Food safety is a complex issue that involves stakeholders in its handling. The point of food safety is growing widely and is becoming a concern in the community because it is related to the quality of consumers' good health and well-being. The community service activities based on quality education focused on Good Processed Food Manufacturing Practices (CPPOB), safe use of Food Additives (BTP), and consideration of packaging selection that ensures food safety. Education is carried out to increase the understanding of SMEs actors regarding regulations of CPPOB, the use of BTP, and provisions on Food Packaging. The education process is carried out online using the Zoom Meeting platform. Learning activity is carried out in one direction through lectures and questions and answers sessions. The increase in participants' understanding was measured by comparing the distribution of average scores, pretest, and post-test statistical tests. The effectiveness and quality of the educational process were measured using an evaluation questionnaire with predetermined indicators. The education carried out related to CPPOB, the use of BTP, and the selection of food packaging performed by the community service team of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga to SMEs in Balikpapan has proven to increase the understanding of business actors. The epidemiology of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) continues to exhibit an increasing trend annually. The use of synthetic drugs in treating ED often leads to undesirable side effects and has limited efficacy. In Indonesia, several indigenous plants have been empirically utilized for ED remediation. This study aims to identify the latest scientific evidence on the potential of native Indonesian medicinal plants for ED treatment and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms using a systematic review and Pharmacological Network approach. There are 12 potential plants most commonly used by ethnic groups in Indonesia to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) as reviewed in this study. A systematic review search was conducted across three databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Springer) without limiting the publication years. Article screening was performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) flowchart. Determination of compound target genes was carried out using GeneCards, while disease target genes were analyzed using DisGeNET. Network topology was explored with Cytoscape 3.10, and the construction of Protein-Protein Interaction Networks was realized using STRING version 12.0. GO and KEGG analyses were subsequently conducted with SRplot. The systematic review findings indicated that 12 articles met the predefined inclusion criteria. The pharmacology network analysis demonstrated that the compounds present in Eurycoma longifolia, specifically stigmasterol, eurycomanone, and eurycomalactone, target 13 genes associated with erectile dysfunction (ED), which include BCL2, AKT1, SOAT1, PCSK9, ACHE, BDNF-AS, TMX2-CTNND1, GSK3B, LINCO1672, TP53, H19, HIF1A, and IL1B. These target genes are connected to the biological mechanisms underlying steroid hormone biosynthesis, which is essential for the formation of testosterone. Therefore, Eurycoma longifolia demonstrates significant potential for development as a promising phytopharmaceutical candidate in the treatment of sexual dysfunction.

Numerous studies have documented the potential of coffee to aid in asthma prevention. Nevertheless, research into how coffee influences asthma management has not been available. One known mechanism by which asthma medications work involves inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) activity. This study aims to determine the potency of Coffea canephora var. Robusta extract (CRE), Coffea arabica extract (CAE), and caffeine are the primary isolates against 5-LOX activity. Extraction was performed by a reflux procedure using 96% ethanol with a sample-total solvent ratio of 1 : 10, an extraction time of 1 hour, and the extraction was conducted in triplicate. Fractionation was carried out by liquid-liquid partition using a chloroform-water system. Caffeine further purification was performed by the sublimation method, and the inhibition of 5-LOX activity was evaluated using the spectrophotometric method at λ = 234 nm. Apigenin was used as a positive control. From the experiment conducted, the IC50 of the CRE, CAE, caffeine, and apigenin against 5-LOX was 32.2 ± 1.4, 42.1 ± 2.3, 14.3 ± 1.6, and 7.4 ± 1.7 µg/mL, respectively. Continued efforts to isolate bioactive compounds from coffee extract led to the discovery of caffeine, which exhibited a more potent inhibitory effect on 5-LOX. The inhibition of 5-LOX activity by caffeine occurs in a non-competitive manner.

This service activity is motivated by efforts to maintain health after the Covid-19 pandemic. The community carries out preventive efforts by providing stocks of their medicines at home. The culture of storing medicines in the household requires proper drug management to prevent drug damage due to improper storage, drug use errors, and environmental pollution due to errors in handling damaged or expired drugs. The pharmacist's role is vital in providing drug management education to the community. Another preventive effort undertaken by the community is to maintain a healthy body by applying a diet where fast food currently contains a lot of Food Additives (BTP), which can threaten long-term public health. For this reason, people need to get an education directly, so they are wise in using BTP. The solution is to educate the public regarding managing household medicines and healthy food for parents and guardians of RA Al Manshur Play Group (KB) students in Bojonegoro. Activities are packaged in counseling methods and training/practice activities. The expected outcome of the activity is an increase in the understanding of guardian parents, as indicated by an average post-test score of >65 with an increase in score of >10% compared to the pretest. By increasing the understanding of parents and teachers about managing medicines and healthy food in the family, it is hoped that conditions of good health and well-being in society will be achieved.

Context: The Javanese culture includes the consumption of traditional herbal medicine known as jamu. One commonly consumed type of jamu to enhance physical fitness and alleviate fatigue is Beras Kencur, which contains the kencur (Kaempferia galanga) rhizome. Although it has been used for generations, scientific testing on the effects of K. galanga as an anti-fatigue agent remains rare. Aims: To assess the anti-fatigue effects of K. galanga rhizome extract (KGE) through an endurance swimming test conducted on male Wistar rats. Methods: This study involved 30 Wistar rats randomly allocated into 5 groups: a negative control group administered with syrup vehicle, a positive control group receiving 9 mg/kg body weight (BW) of caffeine syrup, and three treatment groups receiving KGE syrup at different doses - dose 1 (37 mg/kg BW), dose 2 (73.5 mg/kg BW), and dose 3 (147 mg/kg BW). The anti-fatigue effect was evaluated based on the duration of struggling in the water in the endurance swimming test. Results: The results demonstrated that the treatment groups exhibited a significant anti-fatigue effect compared to the negative control group. The administration of a syrup formulation containing KGE at doses 1 (37 mg/kg BW), 2 (73.5 mg/kg BW), and 3 (147 mg/kg BW) revealed an anti-fatigue effect on male Wistar rats. Conclusions: The administration of K. galanga demonstrated dose-dependent anti-fatigue activity in rats. The most effective dose was found to be 147 mg/kg body weight in rats.

Global health issues have become increasingly urgent following the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in approximately 6.6 million deaths by 2022. This impact has prompted communities to revert to traditional medicines, aligning with the National Development Planning System (RPJPN) 2005-2025, which promotes a health paradigm through traditional remedies. Community service activities were carried out in partnership with the Ngudi Makmur Farmer Group (POKTAN) in Dlingo Village, Bantul Regency. The primary objective of this activity was to enhance residents’ knowledge in Dlingo Village regarding the benefits and processing of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA). The methods employed included material development, counseling sessions, question-and-answer discussions, and direct practical training in the preparation of aromatherapy candles. Evaluation was undertaken using pretests and posttests, which demonstrated a significant increase in participants’ understanding. The average scores rose from 81.67 (pretest) to 132.5 (posttest), with a statistically significant difference (p <0.001). These findings indicate that the counseling was effective in improving knowledge about TOGA and its utilization in producing aromatherapy candles. Such activities not only enhance awareness but also reinforce community autonomy in managing traditional medicinal resources, in line with the health-related objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
