Many factors, such as population growth in the world, the need for different agricultural products, the lack of sufficient agricultural products, and export potential, create a large amount of lignocellulosic waste every year as a result of agricultural harvest. Cultivating edible mushrooms, which is one of the important areas of the agricultural sector, is a simple, environmentally friendly and biological process carried out without any chemical treatment using lignocellulosic wastes. They are cultured on various local agro-residues and are an important food source with delicious, nutritious, and medicinal values. The present research aimed to evaluate some local agro-wastes for P. djamor “love mushroom-pink oyster mushroom” culture and determine their effects on nutritional properties. Three different compost groups were created: wheat straw (WS), quinoa stalk (QS), and their mixture in a 1:1 ratio. While no significant difference was observed in about spawn colonization days on various agro-residues (p<0.05), it was observed that the best culture medium was quinoa stalk (QS) regarding the primordia formation period (20.3 days), total harvest period (50.0 days), and yield (23.5 g/100 g). Dry P. djamor contains about 89.9–91.4% dry matter, 8.6–10.1% moisture, 250.8–277.5 kcal energy, 22.0–41.2% crude protein, 1.1–1.7% fat, 5.8–9.6% ash, 82.0–84.1% organic matter, and 20.3–38.2% nitrogen-free extract. Protein, carbohydrate, ash, and energy contents differed significantly, with the highest protein content obtained in WS-QS (1:1) (41.2%). Vitamin levels (A, E, C, and MDA) may vary, but the best compost medium for element content is QS. Ni, Cr, Co, and Cd concentrations were also detected below standards. P. djamor is an important nutrient that can be used in a balanced diet, as it contains significant amounts of protein, vitamins, and various nutritional minerals, as well as low fat and energy content. Considering all these features, this species may become a helpful food source in nutrition.

Boron, one of the micronutrients frequently found in low levels in tropical soils affects nutrition and productivity of coconut palm trees essentially cultivated in tropical climates. The objective of this research study was to evaluate the effect of boron on the nutritional status of the plant and its productivity when artificially applied to the culture soil. The experiment was carried out in a four year old, artificially irrigated, dwarf coconut palm orchard in Brazil, between January, 2005 and October, 2006. The soil was a red yellow Latosol (B: 0.18 mg dm(-3)). The treatments consisted in the application of five boron dosages: zero, 1, 2, 4, and 6 kg ha(-1). In the field, the treatments were arranged according to a completely randomized block design, with four replications. Boron (borax) dosages were applied in equal halves directly into the soil in the months of January and February of 2005. Boron concentration in the soil and plant and plant productivity were evaluated. The higher palm tree production was associated to levels of 0.6mg dm(-3) of B in the soil and 23.5mg kg(-1) in leaves. Ninety five percent of palm trees maximum production was obtained with the use of a boron dosage of 2,1kg ha(-1)

Trametes versicolor (L.) Lloyd known as turkey tail, is a medicinal mushroom belonging to the Polyporaceae. Although the consumption and commercial sale of this mushroom in our country is new, it has been used for centuries as a medicine in some countries, especially in China. In this study, it was aimed to determine the antimicrobial and antioxidant effects of ethanol and methanol extracts of T. versicolor. Its antimicrobial effects were determined by disk diffusion and microdilution method using pathogenic microorganisms such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus megaterium, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans and Trichophyton sp. Total antioxidant level, total oxidant level and DPPH radical scavenging capacity were detected for the antioxidant activity of the mushroom. According to the results obtained, it was seen that these extracts inhibit the growth of microorganisms at different rates (10-21 mm) according to the disk diffusion method. The minimal inhibitory concentrations of T. versicolor against microorganisms used were determined to be between 62.5-250 µg/mL. The TAS and TOS values of the methanol extract were 0.72 mmol Trolox Equiv./L and 18.39, respectively, the TAS and TOS values of the ethanol extract were detected 0.88 mmol Trolox Equiv./L and 16.71 μmol H2O2 Equiv./L, respectively.
