Alla Manga is a Senegalese researcher specializing in environmental geography and geomatics, currently serving as Head of the Geography Laboratory at the Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noire Cheikh Anta Diop (IFAN Ch. A. Diop) within Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in Dakar. His academic and applied research lies at the intersection of natural resource management, ecosystem services assessment, and food security, with a strong emphasis on the use of advanced geospatial technologies. He mobilizes spatial data infrastructure (SDI), geographic information systems (GIS), and Earth observation (EO) data to analyze environmental dynamics, support evidence-based decision-making, and inform sustainable development policies. Deeply engaged in national and regional initiatives, he contributes to strategic programs such as Senegal’s National Geomatics Plan, where he helps strengthen the institutionalization and governance of geospatial information. In parallel, he is actively involved in capacity-building and knowledge transfer, training students and professionals in GIS applications, spatial analysis, and geospatial data integration, while supervising graduate research at the master’s and doctoral levels. His work has resulted in both high-quality scientific publications and policy-relevant outputs, bridging the gap between research, public policy, and operational environmental management in Senegal and beyond.
