The progress in the development of computing machinery and software leads to new opportunities in design and research of different hardware. One of the popular instruments for scientists and engineers is MATLAB/Simulink software package which allows not only making complex mathematical calculations but also various hardware simulations. Simulink library contains a wide spectrum of computer devices and modules models. However, the existing data bank content in some cases does not correspond with the software user requirements. The present paper describes the opportunities of MATLAB/Simulink resources expansion by building extra computer models based on S-Function module usage

Herein is proposed a system for adaptive speed control of the permanent characteristics of a wind turbine to ensure safe operation thereof. The design of wind turbines is generally calculated with the nominal power generation at a wind speed of 11 m/s, and it should be controlled at higher wind flow velocities. Rotation speed is the main control parameter of wind turbine system. In addition, the control system can provide normalized thermal conditions for the alternator and prevents exceeding vibration level. Adaptive control system contains mechanical and electromechanical modules intended for braking rotor using friction components. There is also a structure diagram of control system and transfer functions of system components.

The need for an emergency braking system for the wind turbine is discussed in this paper. This system should be installed as the addition to a general control system. To solve the problem of emergency braking we propose an electromechanical device. It is equipped with electric and manual drives. The assembly with small outline dimensions transmits a high braking torque value due to the specific kinematic set of parts and waveform gear reduction unit. The drive specific feature is the possibility of integration into existing wind turbines without major structural changes. We developed the system of electric brake actuator on the base of the functional diagram. We also provide analysis of the system stability using the Mikhailov criterion by plotting the characteristic equation hodograph of the third order.

This paper describes a model of an autonomous public solar street lighting system powered by photovoltaic panels with energy storage battery and the lighting emission diodes consumer. The MATLAB simulating model was built for the system parameters study (voltages, currents and battery state of charge) under alternating solar intensity, photovoltaic converter efficiency and the system lighting load power. The study was focused on testing of the model under different load power conditions at the same solar power and battery charge capacity. The presented model is also used for studying the charge/discharge processes of different battery types for power plants containing solar and wind renewable sources.
