In this study, a dynamically tunable terahertz device based on a VO2–graphene hybrid metasurface is proposed, which realizes the dual functions of ultra-wideband absorption and efficient transmission through VO2 phase transformation. At 345 K (metallic state), the device attains an absorption efficiency exceeding 90% (average 97.06%) in the range of 2.25–6.07 THz (bandwidth 3.82 THz), showing excellent absorption performance. At 318 K (insulated state), the device achieves 67.66–69.51% transmittance in the 0.1–2.14 THz and 7.51–10 THz bands while maintaining a broadband absorption of 3.6–5.08 THz (an average of 81.99%). Compared with traditional devices, the design breaks through the performance limitations by integrating phase change material control with 2D materials. The patterned graphene design simplifies the fabrication process. System analysis reveals that the device is polarization-insensitive and tunable via graphene Fermi energy and relaxation time. The device’s excellent temperature response and wide angular stability provide a novel solution for terahertz switching, stealth technology, and sensing applications.

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that significantly impacts the quality of life of patients and their families. Neuroimaging-driven brain age prediction has been proposed as a potential biomarker to detect mental disorders, such as AD, aiding in studying its effects on functional brain networks. Previous studies have shown that individuals with AD display impaired resting-state functional connections. However, most studies on brain age prediction have used structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with limited studies based on resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI).Methods: In this study, we applied a graph neural network (GNN) model on controls to predict brain ages using rs-fMRI in patients with AD. We compared the performance of the GNN model with traditional machine learning models. Finally, the post hoc model was also used to identify the critical brain regions in AD.Results: The experimental results demonstrate that our GNN model can predict brain ages of normal controls using rs-fMRI data from the ADNI database. Moreover the differences between brain ages and chronological ages were more significant in AD patients than in normal controls. Our results also suggest that AD is associated with accelerated brain aging and that the GNN model based on resting-state functional connectivity is an effective tool for predicting brain age.Discussion: Our study provides evidence that rs-fMRI is a promising modality for brain age prediction in AD research, and the GNN model proves to be effective in predicting brain age. Furthermore, the effects of the hippocampus, parahippocampal gyrus, and amygdala on brain age prediction are verified.

Presently, it is still challenging to obtain satisfied identification results for long-distance safety monitoring with fiber distributed acoustic sensor (DAS) in practical complicated burying environments. Thus, extracting increasingly abundant features has always been the direction of DAS signal recognition. This paper proposes a new recognition method using an end-to-end mCNN-HMM combined model, which can identify the vibration sources more correctly by simultaneously extracting multi-scale structural features and the sequential information of the DAS signals. A modified multi-scale convolution neural network (mCNN) is designed to automatically extract the DAS signals' local structural features from a multilevel perspective and their relationship in the proposed model. A hidden Markov model (HMM) is then used to mine the sequential information of the whole sample's previously extracted features. The test results based on real field data show that it outperforms the HMM model with the all-around hand-crafted features, the CNN-HMM model, and the MS-CNN-HMM model in both the feature extraction ability and the recognition accuracy in the case of little increase in time consumption. Moreover, the Euclidean distance between the posterior probabilities classified correctly and incorrectly is proposed to evaluate the test samples' feature distinguishability for different recognition models. Then the feature extraction capabilities of the models can be measured in an objective parameter.

3D object detection has become an emerging task in autonomous driving scenarios. Most of previous works process 3D point clouds using either projection-based or voxel-based models. However, both approaches contain some drawbacks. The voxel-based methods lack semantic information, while the projection-based methods suffer from numerous spatial information loss when projected to different views. In this paper, we propose the Stereo RGB and Deeper LIDAR (SRDL) framework which can utilize semantic and spatial information simultaneously such that the performance of network for 3D object detection can be improved naturally. Specifically, the network generates candidate boxes from stereo pairs and combines different region-wise features using a deep fusion scheme. The stereo strategy offers more information for prediction compared with prior works. Then, several local and global feature extractors are stacked in the segmentation module to capture richer deep semantic geometric features from point clouds. After aligning the interior points with fused features, the proposed network refines the prediction in a more accurate manner and encodes the whole box in a novel compact method. The decent experimental results on the challenging KITTI detection benchmark demonstrate the effectiveness of utilizing both stereo images and point clouds for 3D object detection.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a range of neurodevelopmental disorders, which brings enormous burdens to the families of patients and society. However, due to the lack of representation of variance for diseases and the absence of biomarkers for diagnosis, the early detection and intervention of ASD are remarkably challenging. In this study, we proposed a self-attention deep learning framework based on the transformer model on structural MR images from the ABIDE consortium to classify ASD patients from normal controls and simultaneously identify the structural biomarkers. In our work, the individual structural covariance networks are used to perform ASD/NC classification via a self-attention deep learning framework, instead of the original structural MR data, to take full advantage of the coordination patterns of morphological features between brain regions. The self-attention deep learning framework based on the transformer model can extract both local and global information from the input data, making it more suitable for the brain network data than the CNN- structural model. Meanwhile, the potential diagnosis structural biomarkers are identified by the self-attention coefficients map. The experimental results showed that our proposed method outperforms most of the current methods for classifying ASD patients with the ABIDE data and achieves a classification accuracy of 72.5% across different sites. Furthermore, the potential diagnosis biomarkers were found mainly located in the prefrontal cortex, temporal cortex, and cerebellum, which may be treated as the early biomarkers for the ASD diagnosis. Our study demonstrated that the self-attention deep learning framework is an effective way to diagnose ASD and establish the potential biomarkers for ASD.
