Maria Maddalena Calabretta is a Junior Assistant Professor in Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry (University of Bologna). Her scientific activity involves the development of portable biosensing devices, relying on bioluminescence, enzymatic and whole-cell biosensors for the on-site, multiplexed analysis and development of ultrasensitive analytical methods applied to biomedical and pharmaceutical screening, environmental monitoring and food. She is the co-author of 39 papers in the fields of biosensors and analytical and bioanalytical chemistry, and she has participated in several projects funded by the PRIMA Partnership, NATO-SPS, the EU, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and MIUR.
