Prof. Dr. Rafael Gavara studied Chemistry, specializing in Polymer Chemistry, at the University of Valencia (Spain), where he obtained his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees. Since 1991, he has been employed at the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology of the Higher Council for Scientific Research, where he currently holds the positions of Research Professor and Head of the Packaging Group. His area of expertise is food packaging materials, food–package interactions, and food-packaging technologies, especially active and intelligent packaging systems. As a researcher, he has participated in various competitive R&D projects funded by public institutions (at EU, national, and local levels), as well as in more specific projects funded by private companies. Currently, he regularly teaches postgraduate, Master's, and Doctorate courses at the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, with food packaging systems being his main area of specialization.
