At the end of the last century, digital technology emergence enabled millions of people to compete globally by remotely offering their knowledge and skills. In addition, business processes are becoming fragmented into smaller components, so-called short-term projects. These work arrangements are often carried out by so-called independent professionals (contractors), better known as freelancers. A literature review has shown that the research topic of freelancing from an entrepreneurial perspective is relatively new and has its assumptions and gaps. Different stakeholders and institutions connect, mediate and manage the services of the entrepreneurial ecosystem to support entrepreneurs. As freelancers belong to the self-employed entrepreneurial category, they are engaged in business activities and need support from their environment. To contribute to this topic, we have analyzed the relationships between freelancers’ job and career satisfaction, digitalization and entrepreneurial ecosystem factors, with the aim of making policy recommendations. Regarding the entrepreneurial environment, we analyzed the cultural and social norms and government programs that provide support, based on the measurement instrument, developed in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) research. We surveyed 200 freelancers (respondents) in Slovenia. Using factor analysis and structural equation modelling, the empirical results suggest that digitalization and cultural and social norms are significant factors that promote the success of new careers as freelancers in terms of job and career satisfaction. The results show that both positively influence job and career satisfaction, while government programs indirectly influence the job and career satisfaction of freelancers. This explains how the entrepreneurial ecosystem, plays a special role in supporting freelancers on their career path.

Instructions for Written Works at Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Maribor. During the course of their studies, each student encounters the creation of written works. The first step is the seminar work within individual courses, intended precisely for us to learn to research, to search for sources of data and other information, to express ourselves professionally, to form our thoughts and to appropriately shape the final appearance of the text. This knowledge is then shown in the final works at the end of the study, where the content and format of such written work is especially important. The manual is constructed in such a way that the chapters follow in the same way as in any written work, except for the colophon and the preface, which are not otherwise necessary in the written works. Each chapter explains the essential features of the chapter. Below the "attention" tag are the most common mistakes we should pay particular attention to and avoid. The example label shows the layout of the individual elements. Also, command hints in Microsoft Word 2019 have been added for easier work. V vsakem poglavju so pojasnjene bistvene značilnosti poglavja. Pod oznako "pozor" so navedene najpogostejše napake, na katere moramo biti posebej pozorni in se jih izogibati. Pod oznako primer so prikazani izgledi posameznih elementov. Prav tako so za lažje delo dodani namigi za ukaze v Microsoft Word 2019.

This paper uses the technology acceptance model (TAM) framework for the research of economic and geography students’ attitudes towards interdisciplinary knowledge. Based on the SmartPLS Structural equation modelling SEM variance-based method, research results were gained through analysis of survey data of economic and geography students. They participated in the Spationomy project in the period of 2017–2019. Online questionnaires were fulfilled before and after students’ participation in the project and their future behavioural intention to use interdisciplinary knowledge was analysed. Based on the research, we can confirm that the Spationomy project has achieved its purpose, as both groups of students (economic and geography students) have acquired interdisciplinary knowledge and students intend to use it also in the future. Therefore, we can argue that the students included in the project in practice gained recognition of systems thinking about the importance of mutual interdisciplinary cooperation towards achieving synergies. The results also show that TAM can be successfully implemented to analyse how students of economics and geography accept the use of interdisciplinary knowledge in the learning process, which is an important implication for management and education as well as from the theoretical implications viewpoint. While effective analysis using TAM has been used successfully and relatively frequently in economics and business field, we have not found relevant examples of its implementation in the broader field of geography. However, the acceptance of geographic information system (GIS) or other information technologies/information software (IT/IS) tool-based approaches of analysis in the geography field may be of most importance. Therefore, also, this represents an important implication for the research area.

The purpose of this article is to present the relationships among older employee stress, motivation, satisfaction, and relationships in the workplace using two different approaches and different sample sizes. Research was implemented on an initial sample of 1013 older employees. In the next step, six smaller samples were calculated using the random selection of cases, namely samples with 25, 50, 100, 250, 400, and 500 older employees. This way the possible impact of sample size on relationships between latent variables using the covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM) and the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) methods was assessed. The results on the larger samples have proved to be quite robust since they were confirmed with both approaches. They indicate that stress has a strong and negative impact on employee relationships and also a negative impact on employee satisfaction. Furthermore, employee relationships have a strong and positive impact on satisfaction and a positive impact on employee motivation. In addition, satisfaction has a strong and positive impact on employee motivation. The present paper helps readers to better understand the difference between the CB-SEM and the PLS-SEM methods. Researchers should be encouraged to use both techniques, even though CB-SEM methods have had a long tradition in management and marketing research since both fields heavily rely on psychometric measurement. From the organizational point of view, conclusions highlight the importance of the impact the variables of older employee stress, motivation, satisfaction and employee relations have on each other in the workplace.

Business informatics consists of two major areas which are developing separately but are closely related and also to some extent integrated within information systems architecture in organisations. The first area is business solutions as core information systems for support of business operations – they consist of Enterprise resources planning solutions (ERP), Customer relationship management solutions (CRM) and other specialised solutions. The second area is Business Intelligence (BI). After describing the basic concepts of these information solutions/business information systems and their functionality, the chapter explains the emerging integration of business informatics and geo-informatics. Developments provided by solution providers are analysed and discussed. The chapter concludes with a bibliometric analysis of research which shows areas and dynamics of business informatics and GIS integration.

In today’s world of digitization and the emergence of large amounts of data, it is extremely important that we know how to extract the information that this data captures and that represents foundations we need in organizations for efficient decision-making. Therefore, for graduates, regardless of the field of study, the knowledge of quantitative methods and the ability of “statistical thinking” is extremely important. Quantitative methods and quantitative approach to research and analysis of data imply important advantages over qualitative approach, but their combination can certainly in many areas mean an effective approach to obtaining information that is hidden within data. In this chapter, we first consider some selected methodological approaches to data analysis, in particular the basic principles of inferential statistics, which enables us to generalize the results of a random sample, with a certain degree of probability, to a statistical population. We also show how to use the logistic regression methodology on a case that shows the importance of combining the economic and geographic aspects of research, i.e. the “spationomy” approach. In the next part of the chapter the multi-criteria decision-making is presented, that has proven useful in solving spatial decision problems. We develop and apply the multi-criteria model for the protection of agricultural land for food self-sufficiency. Based on the literature review, the theoretical backgrounds of multi-criteria decision-making, together with the use of multi-criteria decision making in land-use evaluation and management are introduced. In addition, the multi-criteria model for the protection of agricultural land for food self-sufficiency is developed, taking into account the characteristics of the protection of agricultural land and public data base information in Slovenia. For this purpose, we followed the frame procedure for multi-criteria decision making by using the group of methods based on assigning weights to criteria – in this research, we used the Simplified Multi-attribute Rating Technique and the Analytic Hierarchy Process. Selected geographical and economic factors were structured in the criteria hierarchy. In synthesis, the additive model was used in order to select the most favorable solution. The aggregate values obtained with an additive model were completed by considering synergies and redundancies among criteria by a fuzzy measure – discrete Choquet integral. The results enable suggesting measures for the protection of agricultural land for food self-sufficiency.

Background and Purpose: Age diverse employees are faced with different types of occupational stress and different symptoms of burnout when carrying out their work. Therefore, the role of age in job design and implementation of work should not be ignored. The main aim of this paper is to investigate the age differences of occupational stress and symptoms of burnout of employees and to analyze the impact of occupational stress, symptoms of burnout and age on employees’ work satisfaction. Methodology: The paper is based on research that includes a survey of employees in two age groups: younger employees under 50 years of age and older employees between 50 to 65 years of age. Factor analysis was used to form the constructs of occupational stress, symptoms of burnout and employees’ work satisfaction. The non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test was used to test differences in the obtained constructs of occupational stress and symptoms of burnout in the workplace between two independent groups. The multiple regression analysis was used to examine the impact of occupational stress, symptoms of burnout and age on employees’ work satisfaction. Results: The results show there are statistically significant differences in occupational stress and symptoms of burnout in the workplace between older and younger employees. On average, younger employees perceived higher levels of occupational stress and burnout as compared to the older group. Research results also show that occupational stress, behavioral symptoms and emotional symptoms of burnout, as well as age, have a significant impact on employees’ work satisfaction. Conclusion: Managing diversity requires a strategic approach to managing people at work. Therefore, this research adds to the body of knowledge by pointing out the relationship between age and occupational stress and burnout symptoms. Because the role of age in job design has largely been ignored, these relationships have not been studied enough.

The main objective of this research is to test the hypothesis that the two-step structural equation modelling (SEM) and artificial neural network (ANN) approach enables better in-depth research results as compared to the single-step SEM approach. This approach was used to determine which factors have statistically significant influence on extended use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. The research model and the hypothesized relationships are based on the technology acceptance model (TAM). Majority of research on ERP acceptance has been conducted with SEM based research approaches. The purpose of this paper is to extend basic TAM research which is traditionally based on SEM technique with ANN approach. In the first step of the present research the SEM technique was used to determine which factors have statistically significant influence on extended use of the ERP systems; in the second step, ANN models were used to rank the relative influence of significant predictors obtained from SEM. The main finding of this research is that the use of multi-analytical two step SEM–ANN approach provides two important benefits. First, it enables additional verification of the results obtained by the SEM analysis. Second, this approach enables capturing not only linear but also complex nonlinear relationships between antecedents and dependent variables and more precise measure of relative influence of each predictor.

Changes regarding the importance of graduates’ competences by employers and changes of competences themselves are to a great extend driven by the technological changes, digitalization, and big data. Among these competences, the ability to perform business and data analytics, based on statistical thinking and data mining, is becoming extremely important. In this paper, we study the relationships among several constructs that are related to attitudes of economics and business students regarding quantitative statistical methods and to students’ intention to use them in the future. Findings of our research provide important insights for practitioners, educators, lecturers, and curricular management teams.

Due to intense competition and the emergence of new insurance companies at the Slovenian market, insurance services are becoming increasingly complex, while sales activity by insurance companies is becoming more marketing-oriented at the same time. Insurance services are, by nature, extremely multifaceted and this is reflected in the way in which the insurance market is manipulated. As insurance companies often change the content of their products (insurance conditions, insurance coverage, price, evaluation damage cases, etc.), it is important to know who benefits most from the relationship between insurance companies and customers and whether the content of insurance products is generally fair to customers. Insurance services involve various kinds of transactional interventions, about a new policy and queries raised during the term of an insurance policy or making an insurance claim, in which salespeople are in contact with customers. Some insurance companies demand an intensive sales orientation from their salespeople, gaining new customers as quickly as possible above providing them with full and transparent service. The reason for this may be due to the pressures of management in insurance companies, be it related to income or internal competition. In many cases, the content of insurance products can lead to conflicts and misunderstandings after an insurance policy has been agreed. This is particularly evident when policies are terminated or claims are made. This paper presents different viewpoints in research regarding which insurance services are perceived as fair by customers. The research question was: what is the impact of perceived fair insurance services on customer-insurance company relationship? Using structural equation modelling (SEM) with a sample of n = 200 consumers of insurance services, it has been found that perceived fair insurance services have a significant positive effect on perceived relationship value outcomes, as well as perceived quality of customer-insurance company relationship and customer satisfaction. It has also been found that perceived fair insurance services are directly confirmed by customer satisfaction with perceived quality of customer-insurance company relationship. The study also has found that perceived relationship quality has a significant and strong positive effect on perceived relationship value outcomes. The study has further found that perceived relationship value outcomes and perceived relationship quality have a significant positive effect on customer satisfaction. Perceived fair insurance services, then, are determined by the relationship between insurance companies and customers and the extent to which customers are satisfied with the insurance services they use. The study’s findings are extremely important for institutions operating in the financial and insurance service market for the purpose of creating a relationship strategy.

The existing empirical research into the association between intellectual capital disclosures by organisations and the cost of debt is scarce or is based solely on the samples of the (large) listed organisations. Since agency issues between management/owners and lenders exist also in (large) private organisations whose financing is greatly dependent on loans and whose audited annual reports can be a source of additional information for external users, we performed an empirical research to find the answer to the question whether the level of intellectual capital disclosure (as a whole and of its sub-categories) of organisations is associated with the cost of their debt capital. Our study was performed on a sample of private Slovenian organisations with audited annual reports. The results of our research did not reveal that lenders would take into account intellectual capital disclosures by Slovenian private audited organisations as the information about the potential for their future cash flows when deciding on the cost of debt issued to these organisations.

The book presents the results of the largest longitudinal study of entrepreneurship in the world, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. It is based on data collected in 2016 and before, and deals with the interconnectedness of entrepreneurship and economic development. This monograph brings the results of the study of entrepreneurship in Slovenia and compares them with the results of other countries. It is based on a joint methodology and performed within a closely linked and interconnected global network of researchers, allowing detailed international comparisons. The book enables a better understanding of societal values about entrepreneurship and the specific individual characteristics of persons, such as their perception of their own entrepreneurial capabilities, their ability to perceive business opportunities, their entrepreneurial intentions and their fear of failure. Because the survey monitored entrepreneurial activity in all phases of the life cycle (nascent, new and established businesses, business discontinuation), and according to the impact and type of activity, it delivers a comprehensive picture of entrepreneurship processes and their ecosystem. A substantial amount of attention is also devoted to entrepreneurial aspirations and the quality of the entrepreneurship ecosystem, since the latter may significantly foster (or constrain) entrepreneurial processes in a society.

Despite growing literature on the different aspects of airline service quality in relation to behavioural intentions, less attention has been paid to some specific aspects of in-flight services. The focus of the present research is, therefore, on a multiple conceptual model of the quality of in-flight services in relation to passengers’ perception of value, followed by recommendations (word of mouth - WOM) of airlines, as well as the quality and comfort of airline seats. The study is performed using two databases of reviewers’/passengers’ opinions regarding the quality of in-flight airline services and airline seat comfort. Our research results reveal that the perceived comfort of the airplane seat is the most important factor of passengers’ perceived quality of in-flight airline services, which also considerably affects the passengers’ perception of value, and consequently moderates behavioural intentions (in our research, expressed through positive WOM). The analysis of the relative importance of the components of perceived airline seats’ comfort shows that seat width is the most significant factor that contributes to the overall perceived comfort of the airline seat.

This paper presents the results of the first empirical study of household accounting in Slovenia, which was conducted on a sample of households of subsidised self-employed entrepreneurs. Based on an original measurement of the levels of household accounting, this study presents the scope of different accounting components in these households. Further, it gives the results of the comparison between those subsidised self-employed entrepreneurs who managed to keep their business and those who failed to do so. The comparison of the results showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups of entrepreneurs only in terms of the scope of monitoring of household costs and expenditures.
