Dr Hom Nath Dhakal is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Portsmouth. He leads the Advanced Polymers and Composites (APC) Research Group within the School of Mechanical and Design Engineering. He is also a docent (visiting) professor of biobased composite materials at the Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business at the University of Borås, Sweden. His research interests and expertise areas include the development of sustainable bio-based lightweight composite materials and hybrid composites and the investigation of their mechanical, thermal and environmental properties for advanced engineering applications, which include the automotive, marine, aerospace, building, and construction industries. Prof. Dhakal is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a member of the American Society for Composites (ASC); and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA); the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET); and the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IOM3) (FIMMM). Professor Dhakal is an Associate Editor of Heliyon (Cell Press/Elsevier) in the materials section. He is an editorial board member of Composites Part C: Open Access—an Elsevier journal; Journal of Composite Science; and Journal of Molecules, among others. He has 5,948 citations with an h-index of 40, and an i10-Index of 85 (as of 18/02/2023, Google Scholar).
