Professor Maria Kuyukina graduated from Perm State University; received a PhD and DSc in Microbiology at the Institute of Ecology and Genetics of Microorganisms, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences; worked as a postdoc and then as a senior researcher at the same institute. Since 2006, she has been a professor of the Microbiology and Immunology Department, Perm State University and a leading researcher of the Laboratory of Alkanotrophic Microorganisms at the Perm Federal Research Center (www.pfrc.ru). Her main research fields are microbial ecology and physiology, ecobiotechnology, molecular microbiology, biomechanics, bioinformatics. She carries out research in environmental microbiology and bioremediation with a focus on hydrocarbon-oxidizing actinobacteria, biosurfactants, and metal nanoparticles. She has been working for more than 30 years in the IEGM Regional Specialized Collection of Alkanotrophic Microorganisms (www.iegmcol.ru; Perm, Russia). She is an author of 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 9 book chapters, 6 patents, and 7 computer programs. She is Member of the Executive Board of the World Federation for Culture Collections - WFCC (2021-2024); Member of the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS), Russian Microbiology Society; Member of the Editorial Council of the “Applied Biochemistry and Microbiology”; Head of the Editorial Board of the “Perm University Herald. Biology”; Member of the Editorial Board of the “Folia Microbiologica”.
