The aim of this study was to examine the characteristics of patients admitted to our hospital with a diagnosis of breast cancer who reached pathological complete response after being operated following eight cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Between 2015-2020, patients with pathological complete response who were operated on after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and sent to our clinic for radiotherapy were evaluated. The median age of the patients was 51 years. The most common histological type was invasive ductal cancer. The number of pathological complete response patients was 74 (28%), and the number of non-pathological complete response patients was 188 (72%). Patients with pathological complete response had a smaller tumor diameter than the non-pathological complete response group (p=0.001). For pathological complete response, T1 stage, N1 stage, NG 3, Ki-67 >20%, negative estrogen receptor, negative progesterone receptor, positive Cerb-B2, and adding trastuzumab to chemotherapy were statistically significant (p<0.05). Before neoadjuvant chemotherapy, stage T1-T2 (p=0.036), LN0-1 (p=0.026), Cerb-B2 positivity (p=0.025), and an initial nuclear grade of three (p=0.001) were found to be the factors affecting pathological complete response. With neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the size of locally advanced tumors decreases, allowing breast conserving surgery. The neoadjuvant chemotherapy response can be used as an early indicator of the prognosis of patients with breast cancer. Today, neoadjuvant chemotherapy is also used for patients with early-stage, operable breast cancer because it has been shown in many studies that reaching pathological complete response is associated with positive long-term results. If we can identify patients who have reached pathological complete response before neoadjuvant chemotherapy, we think we can also determine a patient-specific treatment plan at the beginning of treatment.
AIM: To evaluate the prognostic value of preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-lymphocyte ratio in glioblastoma multiforme patients. MATERIAL and METHODS: A total of 75 patients retrospectively analysed. The complete blood count of the patients was analysed before surgery. In our study, cut-off values for PLR 150 (platelet-lymphocyte ratio) and NLR 4 (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio) were found to be significant by creating the ROC curve. Overall survival (OS) was calculated from surgery to death or the last contact. Progression-free survival (PFS) was calculated from surgery to progression. The last follow-up was November 2018. RESULTS: The median OS was significantly shorter in PLR>150 patients (p=0.005; 10 vs 17 months). And the median OS was significantly shorter in NLR>4 patients too (p=0.010; 11 vs 17 months). In multivariate analysis, Karnofsky performance score <70 (HR:2.96, 95% CI:1.68-5.21; p<0.001), type of surgical resection (HR:2.32, 95% CI:1.35-3.98; p=0.002) were statistically significant for PFS. In multivariate analysis, KPS<70 (HR:2.72, 95% CI:1.30-5.67; p4 (HR:2.14, 95% CI:1.11-4.14; p=0.023) were statistically significant for OS were found to be independent prognostic factor. CONCLUSION: The presence of 704, 70<KPS, type of surgical resection were independent prognostic factors that negatively affect for the OS.

Galectin-3 affects tumor progression and cell surface polarization by expressing from the tumor and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs). Therefore, it may have a role on micropapillary carcinomas (IMPC), which have characteristic morphological features. The aim was to investigate the expression levels of Galectin-3 within tumor and peritumoral CAFs in IMPC, and to compare with expression in invasive ductal carcinomas (IDC). Hematoxylin and Eosin-stained preparations of resection materials examined between 2010-2016 were re-evaluated. Thirty-four IMPC cases and 34 IDC cases with similar molecular subtype distribution to IMPC were compared. Galectin-3 levels were evaluated with a calculated H-score in tumor and semi-quantitatively in CAFs. While tumoral Galectin-3 expression levels were higher in IMPCs compared to IDCs, there was no difference for Galectin-3 expression in CAFs between the two histologic types. However, there was no significant relationship between tumoral Galectin-3 expression and clinicopathological parameters in IMPCs. When the subjects were divided into two groups, depending on their Galectin-3 status regardless of histological types, the loss of Galectin-3 expression in tumor was found to be related to larger tumor size/advanced pT stage and a greater number of metastatic nodes. Additionally, expression of Galectin-3 in CAFs was found to be associated with distant metastasis. IMPC showed prominent Galectin-3 expression in tumor compared to IDC. However, independent from the histological type, whereas the loss of Galectin-3 expression in tumor showed an association with larger tumor size and higher number of metastatic axillary lymph nodes, the presence of Galectin-3 expression in CAFs showed an association with distant metastasis.

Introduction: Volumetric parameters of the 18F-FDG PET/CT can contribute to the treatment decision in high risk patients. In the present study, we aimed to examine the predictive, prognostic, and clinical value of PET/CT by using the two volumetric parameters: metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG), SUVmax to concurrently evaluate survival data in patients diagnosed with small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Methods: 244 patients with SCLC, who underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging for staging purpose were enrolled. Primary tumor SUVmax, MTV (40-70%) and TLG (40-70%) obtained from PET/CT were documented. Results: All lesions (n=244) showed 18F-FDG uptake, mean SUVmax of 19.74±8.71 [range (min – max) = 3.80 - 58.80]. SUVmax was significantly higher in tumors with diameters > 2 cm compared to those with diameters ≤ 2 cm (p=0.000). The mean survival time was significantly shorter in patients with tumor diameter greater than 2 cm, locoregional LN involvement, distant nodal metastasis, or distant organ metastasis (p=0.019, p

Patients with residual disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy have a relative risk of developing recurrence. This study investigates the risk factors for recurrence in locally advanced breast cancer patients with residual disease and evaluates survival analysis.
