Advances in the Internet of Things (IoT) are helping to make water management smarter and optimizing consumption in the smart agriculture industry. This article proposes a new topology of sensor nodes based on the use of inexpensive and highly efficient components, such as water level, soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and rain sensors. Additionally, to guarantee good performance of the system, the used transmission module is based on LoRa LPWAN technology. The design of the main circuit board of the system is optimized by combining two layers and implementing software optimization. The overall sensor network is developed and tested in the research lab, and real farms can be controlled by users manually or automatically using the mobile application. Experimental results are produced by testing sensor and communication link effectiveness, and are subsequently validated in the field through a one-week measurement campaign.

Along with the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), waste management has appeared as a serious issue. Waste management is a daily task in urban areas, which requires a large amount of labour resources and affects natural, budgetary, efficiency, and social aspects. Many approaches have been proposed to optimize waste management, such as using the nearest neighbour search, colony optimization, genetic algorithm, and particle swarm optimization methods. However, the results are still too vague and cannot be applied in real systems, such as in universities or cities. Recently, there has been a trend of combining optimal waste management strategies with low-cost IoT architectures. In this paper, we propose a novel method that vigorously and efficiently achieves waste management by predicting the probability of the waste level in trash bins. By using machine learning and graph theory, the system can optimize the collection of waste with the shortest path. This article presents an investigation case implemented at the real campus of Ton Duc Thang University (Vietnam) to evaluate the performance and practicability of the system’s implementation. We examine data transfer on the LoRa module and demonstrate the advantages of the proposed system, which is implemented through a simple circuit designed with low cost, ease of use, and replace ability. Our system saves time by finding the best route in the management of waste collection.
A refined simple first-order shear deformation theory is developed to investigate the static bending and free vibration of advanced composite plates such as functionally graded plates. By introducing the new distribution shape function, the transverse shear strain and shear stress have a parabolic distribution across the thickness of the plates, and they equal zero at the surfaces of the plates. Hence, the new refined theory needs no shear correction factor. The Navier solution is applied to investigate the static bending and free vibration of simply supported advanced composite plates. The proposed theory shows an improvement in calculating the deflections and frequencies of advanced composite plates. The formulation and transformation of the present theory are as simple as the simple first-order shear deformation. The comparisons of deflection, axial stresses, transverse shear stresses, and frequencies of the plates obtained by the proposed theory with published results of different theories are carried out to show the efficiency and accuracy of the new theory. In addition, some discussions on the influence of various parameters such as the power-law index, the slenderness ratio, and the aspect ratio are carried out, which are useful for the design and testing of advanced composite structures.
This paper presents a finite element formulation to study the mechanical buckling of stiffened functionally graded material (FGM) plates. The approach is based on a third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT) introduced by Guangyu Shi. The material properties of the plate were assumed to be varied in the thickness direction by a power law distribution, but the material of the stiffener was the same as that of the one of the bottom surface where the stiffener was placed. A parametric study was carried out to highlight the effect of material distribution, the thickness-to-width ratio, and stiffener parameters on the buckling characteristics of the stiffened FGM plates. Numerical results showed that the addition of stiffener to the FGM plate could significantly reduce the weight of the FGM plate but that both the FGM plates with and without stiffener had equally high strength in the same boundary condition and compression loading.

This work gives information about the development of refined plate theory to study the static bending behavior of functionally graded material (FGM) plates. The significant advantage of our proposed theory is that only one unknown variable exists in its displacement formula and governing equation. To illustrate the accuracy and effectiveness of this theory, an analytical approach based on the Navier solution is employed to obtain the solution for static bending of simply supported FGM plates. A good agreement for static bending of FGM plates with other literature results has been instituted. This work also investigates the deflection, in-plane normal, and shear stresses of sinusoidally loaded FGM rectangular plates with four simply supported edges. The influence of some parameters on the bending performance of FGM plates is also carefully considered.
A three-layer composite shell with shear connectors is made of three shell layers with one another connected by stubs at the contact surfaces. These layers can have similar or different geometrical and physical properties with the assumption that they always contact and have relative movement in the working process. Due to these characteristics, they are used widely in many engineering applications, such as ship manufacturing and production, aerospace technologies, transportation, and so on. However, there are not many studies on these types of structures. This paper is based on the first-order shear deformation Mindlin plate theory and finite element method (FEM) to establish the oscillator equations of the shell structure under dynamic load. The authors construct the calculation program in the MATLAB environment and verify the accuracy of the established program. Based on this approach, we study the effects of some of the geometrical and physical parameters on the dynamic responses of the shell.
