Elena Zocchi graduated from the University of Genova (Italy) Medical School in 1983; she obtained a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Pavia (Italy) in 1989, and since 2004 she has been a full Professor of Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Genova Medical School. Her studies on the role of the plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) in the physiology of lower Metazoa (sponges and hydroids) have been instrumental in her discovery that ABA is a new endogenous hormone in humans and in the identification of its receptors and its signaling pathway. https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=7003441674
