In recent times, with the advent of blockchain technology, there is an optimism surrounding the concept of self-sovereign identity which is regarded to have influential effect on how we interact with each other over the Internet in future. There are a few works in the literature which examine different aspects of self-sovereign identity. Unfortunately, the existing works are not methodological and comprehensive at all. Moreover, there exist different notions what the term self-sovereign identity means. To exploit its full potential, it is essential to ensure a common understanding in a formal way. This article aims to achieve this goal by providing the first-ever formal and rigorous treatment of the concept self-sovereign identity using a mathematical model. This article examines the properties that a self-sovereign identity should have and explores the impact of self-sovereign identity over the Laws of Identity. It also highlights the essential lifecycles of an Identity Management System and inter-relates how the notion of self-sovereign identity can be applied in these life-cycles. In addition, the article illustrates several envisioned flows involving a selfsovereign identity leveraging blockchain technology covering different aspects of an Identity Management System. All in all, this article presents the first formal and comprehensive step towards an academic investigation of self-sovereign identity.

Brain tumors are life-threatening for adults and children. However, accurate and timely detection can save lives. This study focuses on three different types of brain tumors: Glioma, meningioma, and pituitary tumors. Many studies describe the analysis and classification of brain tumors, but few have looked at the problem of feature engineering. Methods are needed to overcome the drawbacks of manual diagnosis and conventional feature-engineering techniques. An automatic diagnostic system is thus necessary to extract features and classify brain tumors accurately. While progress continues to be made, the automatic diagnoses of brain tumors still face challenges of low accuracy and high false-positive results. The model presented in this study, which offers improvements for feature extraction and classification, uses deep learning and machine learning for the assessment of brain tumors. Deep learning is used for feature extraction and encompasses the application of different models such as fine-tuned Inception-v3 and fine-tuned Xception. The classification of brain tumors is explored through deep- and machine-learning algorithms including softmax, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, K-Nearest Neighbors, and the ensemble technique. The results of these approaches are compared with existing methods. The Inception-v3 model has a test accuracy of 94.34% and achieves the highest performance compared with other recently reported methods. This improvement may be sufficient to support a significant role in clinical applications for brain tumor analysis. Furthermore, this type of approach can be used as an effective decision-support tool for radiologists in medical diagnostics as a second opinion based on the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) analysis. It may also save valuable time for radiologists who have to manually review numerous MRI images of patients.

This paper discusses the security of data in cloud computing. It is a study of data in the cloud and aspects related to it concerning security. The paper will go in to details of data protection methods and approaches used throughout the world to ensure maximum data protection by reducing risks and threats. Availability of data in the cloud is beneficial for many applications but it poses risks by exposing data to applications which might already have security loopholes in them. Similarly, use of virtualization for cloud computing might risk data when a guest OS is run over a hypervisor without knowing the reliability of the guest OS which might have a security loophole in it. The paper will also provide an insight on data security aspects for Data-in-Transit and Data-at-Rest. The study is based on all the levels of SaaS (Software as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service).

Intrusion detection in computer networks is of great importance because of its effects on the different communication and security domains. The detection of network intrusion is a challenge. Moreover, network intrusion detection remains a challenging task as a massive amount of data is required to train the state-of-the-art machine learning models to detect network intrusion threats. Many approaches have already been proposed recently on network intrusion detection. However, they face critical challenges owing to the continuous increase in new threats that current systems do not understand. This paper compares multiple techniques to develop a network intrusion detection system. Optimum features are selected from the dataset based on the correlation between the features. Furthermore, we propose an AdaBoost-based approach for network intrusion detection based on these selected features and present its detailed functionality and performance. Unlike most previous studies, which employ the KDD99 dataset, we used a recent and comprehensive UNSW-NB 15 dataset for network anomaly detection. This dataset is a collection of network packets exchanged between hosts. It comprises 49 attributes, including nine types of threats such as DoS, Fuzzers, Exploit, Worm, shellcode, reconnaissance, generic, and analysis Backdoor. In this study, we employ SVM and MLP for comparison. Finally, we propose AdaBoost based on the decision tree classifier to classify normal activity and possible threats. We monitored the network traffic and classified it into either threats or non-threats. The experimental findings showed that our proposed method effectively detects different forms of network intrusions on computer networks and achieves an accuracy of 99.3% on the UNSW-NB15 dataset. The proposed system will be helpful in network security applications and research domains.
