Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia globally. It steadily worsens from mild to severe, impairing one’s ability to complete any work without assistance. It begins to outstrip due to the population ages and diagnosis timeline. For classifying cases, existing approaches incorporate medical history, neuropsychological testing, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), but efficient procedures remain inconsistent due to lack of sensitivity and precision. The Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is utilized to create a framework that can be used to detect specific Alzheimer’s disease characteristics from MRI images. By considering four stages of dementia and conducting a particular diagnosis, the proposed model generates high-resolution disease probability maps from the local brain structure to a multilayer perceptron and provides accurate, intuitive visualizations of individual Alzheimer’s disease risk. To avoid the problem of class imbalance, the samples should be evenly distributed among the classes. The obtained MRI image dataset from Kaggle has a major class imbalance problem. A DEMentia NETwork (DEMNET) is proposed to detect the dementia stages from MRI. The DEMNET achieves an accuracy of 95.23%, Area Under Curve (AUC) of 97% and Cohen’s Kappa value of 0.93 from the Kaggle dataset, which is superior to existing methods. We also used the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) dataset to predict AD classes in order to assess the efficacy of the proposed model.

Quantum-inspired differential evolution (QDE) is an evolutionary algorithm, which can effectively solve complex optimization problems. However, sometimes, it easily leads to premature convergence and low search ability and falls to local optima. To overcome these problems, based on the MSIQDE (improved QDE with multistrategies) algorithm, an enhanced MSIQDE algorithm based on mixing multiple strategies, namely, EMMSIQDE is proposed in this article. In the EMMSIQDE, a new differential mutation strategy of a difference vector is proposed to enhance the search ability and descent ability. Then, a new multipopulation mutation evolution mechanism is designed to ensure the relative independence of each subpopulation and the population diversity. The feasible solution space transformation strategy is used to achieve the optimal solution by mapping the quantum chromosome from a unit space to solution space. Finally, some multidimensional unimodal and multimodal functions are selected to demonstrate the optimization performance of EMMSIQDE. The results demonstrate that the EMMSIQDE is significantly better than the DE, QDE, QGA, and MSIQDE, and has better optimization ability, scalability, efficiency, and stability.

The “curse of dimensionality” and the high computational cost have still limited the application of the evolutionary algorithm in high-dimensional feature selection (FS) problems. This article proposes a new three-phase hybrid FS algorithm based on correlation-guided clustering and particle swarm optimization (PSO) (HFS-C-P) to tackle the above two problems at the same time. To this end, three kinds of FS methods are effectively integrated into the proposed algorithm based on their respective advantages. In the first and second phases, a filter FS method and a feature clustering-based method with low computational cost are designed to reduce the search space used by the third phase. After that, the third phase applies oneself to finding an optimal feature subset by using an evolutionary algorithm with the global searchability. Moreover, a symmetric uncertainty-based feature deletion method, a fast correlation-guided feature clustering strategy, and an improved integer PSO are developed to improve the performance of the three phases, respectively. Finally, the proposed algorithm is validated on 18 publicly available real-world datasets in comparison with nine FS algorithms. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can obtain a good feature subset with the lowest computational cost.

The rapid growth of Internet users led to unwanted cyber issues, including cyberbullying, hate speech, and many more. This article deals with the problems of hate speech on Twitter. Hate speech appears to be an inflammatory kind of interaction process that uses misconceptions to express a hate ideology. The hate speech focuses on various protected aspects, including gender, religion, race, and disability. Owing to hate speech, sometimes unwanted crimes are going to happen as someone or a group of people get disheartened. Hence, it is essential to monitor user’s posts and filter the hate speech related post before it is spread. However, Twitter receives more than six hundred tweets per second and about 500 million tweets per day. Manually filtering any information from such a huge incoming traffic is almost impossible. Concerning to this aspect, an automated system is developed using the Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN). The proposed DCNN model utilises the tweet text with GloVe embedding vector to capture the tweets’ semantics with the help of convolution operation and achieved the precision, recall and F1-score value as 0.97, 0.88, 0.92 respectively for the best case and outperformed the existing models.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) play an important role in conducting automatic patrol inspections of cities, which can ensure the safety of urban residents’ life and property and the normal operation of cities. However, during the inspection process, problems may arise. For example, numerous small objects in UAV images are difficult to detect, objects in UAV images are severely occluded and requirements for real-time performances are posed. To address these issues, we first propose a real-time object detection network (RTD-Net) for UAV images. Besides, to deal with the lack of visual features of small objects, we design a feature fusion module (FFM) to interact and fuse features at different levels and improve the feature expression ability of small objects. To achieve real-time detection, we design a lightweight feature extraction module (LEM) to build the backbone network to control the calculation quantity and parameters. To solve the issue of discontinuous features of occluded objects, an efficient convolutional Transformer block (ECTB) based convolutional multi-head self-attention (CMHSA) is designed to improve the recognition ability of occluded objects by extracting the context information of objects. Compared with multi-head self-attention (MHSA) in the traditional transformer, CMHSA uses convolutional projection to replace the position-linear projection, which can reduce a large amount of calculation without performance loss. Finally, an attention prediction head (APH) is designed based on the attention mechanism to improve the ability of the model to extract attention regions in complex scenarios. The proposed method reaches a detection accuracy of 86.4% mAP in our UAV image dataset. In addition, it achieves a detection accuracy of 86.0%mAP and a detection speed of 33.4 FPS in NVIDIA Jeston TX2 embedded device.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is used in homes and hospitals and deployed outdoors to control and report environmental changes, prevent fires, and perform many more beneficial functions. However, all these benefits come at the tremendous risk of loss of privacy and security issues. To protect the IoT, much research has been carried out to address these risks and find better ways to eliminate them or at least minimize their impact on user privacy and security requirements. This article expounds various network security risks faced by the IoT, analyzes their impacts, discusses risk assessment methods, shows the causes and hazards of these threats, and proposes an overall framework of privacy security protection.
