This paper presents a finite element formulation to study the mechanical buckling of stiffened functionally graded material (FGM) plates. The approach is based on a third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT) introduced by Guangyu Shi. The material properties of the plate were assumed to be varied in the thickness direction by a power law distribution, but the material of the stiffener was the same as that of the one of the bottom surface where the stiffener was placed. A parametric study was carried out to highlight the effect of material distribution, the thickness-to-width ratio, and stiffener parameters on the buckling characteristics of the stiffened FGM plates. Numerical results showed that the addition of stiffener to the FGM plate could significantly reduce the weight of the FGM plate but that both the FGM plates with and without stiffener had equally high strength in the same boundary condition and compression loading.

A three-layer composite shell with shear connectors is made of three shell layers with one another connected by stubs at the contact surfaces. These layers can have similar or different geometrical and physical properties with the assumption that they always contact and have relative movement in the working process. Due to these characteristics, they are used widely in many engineering applications, such as ship manufacturing and production, aerospace technologies, transportation, and so on. However, there are not many studies on these types of structures. This paper is based on the first-order shear deformation Mindlin plate theory and finite element method (FEM) to establish the oscillator equations of the shell structure under dynamic load. The authors construct the calculation program in the MATLAB environment and verify the accuracy of the established program. Based on this approach, we study the effects of some of the geometrical and physical parameters on the dynamic responses of the shell.

Triple-layered composite plates are created by joining three composite layers using shear connectors. These layers, which are assumed to be always in contact and able to move relatively to each other during deformation, could be the same or different in geometric dimensions and material. They are applied in various engineering fields such as ship-building, aircraft wing manufacturing, etc. However, there are only a few publications regarding the calculation of this kind of plate. This paper proposes novel equations, which utilize Mindlin’s theory and finite element modelling to simulate the forced vibration of triple-layered composite plates with layers connected by shear connectors subjected to a moving load. Moreover, a Matlab computation program is introduced to verify the reliability of the proposed equations, as well as the influence of some parameters, such as boundary conditions, the rigidity of the shear connector, thickness-to-length ratio, and the moving load velocity on the dynamic response of the composite plate.

An edge-based smoothed finite element method (ES-FEM) combined with the mixed interpolation of tensorial components technique for triangular shell element (MITC3), called ES-MITC3, for free vibration analysis of functionally graded shells is investigated in this work. In the formulation of the ES-MITC3, the stiffness matrices are obtained by using the strain-smoothing technique over the smoothing domains that are formed by two adjacent MITC3 triangular shell elements sharing an edge. The strain-smoothing technique can improve significantly the accuracy and convergence of the original MITC3. The material properties of functionally graded shells are assumed to vary through the thickness direction by a power–rule distribution of volume fractions of the constituents. The numerical examples demonstrated that the present ES-MITC3method is free of shear locking and achieves the high accuracy compared to the reference solutions in the literature.

This paper proposes applications of a modified stochastic fractal search algorithm (MSFS) to solve the economic load dispatch problem (ELD) in which valve-point effects, prohibited operating zones, power losses in all conductors, multi-fuel sources and other constraints of power system are taken into consideration. The proposed method is first developed in the study by performing two modifications on two procedures of new solution generation from conventional stochastic fractal search (SFS). The first modification is used to change the strategy of producing new solutions of the first and the second update procedures while the second one is to newly update the worst solutions in the first update process and the best solutions in the second update process. These modifications have major influence on the solution search performance of the proposed method. All improvements of the proposed method can be illustrated by solving and analyzing results from various test systems with different system scales including 3-unit, 6-unit, 10-unit, and 20-unit systems. Comparison of results obtained by MSFS, SFS, and other existing methods indicates that the proposed MSFS method is more effective and robust than compared methods in terms of solution quality, high-quality solution search stability and convergence process. Consequently, the proposed method should be used as a very favorable optimization method for the ELD problem and it should be tried for other optimization problems in electrical engineering.

In this time, energy efficiency (EE), measured in bits per Watt, has been considered as an important emerging metric in energy-constrained wireless communication networks because of their energy shortage. In this paper, we investigate power beacon assisted (PB) energy harvesting (EH) in half-duplex (HD) communication network under co-channel Interferer over Rayleigh fading environment. In this work, we investigate the model system with the time switching (TS) protocol. Firstly, the exact and asymptotic form expressions of the outage probability (OP) are analyzed and derived. Then the system EE is investigated and the influence of the primary system parameters on the system performance. Finally, we verify the correctness of the analytical expressions using Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, we can state that the simulation and analytical results are the same.
