In the 6G era, Space-Air-Ground Integrated Networks (SAGINs) can provide ubiquitous coverage for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) and blockchain are two enabling technologies, which can further enhance the services capabilities of SAGINs, where MEC demonstrates a notable capability in efficiently minimizing both task execution delays and system energy consumption, and blockchain can provide trust guarantee for task offloading and wireless data transmission among entities operated by different operators in SAGIN. In this paper, we present an MEC and blockchain enabled SAGIN architecture, which consists of two sub-systems. In the MEC sub-system, a satellite and multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) act as edge nodes to provide IoT devices with computing power. Moreover, the satellite serves as the block generator and the client, and the UAVs serve as consensus nodes of the blockchain sub-system. We intend to minimize the energy consumption within the network, which is achieved through the IoT devices’ task segmentation, the UAVs and satellite’s band-width allocation among their served IoT devices. And moreover, the computing power of UAVs and the satellite also allocated in task processing and blockchain consensus. Considering the high dynamics of the network, it is impossible to obtain real-time and accurate channel information, so we re-model this problem as a Markov decision process, and propose a low-complexity adaptive optimization algorithm based on Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG). Our simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm exhibits commendable performance in minimizing network energy consumption and DDPG agent’s accumulated reward maximization.

Noting the shortcomings of current methods in detecting small objects in image-based remote sensing applications, in this paper, we propose a novel implementation of single shot multibox detector (SSD) networks based on dilated convolution and feature fusion. We call this algorithm dilated convolution and feature fusion single shot multibox detector (DFSSD). This algorithm removes the random clipping steps of data preprocessing layers in conventional SSD networks and utilizes the structure of feature pyramid network (FPN) network to fuse the low-level feature map with high resolution and the high-level feature map with rich semantic information. It also enhances the receptive field of the third-level feature map of the DFSSD network by using dilated convolution. In the data processing step of the model, we use the image segmentation of the feature point region proposals to improve the training sample size. The mean average precision (mAP) value of the proposed DFSSD network, when tested on remote sensing datasets, achieves 76.51%, which is significantly higher than that of the SSD model (69.81%).

In remote sensing images, small objects have too few discriminative features, are easily confused with background information, and are difficult to locate, leading to a degradation in detection accuracy when using general object detection networks for aerial images. To solve the above problems, we propose a remote sensing small object detection network based on the attention mechanism and multi-scale feature fusion, and name it AMMFN. Firstly, a detection head enhancement module (DHEM) was designed to strengthen the characterization of small object features through a combination of multi-scale feature fusion and attention mechanisms. Secondly, an attention mechanism based channel cascade (AMCC) module was designed to reduce the redundant information in the feature layer and protect small objects from information loss during feature fusion. Then, the Normalized Wasserstein Distance (NWD) was introduced and combined with Generalized Intersection over Union (GIoU) as the location regression loss function to improve the optimization weight of the model for small objects and the accuracy of the regression boxes. Finally, an object detection layer was added to improve the object feature extraction ability at different scales. Experimental results from the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) dataset VisDrone2021 and the homemade dataset show that the AMMFN improves the APs values by 2.4% and 3.2%, respectively, compared with YOLOv5s, which represents an effective improvement in the detection accuracy of small objects.

Current networking protocols deem inefficient in accommodating the two key challenges of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) networks, namely the network connectivity loss and energy limitations. One approach to solve these issues is using learning-based routing protocols to make close-to-optimal local decisions by the network nodes, and Q-routing is a bold example of such protocols. However, the performance of the current implementations of Q-routing algorithms is not yet satisfactory, mainly due to the lack of adaptability to continued topology changes. In this paper, we propose a full-echo Q-routing algorithm with a self-adaptive learning rate that utilizes Simulated Annealing (SA) optimization to control the exploration rate of the algorithm through the temperature decline rate, which in turn is regulated by the experienced variation rate of the Q-values. Our results show that our method adapts to the network dynamicity without the need for manual re-initialization at transition points (abrupt network topology changes). Our method exhibits a reduction in the energy consumption ranging from 7% up to 82%, as well as a 2.6 fold gain in successful packet delivery rate, compared to the state of the art Q-routing protocols.

Vehicular mobile edge computing (vMEC) and nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) have emerged as promising technologies for enabling low-latency and high-throughput applications in vehicular networks. In this article, we propose a novel multiagent deep deterministic policy gradient (MADDPG) approach for resource allocation in NOMA-based vMEC systems. Our approach leverages deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to enable vehicles to offload computation-intensive tasks to nearby edge servers, optimizing resource allocation decisions while ensuring low-latency communication. We introduce an attention mechanism within the MADDPG model to dynamically focus on relevant information from the input state and joint actions, enhancing the model’s predictive accuracy. Additionally, we propose an attention-based experience replay method to expedite network convergence. The simulation results highlight the effectiveness of multiagent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms, such as MADDPG with attention, in achieving better convergence and performance in various scenarios. The influence of different model parameters, such as input data volumes, task load levels, and resource configurations, on optimization results is also evident. The decision making processes of agents are dynamic and depend on factors specific to the task and environment.

With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, there is an escalating demand for enhanced computing and communication capabilities. Mobile edge computing (MEC) addresses this need by relocating computing resources to the network edge, thereby delivering swifter and more efficient services. This article introduces a computation offloading and energy consumption optimization framework that leverages Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs), and MEC. The scheme aims to maximize energy efficiency through the optimization of task allocation, RIS phase shifts, and UAV trajectories. By employing the Multiagent twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (MATD3) reinforcement learning algorithm, this article further refines UAV trajectories and RIS configurations. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method surpasses the traditional Concave-convex procedure (CCCP) algorithm in both UAV trajectory control and RIS configuration, demonstrating quicker convergence and enhanced stability. The method proves to be adaptable to diverse environments and tasks, showcasing notable benefits in RIS-assisted interference suppression, particularly with large RIS, thereby enhancing UAV data reception rates. Additionally, MATD3 exhibits faster and smoother convergence for extended task durations and smaller RIS scenarios. Simulation results reveal that UAVs tend to move closer to RIS, with energy efficiency falling as IoT tasks increase, affirming the proposed algorithm’s high energy efficiency and effectiveness.
