The study of emergency evacuation in public spaces, buildings and large ships may present parallel characteristic in terms of complexity of the layout but there are also significant differences that can hindering passengers to reach muster stations or the lifeboats. There are many hazards on a ship that can cause an emergency evacuation, the most severe result in loss of lives. Providing safe and effective evacuation of passengers from ships in an emergency situation becomes critical. Recently, computer simulation has become an indispensable technology in various fields, among them, the evacuation models that recently evolved incorporating human behavioral factors. In this work, an analysis of evacuation in a Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ship was conducted. Escape routes specified by the ship’s procedures were introduced in the model and the six emergency scenarios of the Naval Ship Code were simulated. The crew and embarked troops were introduced with their different evacuation behavior, in addition, walking speeds were extracted from data set collected in experiments conducted at other warships. From the results of the simulations, the longest time was chosen and confidence intervals constructed to determine the total evacuation time. Finally, results show that evacuation time meets regulatory requirements and the usefulness and low cost of the evacuation simulation for testing and refining possible ships’ layouts and emergency scenarios.
The Spanish Navy has planned that the F-80 frigates will be replaced by the brand new F-110 frigates in 2022. The F-110 program is in the conceptual design phase and one of the objectives is to provide the new F-110 frigate with a salient anti-submarine capability. Therefore, it is necessary to choose what anti-torpedo decoy should be installed in the warship. The Joint Chiefs of Navy Staff (EMA) established some guidelines and, considering the Navy guidance’s, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was applied. After applying the AHP method, none of the decoys obtained a better score to the other one to make a decision. This paper addresses the problem of the selection of the best anti-torpedo decoy to be installed in the new frigates. This allowed implementing a new approach, the Graphic Method of Measurement of Uncertainty Beyond Objectivity (GMUBO). This approach considers different scenarios from the AHP, quantifies the uncertainty, and evaluates which is the best alternative. The method integrates the uncertainty in the AHP and allows measuring the robustness of the selected alternative, also providing a useful graphical tool. Furthermore, GMUBO has a great ease of use and it is helpful to make decisions under uncertainty conditions.
Some subjects of Engineering Mechanical result particularly difficult because previous knowledge and skills are required. It is the case of Graphic Expression. There are two main reasons justifying failure. Firstly, it is very common to find students with difficulties for the spatial vision. Secondly, a variable percentage of students do not have any previous experience about the contents of this subject since it is a non-compulsory subject in secondary school. This work presents different experiences of inclusive teaching to help these students to achieve the required level of knowledge and the evaluation of this activities.

The new F-110 frigates project is currently in the conceptual design and definition phase. General arrangement has to be defined; there are many demands and proposals of changes. One of them is the design of the most crowded areas, the mess halls. The aim of this article is to provide the Spanish Navy Staff with a decision tool that helps in determining the optimal distribution of the future F-110 mess halls. For this purpose, a new "analytical decision maker" model was designed providing advanced statistical methods and computer pedestrian simulations within multicriteria decision-making framework that allows optimizing conceptual designs. To reduce subjectivity, crew movement simulations and statistical methods were added to the multicriteria decision model, thus creating a less-subjective decision tool. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to check the robustness of results. An integrative decision and design approach are necessary for broad acceptance of human factors adoption within naval architecture design.

The design process of the F-110 frigate for the Spanish Navy is still underway. This work aims to support the decision of the Navy, on the configuration of secondary artillery of the new F-110 frigate. To do this, in this case study, we use and develop a methodology based on an analytical decision maker built ad hoc. This decision-making methodology allows reducing the present subjectivity based on an analytic hierarchy process algorithm. Using objective tools such as numerical simulation and statistical techniques, we are able to evaluate objectively the contributions of the alternatives to different criteria.
