The weight of gears is an important issue for high performance of the machine elements. Thus, the design of the gear pairs with respect to the minimum weight is an important and attractive subject to study. Various analytical and heuristic approaches were utilized to optimize the weight of gears in previous studies. In this study, the problem of gear optimization as per the minimum weight was solved with Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO). GWO is a meta-heuristic optimization method that stands out with its successful performance in engineering applications. In this study, the performance of GWO was investigated in the case of constituting a spur gear with respect to minimum weight for the first time. Compared with the previous studies, the results obtained in the study show that it is possible to design a lighter gear with GWO.
The design of gears with a minimum weight is an optimization problem that has been widely discussed in the literature. Various recent metaheuristic optimization methods, along with the conventional methods, have produced successful results for design optimization problems. In this study, a comprehensive investigation was conducted into the solution of the spur gear design problem in metaheuristic optimization methods. The artificial algae algorithm, artificial bee colony and whale optimization algorithm were applied to the problem for the first time. The grey wolf optimizer and particle swarm optimization were also applied. The results were compared with the performance of the genetic algorithm, simulating annealing and particle swarm optimization, applied in previous studies. A statistical evaluation of these methods applied under the same conditions was carried out in terms of stability. It was shown that the new methods demonstrated significantly improved performance in solving the gear design problem compared to existing methods.
The need for precise mechanical and tribological properties of the hydrostatic bearings has made them an interesting study topic for optimisation studies. In this paper, power-loss minimization problems of hydrostatic thrust bearings were solved through Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO). Grey Wolf Optimizer is a meta-heuristic optimization method standing out with its successful applications in engineering design problems. Power-loss minimization problem of hydrostatic thrust bearings was applied on Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) for the first time. The results obtained were evaluated together with the previous studies conducted and a detailed comparison was made. The most significant innovation of the study is the innovation made in the mathematical model of the GWO. A new model (Enhanced GWO, EGWO) that increases the variety of valid solutions is proposed. The comparisons made both with GWO and other studies in the literature show that EGWO got the known best fitness value with the highest success rate. The consistency and statistical performance of the EGWO show that this method can be used in the optimization of machine elements.
Emotion classification is a research field that aims to detect the emotions in a text using machine learning methods. In traditional machine learning (TML) methods, feature engineering processes cause the loss of some meaningful information, and classification performance is negatively affected. In addition, the success of modelling using deep learning (DL) approaches depends on the sample size. More samples are needed for Turkish due to the unique characteristics of the language. However, emotion classification data sets in Turkish are quite limited. In this study, the pretrained language model approach was used to create a stronger emotion classification model for Turkish. Well-known pretrained language models were fine-tuned for this purpose. The performances of these fine-tuned models for Turkish emotion classification were comprehensively compared with the performances of TML and DL methods in experimental studies. The proposed approach provides state-of-the-art performance for Turkish emotion classification.
The widespread use of social networks has caused these platforms to become the target of malicious people. Although social networks have their own spam detection systems, these systems sometimes may not prevent spams in their social networks. Spam contents and messages threaten the security and performance of users of these networks. A spam account detection framework based on three components is proposed in this study. Short link analysis, machine learning and text analysis are the components used together in the proposed framework. First, a dataset was created for this purpose and the attributes of spam accounts were determined. Later, the hyperlinks in the messages in this dataset were analyzed through link analysis component. The machine learning component was modelled through attributes. Moreover, the messages of the social network users were analyzed through text analysis method. A web-based application of the proposed model was put into practice. As a result of the experimental studies carried out thanks to the framework, it was determined that the proposed framework showed a performance of 95.69 %. The success of this article was calculated according to the F-measure and precision evaluation metrics under the influence of sensitive content rate. It is aimed to detect spam accounts on social network and the spam detection policy of these networks is intended to support.
Data Clustering stands for a group of methods classifying patterns into groups and retrieving similarities or dissimilarities of a collection of objects. Clustering is used for pattern recognition, machine learning, etc. One of the approaches to clustering is optimization. The aim of the optimization is finding the best solution in the search space of a problem as much as possible. Many optimization methods were modified to solve clustering problems in literature. Gray Wolf Optimizer (GWO) is one of the nature-inspired meta-heuristic algorithms simulating the hunting of gray wolves. GWO has applied to solve several optimization issues in different fields. In this study, GWO was examined in the case of data clustering. GWO was modified to get better clustering results and applied to well-known benchmark data sets. The performance of GWO was compared to the other algorithms used as clustering. The results show that GWO can be used for data clustering successfully.
