In this research, we proposed a novel 14-layered deep convolutional neural network (14-DCNN) to detect plant leaf diseases using leaf images. A new dataset was created using various open datasets. Data augmentation techniques were used to balance the individual class sizes of the dataset. Three image augmentation techniques were used: basic image manipulation (BIM), deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN) and neural style transfer (NST). The dataset consists of 147,500 images of 58 different healthy and diseased plant leaf classes and one no-leaf class. The proposed DCNN model was trained in the multi-graphics processing units (MGPUs) environment for 1000 epochs. The random search with the coarse-to-fine searching technique was used to select the most suitable hyperparameter values to improve the training performance of the proposed DCNN model. On the 8850 test images, the proposed DCNN model achieved 99.9655% overall classification accuracy, 99.7999% weighted average precision, 99.7966% weighted average recall, and 99.7968% weighted average F1 score. Additionally, the overall performance of the proposed DCNN model was better than the existing transfer learning approaches.

The aim of this study is to propose a model based on machine learning (ML) and Internet of Things (IoT) to diagnose patients with COVID-19 in smart hospitals. In this sense, it was emphasized that by the representation for the role of ML models and IoT relevant technologies in smart hospital environment. The accuracy rate of diagnosis (classification) based on laboratory findings can be improved via light ML models. Three ML models, namely, naive Bayes (NB), Random Forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM), were trained and tested on the basis of laboratory datasets. Three main methodological scenarios of COVID-19 diagnoses, such as diagnoses based on original and normalized datasets and those based on feature selection, were presented. Compared with benchmark studies, our proposed SVM model obtained the most substantial diagnosis performance (up to 95%). The proposed model based on ML and IoT can be served as a clinical decision support system. Furthermore, the outcomes could reduce the workload for doctors, tackle the issue of patient overcrowding, and reduce mortality rate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There is a considerable rise in cardiovascular diseases in the world. It is pertinently essential to make cardiovascular prediction accurate to the maximum. A forecast based on machine learning techniques can be beneficial in detecting cardiovascular disease (CVD) with maximum precision and accuracy. The disease's effective prediction helps in early diagnosis, which cuts down the mortality rate. A health history and the causes of heart disease require the efficient detection and prediction of CVD. Data analytics is beneficial for making predictions based on a massive amount of data, and it aids health clinics in disease prognosis. Regularly, a large volume of patient-related data is maintained. The information gathered can be used to forecast the emergence of upcoming diseases. Our study presents a detailed comparative study of Cardiovascular Disease by comparing the various machine learning techniques mainly comprising of classification and predictive algorithms. The study shows an in-depth analysis of around forty-one papers related to cardiovascular disease by using machine learning techniques. This study evaluates the selected publications rigorously and identifies gaps in the available literature, making it useful for researchers to develop and apply in clinical fields, primarily on datasets related to heart disease. The current study will aid medical practitioners in predicting heart threats ahead of time, allowing them to take preventative measures.

Radiology is a broad subject that needs more knowledge and understanding of medical science to identify tumors accurately. The need for a tumor detection program, thus, overcomes the lack of qualified radiologists. Using magnetic resonance imaging, biomedical image processing makes it easier to detect and locate brain tumors. In this study, a segmentation and detection method for brain tumors was developed using images from the MRI sequence as an input image to identify the tumor area. This process is difficult due to the wide variety of tumor tissues in the presence of different patients, and, in most cases, the similarity within normal tissues makes the task difficult. The main goal is to classify the brain in the presence of a brain tumor or a healthy brain. The proposed system has been researched based on Berkeley’s wavelet transformation (BWT) and deep learning classifier to improve performance and simplify the process of medical image segmentation. Significant features are extracted from each segmented tissue using the gray-level-co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) method, followed by a feature optimization using a genetic algorithm. The innovative final result of the approach implemented was assessed based on accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, coefficient of dice, Jaccard’s coefficient, spatial overlap, AVME, and FoM.

Machine learning can be used to automate a wide range of tasks. Smart buildings, which use the Internet of Things (IoT) to connect building operations, enable activities, such as monitoring temperature, safety, and maintenance, for easier controlling via mobile devices and computers. Smart buildings are becoming core aspects in larger system integrations as the IoT is becoming increasingly widespread. The IoT plays an important role in smart buildings and provides facilities that improve human security by using effective technology-based life-saving strategies. This review highlights the role of IoT devices in smart buildings. The IoT devices platform and its components are highlighted in this review. Furthermore, this review provides security challenges regarding IoT and smart buildings. The main factors pertaining to smart buildings are described and the different methods of machine learning in combination with IoT technologies are also described to improve the effectiveness of smart buildings to make them energy efficient.
