Shearers play an important role in fully mechanized coal mining face and accurately identifying their cutting pattern is very helpful for improving the automation level of shearers and ensuring the safety of coal mining. The least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) has been proven to offer strong potential in prediction and classification issues, particularly by employing an appropriate meta-heuristic algorithm to determine the values of its two parameters. However, these meta-heuristic algorithms have the drawbacks of being hard to understand and reaching the global optimal solution slowly. In this paper, an improved fly optimization algorithm (IFOA) to optimize the parameters of LSSVM was presented and the LSSVM coupled with IFOA (IFOA-LSSVM) was used to identify the shearer cutting pattern. The vibration acceleration signals of five cutting patterns were collected and the special state features were extracted based on the ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and the kernel function. Some examples on the IFOA-LSSVM model were further presented and the results were compared with LSSVM, PSO-LSSVM, GA-LSSVM and FOA-LSSVM models in detail. The comparison results indicate that the proposed approach was feasible, efficient and outperformed the others. Finally, an industrial application example at the coal mining face was demonstrated to specify the effect of the proposed system.
As the sound signal of a machine contains abundant information and is easy to measure, acoustic-based monitoring or diagnosis systems exhibit obvious superiority, especially in some extreme conditions. However, the sound directly collected from industrial field is always polluted. In order to eliminate noise components from machinery sound, a wavelet threshold denoising method optimized by an improved fruit fly optimization algorithm (WTD-IFOA) is proposed in this paper. The sound is firstly decomposed by wavelet transform (WT) to obtain coefficients of each level. As the wavelet threshold functions proposed by Donoho were discontinuous, many modified functions with continuous first and second order derivative were presented to realize adaptively denoising. However, the function-based denoising process is time-consuming and it is difficult to find optimal thresholds. To overcome these problems, fruit fly optimization algorithm (FOA) was introduced to the process. Moreover, to avoid falling into local extremes, an improved fly distance range obeying normal distribution was proposed on the basis of original FOA. Then, sound signal of a motor was recorded in a soundproof laboratory, and Gauss white noise was added into the signal. The simulation results illustrated the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach by a comprehensive comparison among five typical methods. Finally, an industrial application on a shearer in coal mining working face was performed to demonstrate the practical effect.

Coal–rock recognition is a key technology to realize intelligent shearer and a prerequisite for achieving safe and efficient production in coal mining working face. Based on the analysis of the characteristics and defects of the current recognition methods, this article proposes a novel coal–rock recognition method based on laser scanning technology. First, a coal–rock point cloud data simplification method is designed based on feature points preserving. The purpose is to retain abundant information of coal–rock characteristics and simultaneously meet the requirements of simplicity and precision. Then, an improved ant colony optimization (IACO) algorithm is presented by the two strategies to enhance the optimization efficiency and search ability. The strategies are implemented by adaptively adjusting the pheromone volatilization coefficient and the update step of ant colony position. The IACO is combined with the 2-D OTSU (IACO-TOTSU) to determine the optimal intensity threshold of coal–rock point cloud data, which is utilized to consummate the growth rule of the region growing (RG) algorithm. Meanwhile, the initial seed point of RG is optimized through the curvature calculation of each point and an improved region growing algorithm (IACO-TOTSU-RG) is then performed to achieve the segmentation and recognition of coal–rock point cloud data. Experimental test results indicate that the proposed coal–rock recognition method outperforms others and the coal–rock recognition accuracy can reach above 90%. Finally, an industrial application is provided to prove the practicability and feasibility of the proposed method.
In order to efficiently and accurately identify the cutting condition of a shearer, this paper proposed an intelligent multi-sensor data fusion identification method using the parallel quasi-Newton neural network (PQN-NN) and the Dempster-Shafer (DS) theory. The vibration acceleration signals and current signal of six cutting conditions were collected from a self-designed experimental system and some special state features were extracted from the intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) based on the ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD). In the experiment, three classifiers were trained and tested by the selected features of the measured data, and the DS theory was used to combine the identification results of three single classifiers. Furthermore, some comparisons with other methods were carried out. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method performs with higher detection accuracy and credibility than the competing algorithms. Finally, an industrial application example in the fully mechanized coal mining face was demonstrated to specify the effect of the proposed system.
Surveillance videos of coal mining faces have close relation to the safety of coal miners and mining efficiency. However, surveillance videos are always disturbed by some severe conditions such as atomization, low illumination, glare, and so on. Therefore, this paper proposed a hybrid algorithm (SSR-BF) based on the integration of single-scale Retinex (SSR) and bilateral filtering (BF) to enhance the image quality of surveillance videos. BF was coupled with SSR to reduce the noises and perfect the edge information in the image. The schematic diagram and pseudocode of SSR-BF was designed, and the parameters were set rationally to ensure the enhancement effects through some simulations. Finally, some comparisons with other methods were carried out, and the simulation results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm was superior to others and could be applied to image enhancement for poormonochrome images, especially the surveillance video of a coal mining face.
In order to improve the performance of the hydraulic support electro-hydraulic control system test platform, a self-tuning proportion integration differentiation (PID) controller is proposed to imitate the actual pressure of the hydraulic support. To avoid the premature convergence and to improve the convergence velocity for tuning PID parameters, the PID controller is optimized with a hybrid optimization algorithm integrated with the particle swarm algorithm (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA). A selection probability and an adaptive cross probability are introduced into the PSO to enhance the diversity of particles. The proportional overflow valve is installed to control the pressure of the pillar cylinder. The data of the control voltage of the proportional relief valve amplifier and pillar pressure are collected to acquire the system transfer function. Several simulations with different methods are performed on the hydraulic cylinder pressure system. The results demonstrate that the hybrid algorithm for a PID controller has comparatively better global search ability and faster convergence velocity on the pressure control of the hydraulic cylinder. Finally, an experiment is conducted to verify the validity of the proposed method.
