, a multi-feature joint sparse representation model(MF-JSR) is proposed by designing joint sparse constraints on the extracted features above. Moreover, the joint sparse features are further compressed to overcome the dimension curse and acquire semantic features by the topic model. By this way, the low-level features are fused and discriminating high-level features are acquired. However, the pixel-wise feature learning method is time consuming. To speed the proposed method, a superpixel-based fast learning method is designed by involving the contextual relationship. Experiments are taken on three sets of real PolSAR data with different sensors and bands, and several compared methods are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed method can obtain better performance than the state-of-art methods, especially for the heterogenous areas.
Underwater bearings-only multitarget tracking has many advantages, and the probabilistic multiple hypothesis tracking (PMHT) is an elegant algorithm for multitarget tracking problem. However, the basic PMHT has following weakness: 1) the targets’ posterior probability may convergent to the local maximum, which would degrade the tracking accuracy; 2) the tracking performance is sensitive to the targets’ initialization. In order to overcome these weaknesses, this paper proposes a modified PMHT algorithm. The key idea of the modified PMHT algorithm is that it allows the bearings measurements at one scan come from any Gaussian density, which has the same mean and different covariance with the same target. In addition, the modified PMHT algorithm uses the deterministic annealing to reduce the dependence on the targets’ initialization. To deal with the nonlinear bearings measurements, the paper uses the unscented Kalman smoother to update the target states. The simulation treats the cross moving targets and closely spaced targets for both multiple stationary sensors and single maneuvering sensor scenarios in dense clutter environment. The simulation results show the superiority of the modified PMHT algorithm over the basic PMHT algorithm respect to accuracy and robustness for underwater bearings-only multitarget tracking problem when setting a relatively bad initialization value.
The traditional target tracking is a process of estimating the state of a moving target using measurement information obtained by sensors. However, underwater passive acoustic target tracking will confront further challenges, among which the system incomplete observability and time delay caused by the signal propagation create a great impact on tracking performance. Passive acoustic sensors cannot accurately obtain the target range information. The introduction of Doppler frequency measurement can improve the system observability performance; signal time delay cannot be ignored in underwater environments. It varies with time, which has a continuous negative impact on the tracking accuracy. In this paper, the Gauss–Helmert model is introduced to solve this problem by expanding the unknown signal emission time as an unknown variable to the state. This model allows the existence of the previous state and current state at the same time, while handling the implicit equations. To improve the algorithm accuracy, this paper further takes advantage of the estimated state and covariance for the second stage iteration and propose the Gauss–Helmert iterated Unscented Kalman filter under a three-dimensional environment. The simulation shows that the proposed method in this paper shows superior estimation accuracy and more stable performance compared with other filtering algorithms in underwater environments.
Multistatic passive radar exploits illuminators of opportunity such as radio or television stations for tracking airborne targets. This work focuses on broadcast signals in a single frequency network modulated according to the Digital Audio/Video Broadcasting (DAB/DVB) standards. The main challenge is that one has to solve the measurement-to-illuminator association ambiguity in addition to the conventional measurement-to-target association ambiguity, which increases data association complexity greatly. In this work, to solve the additional measurement-to-illuminator data association ambiguity, a novel deterministic annealing probabilistic multi-hypothesis tracker (DA-PMHT) based on the extended Kalman filter is proposed. The proposed algorithm works directly in the original three-dimensional (3-D) Cartesian space, and can efficiently handle a large number of association hypotheses among the targets, measurements, and illuminators in a nature way, also it is computationally attractive. As the angular measurement is not available or often of extremely poor quality, this paper assumes measurements of bistatic range and range rate, and does not process bearing information. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm works reasonably well in dense clutter environment for multistatic passive radar system.
