The most critical parameters of the microclimate in greenhouses are air and soil temperature, air and soil moisture, plant illumination, and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in photosynthesis. New energy sources and resource-efficient management of microclimate parameters in greenhouses can be utilized to reduce greenhouse crop cultivation costs and increase profits. As the plant mass increase depends on photosynthesis, which involves the formation of glucose in the plant chloroplasts from water and carbon dioxide under the influence of light radiation, the saturation of greenhouses with carbon dioxide has become popular in recent decades. However, insufficient light slows down the process of glucose formation, while excessive light intensity negatively affects photosynthesis. Based on the experimentally proven Van Henten model of plant growth and using the MATLAB environment, a methodology was proposed, and the dependence between CO2 concentration and leaf lettuce illumination power required for maximum photosynthesis was determined. It is equal to 0.57 ppm/(W/m2). Such dependence should be considered when designing control systems to reduce resource and energy costs for greenhouse crop cultivation while ensuring maximum yield.
This study presents a quasi-static optimization framework for the pressure-based control of a multi-segment soft continuum manipulator. The proposed method circumvents traditional curvature and length-based modeling by directly identifying the quasi-static input–output relationship between actuator pressures and the 6-DoF end-effector pose. Experimental data were collected using a high-frequency electromagnetic tracking system under monotonic pressurization to minimize hysteresis effects. Transfer functions were identified for each coordinate–actuator pair using the System Identification Toolbox in MATLAB, and optimal actuator pressures were computed analytically by solving a constrained quadratic program via a manual active-set method. The resulting control strategy achieved sub-millimeter positioning error while minimizing the number of actuators engaged. The approach is computationally efficient, sensor-minimal, and fully implementable in open-loop settings. Despite certain limitations due to sensor nonlinearity and actuator hysteresis, the method provides a robust foundation for feedforward control and the real-time deployment of soft robots in quasi-static tasks.
Digital twin (DT) technology has become a transformative engineering paradigm for metal-cutting machine tool systems and materials-processing equipment, enabling real-time synchronisation, predictive analytics, and intelligent decision-making throughout the entire production cycle. This systematic review summarises the latest advances in the engineering-oriented implementation of digital twins, with a focus on their modelling frameworks, tool condition monitoring, compensation for geometric, kinematic, thermal and dynamic errors, fault diagnosis and adaptive control, and on the application of this technology to lathes, milling machines and grinding machines. The search for and selection of literature were carried out in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. In total, 680 records were identified in Google Scholar in May 2026, of which 197 studies met the inclusion criteria and were synthesised narratively within six thematic sections. The analysis demonstrates that modern digital twin architectures integrate multiphysics modelling, multi-sensor data fusion, and machine learning to create high-precision virtual replicas of physical assets. Predictive maintenance and fault diagnosis systems use machine learning and deep learning to detect incipient faults in feed systems, spindles, and other critical components before failure. The review also analyses existing challenges and outlines future research directions for reliable industrial digital twins.
