Microgravity research has emerged as a rapidly evolving field at the intersection of space medicine, genomics, biotechnology, and precision medicine. Exposure to the space environment induces complex physiological and molecular adaptations that affect multiple biological systems, including immune regulation, metabolism, musculoskeletal function, and gene expression. Recent advances in genomics, multi-omics technologies, artificial intelligence, and bioengineering have substantially improved our understanding of biological adaptation to spaceflight and expanded opportunities for translational biomedical research. This review summarizes recent advances in genetic and biomedical research under microgravity conditions, with particular emphasis on molecular mechanisms, omics technologies, genome editing, microbiome research, regenerative medicine, and personalized healthcare approaches. Major experimental platforms, landmark spaceflight studies, and translational applications in infectious diseases, cancer biology, aging, tissue engineering, and pharmaceutical development are discussed. The review also highlights Saudi Arabia’s emerging contributions to genomic medicine and space biosciences through initiatives such as the Saudi Human Genome Program, the Saudi Pangenome Project, the Saudi Space Agency, and the BioGravity Initiative. Recent Saudi participation in human spaceflight and microgravity-associated biomedical research is discussed within the context of Vision 2030 and national investments in biotechnology and precision medicine. Collectively, advances in microgravity research are expected to contribute to the advancement of precision medicine and facilitate the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies with significant implications for both human space exploration and terrestrial healthcare.

Antibiotic resistance poses a growing threat to public health, yet limited innovation and development of new antibacterial agents continue to hinder antibiotic discovery. Although only a few novel antibiotic candidates have passed clinical trials and reached the market, resistance continues to grow faster than antibiotic development. Despite numerous advances in drug development, using these technologies in isolation has constrained antibiotic discovery. This review examines how advanced technologies integrate into antibiotic drug discovery. It highlights a coupled approach (co-applied technologies) as an innovative strategy to mitigate the limitations of single approaches and accelerate lead discovery. By highlighting each technology and reviewing its potential applications, this strategy opens new routes and methods that can yield novel chemical scaffolds and new mechanisms of action (i.e., weakening microbial resistance), addressing the challenges posed by increasing global resistance and shortcomings in current antibiotic development. The review also addresses the challenges and barriers to discovering next-generation antibiotics. It also encourages researchers to implement platforms that combine coupled approaches and technologies, such as computational, genomic, biochemical, and structural tools, to replenish the next-generation antibiotic discovery pipeline and address the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) crisis. To strengthen global efforts and lessen the AMR crisis, an innovative antibiotic discovery strategy is necessary.

Ribonucleic acid-based vaccines have emerged as one of the most significant advances in modern vaccine development, demonstrating remarkable clinical success and enabling rapid responses to emerging infectious diseases. Despite their therapeutic potential, the development of these vaccines remains challenging because of the inherent instability of ribonucleic acid molecules, their susceptibility to degradation, and the complexity of formulation design. Ensuring product quality, stability, and biological performance therefore requires comprehensive analytical characterization throughout development, manufacturing, storage, and quality control. This review provides a comprehensive overview of current analytical strategies used to evaluate ribonucleic acid-based vaccine formulations. Key analytical approaches for assessing molecular integrity, purity, encapsulation efficiency, particle morphology, size distribution, surface characteristics, structural attributes, and biological potency are discussed. The review also examines the influence of formulation composition, lipid nanoparticle design, manufacturing processes, and storage conditions on vaccine stability and performance. In addition, major degradation pathways, critical quality attributes, and analytical challenges associated with quality assessment are highlighted. Furthermore, current regulatory considerations and limitations of existing analytical methodologies are discussed, particularly the challenges associated with establishing robust relationships between physicochemical properties and biological efficacy. The review emphasizes the importance of integrated multi-method analytical approaches for comprehensive characterization and quality assurance. Continued advances in analytical technologies and standardization efforts will be essential for supporting the development of safe, effective, and stable ribonucleic acid-based vaccines and for facilitating their broader pharmaceutical applications.
