Online courses are gaining popularity because they provide extensive and varied course material, information, knowledge, and skills, whilst also creating an effective educational online community. This research adopts a case study approach to focus on the teaching method and the manner in which a strategic commitment to eLearning provides scope for the development and implementation of top quality educational online fully accredited programs. Entrepreneurship focuses on developing businesses that add value and create wealth and prosperity in our societies. Therefore, entrepreneurship is a key area of learning for graduate students seeking to set up and operate their own SME organizations. It can serve as a benchmark for the teaching of other graduate subjects that require a sound correlation for the correlation of concepts and theories to the challenging complexities of the real world. The program was developed on the basis of the implementation of a state-of-the-art eLearning platform that allowed for a combination of varied self-learning and collaborative learning elements and activities within a single platform. This enabled students to access the online content material efficiently and effectively. It allows for the development of a program based on the flipped classroom teaching methodology. The underlying concept of the flipped classroom methodology is that effective eLearning should comprise both synchronous and asynchronous learning activities. This combination of self-learning and collaborative learning calls for careful planning by the tutor to ensure that the learning objectives are clearly defined for each activity and that the relevant deliverables are monitored. The content material for each subject course module was designed, developed, produced, and presented by the different project partners in a holistic manner structured to motivate participants to learn. The results of our analysis have shown that students were able to learn, discuss their projects, and cooperate during an online course in an effective and participant-focused manner with their tutors. The feedback given highlights the importance of ongoing communications between students and the tutors who often need to act as mentors to retain student engagement.

The smart city concept is a comprehensive approach to the functioning of the urban region. It concerns various areas of life such as culture, infrastructure, environment, energy, and social services. Public perceptions of the smart city concept are not commonly addressed. The aim of this paper is to examine perceptions of the smart city concept among inhabitants, doing so through a case study focusing on the city of Žilina in Slovakia. The methodology that the researchers applied includes primary research and surveys as well as secondary research. Based on the analysis of the environment and the results of the survey, opportunities for the development of a ‘Smart City Žilina’ concept are identified. There is a growing interest in green solutions among the inhabitants of Žilina. A significant number of respondents indicated their support for intelligent waste collection and renewable energy sources. And they were also supportive of green roofs. The update of the strategy must consider a number of steps in waste management, from collection to transport, with a view to the overall recovery of the waste generated. As part of the smart city concept and projects, the public administration and the municipality must communicate effectively with the public. This will require specific approaches and tactical decisions for optimal success.

The purchase decisions require information on where each phase in aretail supply chain should be placed. The presented method is an integrated tool for retail supply chain totransaction cost optimization. The model does not only present a company-level lean management’s decisions within a supply chain, but it also shows the exact method to optimize the supply chain competitiveness. The allocation model also illustrates how the purchase decisions are allocated for producer, distributor and retail companies. The complexity of the allocation model may be affected by the size of the logistic costs, the algorithm used to calculate the supply chain purchase decisions and the final needs of the customers. The lean management approach could be a redemption to a company, but the results do not help to enhance competitiveness for the whole supply chain in every case. In this paper, a model method is demonstrated that helps to gain benefit of the lowest cost of integrated inventory management decisions. One of the essential parts ofthis research is that not onlythe lean management’ result is considered, but effects of purchase decisions are integrated into the whole retail supply chain, as well. This type ofintegrated approachcan have an exponential impact on profitability on supply chain level effectiveness. In the paper are discussed issues that are important from the perspective of carriers, truck owners and operators, transportation policy makers and shippers. Different capacities of transportation and their costs and performance characteristics from lean aspect are discussed as well.

Aerodynamic modelling currently relates to development of mathematical models to describe the aerodynamic forces and moments acting on the aircraft. It is a challenging part of aerodynamics that defines a comprehensive approach to using traditional methods and modern techniques to obtain relevant data. The most complicated task for the aerodynamics and flight dynamics is definition, computation and quantification of the aerodynamic description of an object. This paper presents how to determine the aerodynamic load on a gyrocopter and defines the effect on its stability and control. The first step to solution is to develop simpler approximate aerodynamic model - a model that can be used in analysis of aerodynamic load and can represent the aerodynamic properties of the gyrocopter with an acceptable degree of accuracy. Control and stability are very important parts of aircraft characteristics and therefore those characteristics were analyzed in simulation. Finally, the aerodynamic data outputs are assessed in terms of impact of aerodynamic loads on stability and control of the gyrocopter model.

This paper aims to present the effect of specific operational factors (temperature and humidity) on the selected mechanical properties of a conveyor belt. The tests were conducted in a climatic chamber, simulating the effect of both minus and plus temperatures −30 °C to 80 °C (243 K to 353 K) at specific humidity, and in a thermal shock chamber where a varying number of ageing cycles was applied for a specific range of thermal shocks. Six different tests in the climatic chamber and four different tests in a thermal shock chamber were conducted. The results of the climatic chamber tests demonstrate that many strength parameters have undesired values at a temperature of 10 °C (283 K) and 80 °C (353 K) at a relative humidity of 80%. Interestingly, the results revealed that tensile strength, tensile modulus and yield strength are higher at below 0 °C temperature than at above 0 °C temperature. For example, comparing the temperature −30 °C (243 K) and +30 °C (303 K) obtained a difference of tensile modulus of nearly 10%, and comparing the temperature −30 °C (243 K) and +10 °C (283 K) the differences were 22%.

The article deals with the experimental monitoring of the driver’s attention during train operation. SMI eye-tracking technology and eye-tracking glasses we used to measure the train driver’s attention. This unique experiment we performed on the Slovak railway (ŽSR) line no. 120 Bratislava - Žilina, in the section Žilina - Púchov. The measurement took place in the spring of 2017, and the passenger train was operated by the ZSSK electric unit series 671. The article analyses in detail the monitoring of the driver’s attention during train operation. We analysed two typical processes during train driver work: driving at the section (without stopping) and driving through the train station (with stopping). Realised analysis can lead to the identification of critical points on the line, to a better understanding of the driver’s way of work and to contribute to increasing railway safety. The unique measurement procedure and the used technology did not affect the safety of the train operation.

The Internet serves as the main infrastructure for global shopping. For this purpose, the construction of an e-commerce logistics network is the main aspect of a successful existence in the virtual environment. This paper analyses the logistics system of a company located in Ukraine. The core business of the company is selling diagnostic equipment for cars through an online store. The structure of the company consists of one warehouse and five branches. The company does not have its own fleet for the transportation of products from warehouse to branches or to end customers and it outsources the services of another logistics company. The main goal of the paper is to optimize the existing logistics system of the product flow between the warehouse, branches and the final buyers of the online store. At the end of the article, after optimizing the warehouse localization, we received a reduction in shipping costs by 23%. Also, an existing and optimized logistics network is compared in terms of speed and cost of transportation between warehouse, affiliates and end users.

The aim of the present article is to determine the impact of the selected exploitation factors on strength of the wooden elements’ adhesive joints. Two types of adhesive joints were subject to experimental tests: butt adhesive joints and cross lap adhesive joints. Two types of adhesives were used: Prefere 6312 (a single-component PVAc adhesive for wood of D3 quality) and a two-component epoxy adhesive (Epidian 57/TFF/100:22). The exploitation factor under analysis was resistant to different temperature values above and below freezing. Six different variants of the joints’ ageing temperature value were used. The adhesive joints have been aged for 2 weeks (2 variants) and 3 months (3 variants). One ageing variant also included thermal shock (−40 °C/+60 °C), for which the ageing time was 2 months. A climatic/temperature chamber ESPEC SH 661 and a thermal shock chamber ESPEC TSE – 1 were used for ageing. Strength tests of the adhesive samples were carried out on the testing machine Zwick/Roell Z150, with accordance to the PN-EN 15870 standard. Based on the tests, it was observed that the adhesive joints of the wooden elements showed different dependencies between the strength and the ageing variant depending on the type of adhesive used. The results emphasise the importance of the temperature impact on the adhesive joints strength.

Design and development of systems for delivering real-time information to people with disabilities and elderly persons need to be based on defined user requirements. For this purpose, the user requirements have been defined in this paper according to the everyday needs of people who use traffic networks and move in closed spaces. The logical presentation of the functionality of the informing system operation and its subsystems includes all the information (data) important for designing a user information delivery system. The paper presents a conceptual architecture system for delivering user informing services related to the environment based on the Internet of Things concept. The aim of the user informing service is an increase in the level of mobility of persons with disabilities and the senior age groups of users. In order to check the operation of the proposed architecture, the informing system operation was monitored on Arduino Uno and Raspberry Pi platforms in laboratory conditions. A simulation confirmed the interdependence of individual data from different subsystems in order to provide real-time information to the system user. The proposed conceptual architecture can contribute to a more efficient approach to the modeling of assistive technologies (with the aim of informing the users) based on dew/fog/cloud technologies in the Internet of Things environment.
