In the present work, Inconel-625 cladding was performed on a mild steel (MS) substrate through a cost-effective microwave technique. Cladding was performed in an industrial microwave oven operated at 1.2 kW and 2.45 GHz. The XRD observation indicates the presence of Laves and carbide phases in addition to a Ni-Cr-Fe based face-centered-cubic (fcc) matrix in the fusion zone microstructure of the clad specimen. The microstructural characterization shows a homogenous and dense microstructure with a porosity value of less than 1%. The columnar dendrites grew perpendicularly to the substrate was observed in the clad zone microstructure. The average microhardness of the deposited clad was significantly higher than that of the base metal (MS), indicating improved surface properties of the base material. Further, corrosion testing indicates that the clad specimen has significantly higher corrosion resistance than that of the base metal (MS) in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution.

With the increasing emphasis on sustainable manufacturing practices, eco-friendly lubricants have gained significant attention to moderate the friction coefficient at the tool-work interface. In line with this, the contemporary study aimed to examine the viability of Alumina-enriched sunflower bio-oil as a metalworking fluid. Different volume fractions of Alumina nanoparticles (varying from 0 to 1 vol%) were mixed with sunflower bio-oil, and the physical properties, for instance, contact angle and dynamic viscosity, were analyzed to determine the optimal concentration of Alumina. Subsequently, machining experiments were executed on Hastelloy C-276 under various lubricating conditions, including dry cutting, compressed air, sunflower bio-oil, and 0.6 vol% Alumina-sunflower bio-oil. A comparative analysis among these lubricating mediums demonstrated that sunflower bio-oil with a 0.6 vol% Alumina concentration outperformed others, resulting in a significant reduction of surface roughness, and tool wear by 73.31%, and 82.14% respectively when compared to dry machining. Besides, the utilization of 0.6 vol% Alumina-sunflower bio-oil has demonstrated a reduction of 17.86% in total machining cost, along with reductions of 15.44% in energy consumption and carbon emissions, when compared to dry machining. Finally, a Taguchi-designed experiment consisting of sixteen trials was performed in different lubricating conditions, and a Fuzzy-Mamdani model was employed to achieve a sustainable machining environment. The sustainability assessment results indicated that a cutting speed of 75 m/min, feed of 0.05 mm/tooth, depth of cut of 0.15 mm, and the utilization of the 0.6 vol% Alumina-sunflower bio-oil resulted in the most sustainable machining environment, with the highest Multi-Performance Characteristics Index of 0.75.

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is still one of the most common bioactive coatings used on metal implants in orthopaedics due to its biocompatibility. The application of HAp to metallic implants can be accomplished using a variety of processes. Plasma spray (PS) coating stands out as the method of choice due to its dependability, affordability, and ability to protect metal surfaces against rust and wear. The use of HAp in medicine has been limited due to the material's unfavorable mechanical characteristics, such as brittleness, a lack of fracture toughness, and inadequate tensile strength. In addition, the remodeling durations of HAp-covered implants are significantly longer, the rate of osseointegration is significantly lower, and no antimicrobial actions or features are present in these implants. The mechanical and biological properties of HAp have been improved by applying various approaches, all of which fall under the category of surface modification tactics. Dopants are one of those strategies that are extremely successful at changing the characteristics and using them in HAp is one of those methods. As a result, this review study aims to consolidate data on implant Hap coating using the plasma spray approach and assess the benefits and problems associated with employing this method. In addition, the paper addresses how altering the structural, chemical, and mechanical features of HAp can assist in overcoming these limitations. In conclusion, it explains how the incorporation of entering the HAp structure can change the features that, when coated using the plasma spraying approach, alter the functionality of the implant.

Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) are metallic materials with unique thermomechanical characteristics that can regain their original shape after deformation. SMAs have been used in a range of industries. These include consumer electronics, touch devices, automobile parts, aircraft parts, and biomedical equipment. In this work, we define the current state of the art in SMA manufacturing and distribution across the aerospace, healthcare, and aerospace industries. We examine the effect of manganese on the structure and mechanical and corrosive properties of SMA Cu-Al-Ni and discuss the importance of incorporating small and medium-sized enterprises in the study of cu-Al luminum. This research outlines a fundamental example of SME integration in the analysis of superelasticity, a critical instance of SMA activity. It can also serve as a reference for activities such as medical, aerospace, and other industries that target SMA-based equipment and systems. Also, they can be used to look at SMA activation and material upgrade mechanisms. These FEM simulations are advantageous in optimizing and promoting design in fields such as aerospace and healthcare. FEM simulations identify the stress and strength of SMA-based devices and structures. This would result in minimizing cost and usage and lowering the risk of damage. FEM simulations can also recognize the weaknesses of the SMA designs and suggest improvements or adjustments to SMA-based designs.
