International supply chains generate substantial amounts of CO2 emissions. However, established methodologies for national freight transport emission assessments do not consider such international perspectives sufficiently. This research aims to show how logistic responsibility may be used in ex post transport CO2 emission assessments, for macrologistic or supply chain levels. We propose an original approach to estimate and allocate CO2 emissions generated by international freight transport between trade countries. The proposed method relies on the applied Incoterms® rules in sales contracts. A new indicator, the index of responsibility for transport emissions (RTE-index), is introduced to allocate bilateral trade-related transport CO2 emissions. This is the first time that the Incoterms® clauses are used for macrologistic assessments of international trade-related transport CO2 emissions. Our approach is exemplified using bilateral trade-related transport flows between Serbia and other European countries. The introduced RTE-index is expected to help visualise average national trade-related transport CO2 emission responsibilities; increase awareness regarding environmental considerations among trade parties, logistics companies, and national organisations; and provide new perspectives for environmental transport policy actions.

The necessity to measure the effectiveness of the management of protected areas has been widely recognized. This paper aims to show a realistic state of affairs in protected area management in the Republic of Serbia on the basis of the results of managers’ monitoring and their obligations stipulated by law. It will also answer questions on which form of management is optimal, by means of a proposed assessment model. The research has been performed on a sample of 30 sensu stricto protected areas, managed by 21 different managers. For the purpose of ranking and comparing the degree of protected area management effectiveness, the use of a normalized aggregate function (scoring) has been introduced. Results show that about half of the analyzed protected areas have no adequate management in terms of legally prescribed management criteria, as well as that management effectiveness is related to several external factors. The authors conclude that meeting all criteria stipulated by law, and the existence of professional staff represent fundamental factors for the effective management of protected areas.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have reshaped the treatment landscape of metastatic melanoma. While combination regimens often demonstrate improved response and survival compared to monotherapy, they are also associated with a higher incidence of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Understanding the balance between benefit and risk is essential for making informed treatment decisions, especially given the variability in reported outcomes across clinical trials. Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 14 clinical trials (comprising 22 treatment arms and >5000 patients) comparing ICI monotherapy (nivolumab, ipilimumab, or pembrolizumab) and combination therapy (nivolumab + ipilimumab) in advanced melanoma. Treatment-related outcomes were synthesized using fixed-effects, random-effects, or generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs), depending on study variability. Survival data were extracted from published Kaplan–Meier curves and analyzed using longitudinal GLMMs to capture trends over time. Results: Compared to monotherapy, combination immunotherapy achieved higher clinical benefit, with an overall response of 52.2% (vs. 31.6%), a five-year overall survival of 55.7% (vs. 34.3%), and a five-year progression-free survival of 39.0% (vs. 17.2%). However, this benefit came with a higher risk of toxicity: immune-related adverse events occurred in 93.2% of patients receiving combination therapy versus in 81.9% receiving monotherapy. Differences were consistent across all individual severe toxicities. Conclusions: Combination immunotherapy offers greater long-term clinical benefit than monotherapy in metastatic melanoma but at the cost of increased toxicity. By applying models adapted to study variability, we provide more reliable estimates of treatment efficacy and risk. GLMMs provide the most robust estimates and enable the modeling of survival dynamics over time. These findings support evidence-based decision-making and highlight the value of model-informed meta-analysis in oncology.

The cessation of traditional mountain grazing has emerged as a principal driver of habitat degradation and the local extinction of Parnassius apollo (Linnaeus, 1758) in Serbia. While previous studies have cited multiple contributing factors, our research provides evidence that the abandonment of extensive livestock grazing has triggered vegetation succession, the disappearance of the larval host plant (Sedum album), and a reduction in microhabitat heterogeneity—conditions essential for the persistence of this stenophagous butterfly species. Through satellite-based analysis of vegetation dynamics (2015–2024), we identified clear structural differences between habitats that currently support populations and those where the species is no longer present. Occupied sites were characterized by low levels of exposed soil, moderate grass coverage, and consistently high shrub and tree density, whereas unoccupied sites exhibited dense encroachment of grasses and woody vegetation, leading to structural instability. Furthermore, MODIS-derived indices (2010–2024) revealed a consistent decline in vegetation productivity (GPP, FPAR, LAI) in succession-affected areas, alongside significant correlations between elevated land surface temperatures (LST), thermal stress (TCI), and reduced photosynthetic capacity. A wildfire event on Mount Stol in 2024 further exacerbated habitat degradation, as confirmed by remote sensing indices (BAI, NBR, NBR2), which documented extensive burn scars and post-fire vegetation loss. Collectively, these findings indicate that the decline of P. apollo is driven not only by ecological succession and climatic stressors, but also by the abandonment of land-use practices that historically maintained suitable habitat conditions. Our results underscore the necessity of restoring traditional grazing regimes and integrating ecological, climatic, and landscape management approaches to prevent further biodiversity loss in montane environments.

The problem of determining the conditions under which a random rectangular matrix is of full rank is a fundamental question in random matrix theory, with significant implications for coding theory, cryptography, and combinatorics. In this paper, we study the probability of full rank for a K×N random matrix over the finite field Fq, where q is a prime power, under the assumption that the rows of the matrix are sampled independently from a probability distribution P over FqN. We demonstrate that the probability of full rank attains a local maximum when the distribution P is uniform over FqN∖{0}, for any K⩽N and prime power q. Moreover, we establish that this local maximum is also a global maximum in the special case where K=2. These results highlight the optimality of the uniform distribution in maximizing full rank and represent a significant step toward solving the broader problem of maximizing the probability of full rank for random matrices over finite fields.
